If there was a 5th Beatle, I would say it`s George Martin, he played on 18 Beatle tracks, his knowledge for music help the Beatles, he know how to talk to other musicians in they`re musical language, and so on.

There is no question that the Beatles would have been less likely to pursue the artistic choices they made as a band without George Martin's directly musical influence.

No doubt about it, as they wouldn’t have sounded nearly like they did or as good as they did in more ways than one. They lucked out when they were chosen by him. Nobody else stands a chance at the title👌

Love you, Lars, and can I just sum it all up by saying ACCURATE!! Quit selling yourself short, it is your land after all!! You are a prime researcher and I, for one, value your opinion!! As an old man (63) and a life long Beatles fan, I find you so refreshing and honest!! THANK YOU!!!

Lars, great video. I agree with all your conclusions. If I had to acknowledge a metaphorical fifth Beatle, it would be the fan who spreads the joy of their music with someone else.
I was a musical snob in 1964, at 14 years old, playing music professionally on weekends and my first impression of “She Loves You” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand” was they’re probably just a cute boy band, and a trivial passing trend. But, I was invited to listening parties, and other musicians engaged me in playing, and singing their gorgeous harmonies. Soon after spending time, listening to their unique spin on music, I became a lifelong fan. So thanks to the Fifth Beatle, the fan, who shares the music with others. You are my Fifth Beatle and I love you.

Great video! Had to "rewind" a few times to process everything. Don't be ashamed of your metaphors. You sound like a true 'dad' coming up with them! And yes, Billy Preston was such a delight to watch on "Get Back!" Quite the tragic life there also, but that's for another video.

With the exception of Murray The K, I don't think anyone was ever called the fifth Beatle by anyone other than a journalist. And the first time any of these peope were called the fifth Beatle was when a journalist introduced them with the words, "He's been called the fifth Beatle..." I honestly don't think the band would have made it if they hadn't had someone like Brian, but it didn't _have_ to be Brian (although there probably would never have been anyone else). The only person deserving of the title in my opinion is George Martin, because I don't think anyone else would have allowed them to develop like he did. He genuinely influenced their output. But then... he was their producer; he wasn't a Beatle. But if we have to pretend there was a fifth Beatle, it was he.

Billy Preston was credited on record: "The Beatles with Billy Preston". He played with the Beatles at their last concert, and John, the 1st Beatle, explicitly called him the 5th Beatle.

Great Video for such a controversial topic. A little bit of underselling Billy Preston (imho if we didn't have a Billy Preston working so closely with the Beatles as a Musical Contributor, we wouldn't get Abbey Road, and maybe The Beatles would even break before Get Back/Let it Be were finished), but good stuff!

As far as I'm concerned.....there area a bunch of "Sixth Beatles". Those would be the people who were inside of the eye of the hurricane,,,,,Neil Aspinall, Mal Evans,, Geoff Emerick, Derek Taylor, Neil Aspinall, Stu Sutcliffe, etc.....but not close enough or musically important overall, I see Brian Epstein as the Beatles father figure (not under consideration for Fifth Beatle.) So.....if there was a Fifth Beatle, I would go with George Martin.
    Great video once again!

A fifth Beatles would probably need to play through an entire song or several, and do a concert and influence a song or 2 and be Billy Preston. And have a couple post Beatles hits. That would be most Beatley to me.

I agree, but I would just like to add that if the Beatles continued into the 70s, the fifth Beatle would most likely be Billy Preston, and throughout the years they would’ve collaborated with many others.. Especially if they toured

    • @larsland
      @larsland  ปีที่แล้ว +2

That would not make him a 5th Beatle, just a collaborator like the other musicians the Beatles have worked with in supergroups.

Without Alan William (The Beatles First Manager) the Beatles would have never gone to Germany (Many Liverpool bands at the time pleaded with Alan not to send that bum group The Beatles to Hamburg many said to Alan if you decide to send them ,you are going to louse it up for the rest of us).Alan Willams decided to send them anyway but they had to find a drummer first (Pete Best). It was on that trip to Hamburg were they Beatles played 8 hours a night on stage and they became a tighter band and they were a force to be reckon with when they returned to England.
    according to Wiki
The Litherland Town Hall Liverpool, England
The Beatles, having just returned from Hamburg, performed in front of a live audience of 1,500 enthusiastic fans at the town hall on 27 December 1960, in what is regarded by some commentators as the birth of Beatlemania.
