I am all for big open world games, but you NEED to fill that world with lots to see, do, and collect. I've played farming sim games since the first A wonderful life came out and what I have learned that really keeps me coming back and enjoying is character customization, lots of good looking marriage candidates, the option to have multiple kids and those kids actually grow older, family can help with chores, being able to dress up and change hairstyles for my family. A great example for all that I previously listed would be "Animal Parade". Another huge thing for me is the ability to customize your entire farm, from moving buildings around, choosing paint, design, and being able to build a fence around your animals so they don't go all over. I also love having pets and horses with stats that can be increased with friendship and training. Having a big open world you can ride your horse around in while your dogs follow is a pretty cool idea.
Any recommendations? The only one I've really sunk some serious time and really liked is statdew valley. I tried out friends of mineral town but the map felt wayyyy too small. Also tried out runefactory 4 but something about the art style just doesn't do it for me.
@@gus051I played Rune Factory 5 recently and it's a fun game. The performance is pretty terrible though. If you can cope with the choppy frames then it's great. I didn't like RF4. Harvestella is pretty cool too. You can demo Harvestella. Story of Seasons Doraemon also has a demo too. No loss that way, if it doesn't gel with you, you lost nothing. I don't think there is much better than Stardew. It might have been inspired by Story of Seasons but it blows SoS out of the water. It's the pupil who beat his master. Roots of Pacha looks pretty good as does My Time at Sandrock but I haven't actually played those 2. If you have a 3DS, Trio of Towns is pretty good.
While I know technically stoty of seasons is the actual "Harvest Moon" franchise i cant lie and say it isnt a little nice seeing the namesake finally pull itself out of a hole somewhat. Is this game perfect? No. But Natsume finally got there shish together to figure out what Harvest Moon was all those years ago.
I love Animal Parade! I really like this game too, the stamina depletion and time moving rapidly could be imported, but other than that I think it's a good game 😁👍👍
It's like they didn't pay attention to the multitudes of farming games that are way more fun with a way lower price that have been releasing over the years.
I picked this up on the ps5 a couple weeks ago and its quite possibly the most addictive farming game I've ever played. Despite the world being mostly empty, its still very pretty and enjoyable to explore. And as a completionist, the large amount of crop mutations, fish, and forage items is so great.
@@linel4540 yeah I'd definitely but right away even a DLC, the story had many things to expand. Since Harvestella I look for something alike but with no luck.
I was waiting for review of this game so long now because I want to see if I want to get the game or not & I’m going to get story of seasons a wonderful life this year due of the worst review so I’m going to give the game a better review instead of a bad review
I don't like at all the art style of harvestella I find it ugly and generic and cheap looking, it looks like 99% of RPG games (Sakuna is fine but nothing special). But I agree that all life sim/farming games are plain ugly (the worst is stardew valley, i don't want to play a game that look like a NES game and has that depressing color palette. I dream of a "farm/life sim" game with an anime/ghibli style art style (a real one, not something cheap and vaguely cell shading, I want a farm/lifie sim game not too realistic in its setting and that makes me feel IN a anime and with colorful, vibrant colors and a vibrant universe. Every farming game looks like a Dreamcast or SNES game with generic art style and no real identity.
So it has the same issue as fire emblem engage... when you make all candidates date-able you end up getting the same dialog no matter the gender you pick which leads to a very boring experience.
Yeah I have heard that about stardew valley, and they should just at least try and have different dialog cause I used to like doing a second run in a game just to see the little differences :D @@TeddieSage1987
Interesting characters and a living town are what's most important to me in life sim games, so I'm gonna give this one a pass based on the "generic dialogue" comments.
Both Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons now just look and feel very generic and don't seem to make any improvements or innovate in any way. Rune Factory is also falling along that path. Harvestella was a great addition to the genre.
I’ve actually really enjoyed the story of seasons remakes. I already loved a wonderful life and the remake made it soooo much much better especially made the farming fun unlike in the original it was so poorly done. I really hope they continue with magical melody. It seems like Sos has so much more charm and extra little secrets you can find. Going back to a wonderful life. There is so much to do it’s hard to get bored. I’m about to play this game but worried with the slow start I’m going to get bored right off the bat
Why must every harvest moon game look so terrible. It's like they got to the ps2 era and decided to stop there forever. And why did they completely rip off the BOTW UI. So lazy
I was gonna get it for my Switch, being my first Harvest Moon but I’ve read many negative reviews. What Story of seasons would you recommend? I just want a nice farming sim.
@nostrilcake well, dear, actually none of the new story of season I recommend which means ( All the new harvest moon & harvestella is not recommended at all) I even played story of season pioneer of olive town.. it's good, but not the best as I ranked it ( D) just play the old ones those since 2005, like Harvest Moon's wonderful life and harvest moon "save the homland"..etc because what I observe now is cute or ugly characters and nonsense stories 👎 that made me really disappointed !!! but I highly recommend which is my favorite !!!! story of season 3ds released on 2015 ( my profile pic is character from that game), and to be honest, I really enjoy Rune factory 5 ( although there are some minor issues that should be fixed) and I enjoy Rune factory 4 a lot 😄 finally, I loved doreamon story of the season, such a peaceful life ! 🦋 there are 2 versions of this game .. I bought the first one as the watercolor texture attracted my attention 😊
They prove over and over that they just don’t care about this franchise - and haven’t for a long time. I will never buy a harvest moon game again. There’s no reason to when one-man indie devs make much better and more polished farming games now.
I wouldn't write off Winds of Anthos just yet, I'm personally having a lot of fun with the game, and there's more to world exploration than what this review covers. There's a bit of pokemon like qualities to WoA and that makes sense since the developers, Appci, worked on certain aspects of the modern pokemon games. While exploring the world you'll come across out of the way areas with a lot of resources, secret fishing holes that net a LOT of money, Power Wisps that behave like Koroks and give you Power Berries that can expand your stamina or bag when you take them to the harvest goddess spring (a lot of them can also only be collected during certain seasons) Rare animals to tame, and more. The world might look empty at first but the point is to explore and find things along the way. The farming aspect is also very solid, there are a LOT of different crops, some of them being fantastical mutations like snowmen and jack o lanterns. The Doc Pad you start the game with can warp you to any goddess statue you activate in the world, as well as allowing you to look for specific things you've discovered previously so you aren't wandering aimlessly looking for that one Harvest Wisp. Each town has a cultural level and as it grows the town changes and becomes more lively! There's so much to this one and I really think you should give it a try! I've been addicted to this game!

Looks like harvest moon is back on the menu, boys!
let's go farming!
Uh, no?
Unfortunately I’m not a boy.
I’m a female.
no one asked? It's literally just a quote from an orc in the LOTR movies turned meme.@@Designer239

I'm a bit baffled why "you live here and villagers know you" would confuse anyone?
Oh this looks pretty decent actually, might pick it up
yea, hoping this evolution continues
Thanks for this review!
Am glad I ordered the PlayStation version.
It's like they didn't pay attention to the multitudes of farming games that are way more fun with a way lower price that have been releasing over the years.
The price is what gets me
It’s like you didn’t pay attention that this game is actually decent.

Tnks for the nice review ❤
Thanks for hanging out :)
I’m still iffy on this one but man, I really want a good quality farm sim.
i know what you mean, just something to relax with.
I know what you mean :( I was so exicted for fae farm and it was a huge let down . So came here to see if this was better. Apparently not lol.
Try Sun Haven or Fae Farm
I think I'll stick with a second run in Harvestella. Ny only console is the switch, so seeing that low performance is kinda bad
I love Harvestella, it’s a great game. Hope they would have a sequel but I don’t think it will happen.
@@linel4540 yeah I'd definitely but right away even a DLC, the story had many things to expand. Since Harvestella I look for something alike but with no luck.
would you do Fea Farm?

Great review, I'm going to buy this for the nintendo switch. It really looks great.
Good for Natsume. The last few games looked like flash games, looking forward to future improvements. Thanks for sharing your review
Shit looks like Pokémon but it doesn’t crash or have Pokémon falling through floors😂.
Careful there, dude. You're projecting so much that you're lighting up the whole room.
Haha these dev teams should work together :)
How I wish Project Zero games were pumped out as often.
Haha that would be nice
I stopped playing Harvest Moon when Natsume and Marvelous split. I stick to Story of Seasons.
To me all farming games look ugly and cheap when you compare them to Sakuna, Spiritfarer or Harvestella. Those games also have great music

I’m about to be 70 hours in, I am completely hooked! 😊
Thanks a lot I’m about to buy a steam deck in a few months, think I’ll wait because right now I have a switch
The best one is magical melody
If you sell enough of a crop you can buy seeds
So it has the same issue as fire emblem engage... when you make all candidates date-able you end up getting the same dialog no matter the gender you pick which leads to a very boring experience.
They just need to hire better writers that don't treat their whole fanbase like kids. That's why I love Stardew Valley.

Harvestella sucks wth you talking bout 😂
I like winds of anthos 🥹🥹
Thanks harvestmoon, it's different with Story of season
My husband thinks I will love this but the last review I saw he made it seem slow and boring. It seems like they are 10-15 yrs behind other games.
Nah Marvelous has only shown grass from the next Story of Seasons game and it looks better than anything Natsume has made since the split 💀
Why must every harvest moon game look so terrible. It's like they got to the ps2 era and decided to stop there forever.

Can I marry Doc Jr?
Good video.
They should've never split with marvelous. Story of Seasons is way better. 😢
I hate the story of season games they don't have a lot of openness and very small maps
Completely disagree.
You are very negative . I think this is finally a decent game made by HM. It slow start but gets better as you go.
I rather enjoy the game
It's not as strong as the old ones ..👎

So they basically thought what if we took a plotline from Attack on Titan and make it the setup? Not the interesting part.
I'll stick with Story of Seasons, that franchise is basically Harvest Moon in all but name...literally
hah, the history of this series still fascinates me.
This game looks terrible.

you make a good point
And also the OG developers of Harvest Moon have kept it growing under a different branch of the tree, as Story of Seasons
