    Keepin cab sim on in software?

    Gamechanger for sure. After years of carting about heavy amp heads and complicated pedalboards, it feels almost unreal to think that my live "rig" could be scaled down to a Quad Cortex and a Mooer Baby Bomb. 😆 But I'm deffo going to look into that!

      For something like this I would recommend you use a reamp box so the impedance isn’t incorrect going into your head.

    So you are performing with a DAW. That's cool. Do you - by any chance - also pre-record the things you play live as there seems to be no wiggle room for performances?
    I'd also love to know what happens when the DAW crashes and how you guys handle it live. Thanks!

    I very hesitate between 2 differents setup :
    1) The same you use : PC > Interface > Power Amp > Real Cab (optionally : Micing > Mixing Board)
    but in this case you still have to carry a real cab, and transportability is an issue for every band haha (because of course I'd prefer play with a 4x12)
    2) Total Digital : PC (with cab sims/good IR's) > Interface > Mixing Board (optionally : Powered monito onstage as a "cab")
    Here I have no limit ! I can make all my presets and make it sound onstage. do you think a power amp pedal can be useful in this case ?
    Did people tried both solutions with Neural DSP plugins (the most natural vsts on the market) ? Does the 2de option will sound "fake" for the audience ?
    I especially ask because of the new Soldano plugin, If I can use the 2de solution and have the same sound than the 4000$ SLO head or a Kemper, this new world is awesome !
    To give you details, I play a mix between shoegaze and hardcore (Deftones, Nothing, Loathe...)

    • @FortinAmps
      @FortinAmps  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So when I (Mel) toured live this was my setup which was the blend of the two options you're discussing.
      Guitar > Interface > Laptop > Neural DSP > Cab > and Splitting off into an IR.
      I'd give the sound guy an IR option or Micing the Cab.
      9 times of of 10 if i was in a larger venue the sound guy would use the IR and ditch the cab because stage volume wasn't important and guitar sound could be driven with either the wedges on stages or our IEMs.
      In smaller venues the guitar cabs were important because it helped filled up the sound in the room.
      The cabs just lived in the trailer just in case we needed them to be on stage. but after a few times aroudn we got the feel and understanding of what venues needed what setups!

      Also I'm hesiting on the audio interface to buy for this live rig. My points : preamp quality/ noise level / latency / less than 300$. All the recommandations I found are based on recording not on this live setting. Do you have an idea ? :)

      Also, I want to use real pedals that are better in the power amp section (modulations and some disto/preamp), can I plug them AFTER the audio interface and power amp pedal ?

    • @FortinAmps

      Thats probably due to either buffer size issues or your computer not being able to handle that. I usually when playing live turn off the oversampling, and when things crackle i just print the plugin tone in the studio!

    I've got an annoying latency from the moment I hit the note and the result being heard.. It's a very short delay, but still makes it almost impossible to follow along a song. What am I doing wrong?
    I've got the Fortin Cali plugin, with my guitar plugged in a M-Audio Track 2x2, with the sound coming from my desktop speakers.

      Don’t think so. I’m placing the same thing by splitting my signal into 2 where one output goes to front of house mixer (and then into the pa) while the the other output goes to a mixer we have on stage which gives 4 outputs good in ear monitoring

      A PA power amp, baby bomb, or power stage accepts a line-level signal coming out of an interface. If we were plugging back into a traditional guitar amp head then you would be correct about the re-amping device. - Mel

      you're still gonna need a power amp to power your cab.
      the same concept applies. which doesn't make this video null or void
      the automation trick for super-specific effects ie pitch-shifting in time and gating personally preferred doing in a daw. because I could draw, copy, and paste.
      I did a few tour programming MIDI CC changes and I personally preferred automation because it was more precise and reliable IMO. so to each their own.

      The cortex is just a computer with knobs on it. You could buy one if you dont already have a computer. If you have a laptop, you could create the cortex with a $100 audio interface and plugins ranging from free to maybe $150. That vs a couple thousand for the cortex.

  • @nemanjapudar201
    @nemanjapudar201 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    No, for a live performance you better use a plugin host specialized for live performance - such as Gig Performer, rather than a DAW.

    • @MelTorres
      @MelTorres 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have toured the world doing this specific technique a plug-in host is great but if you ever want to record yourself and you have a reliable computer that can sustain it with enough CPU headroom a DAW should be fine and it’s relatively more accessible.
