  • Check out Tim's side of the story! • World Record Given Awa...
    This is a story I've wanted to share for the past six years. Witnessing this spearfishing world record goes down as one of my most memorable days diving ever. In this video I share my thoughts on why this was such a monumental fish for me, even though I didn't spear it myself. I did manage of a few nice fish of my own this day including a personal best red emperor. Red emperor are Lutjanus sabae, the same family as the red snapper that get taken on the west coast of the USA.

      Tim is a legend. When I was young my father let me shoot a large whitetail deer, bigger than any he had harvested. On that day, my father was the hunter and I just the weapon he chose to use.
      Tim was the hunter who let his protege Hal seal the deal, giving great fulfillment to both men and creating Tim’s legacy.

    Tim was way classy letting Hal shoot it. Watched the exchange between Tim and Hal again and couldn’t find the part where Hal “asked Tim if he could have a crack at it” as Dan puts it at 4:46. All I saw was Hal bulldozing his way into shooting it. Birthday or not, that’s absolute trash behavior. Otherwise, an absolutely incredible video.

    Tim is a great man and really handled it all like a true sportsman & legend! Tim did the homework & even found/saw the fish too. Hal was a dickhead for forcing his way into taking it... Tim even said that the fish would wait for him to shoot, but Hal kept shouting that he would shoot it. That's the difference between a legend and a spoiled boy. fishing for your own food is actually better in a way as it decreases demand in fish so fishermen who kills thousands of fishes per day to feed buyers will have to fish less if more people started to fish for their own food. And thus concluding that this fishing for your own food is actually saving the ecosystem.

    When I see a fish of size like this I begin to wonder how old they are. The last big bass I had must have been about 20 yrs or more. Shame they don’t grow as fast as my 13 yr old son. We’d all be bagging whoppers. Feelings for fish ? I must be getting old I sometimes find myself filming them and they don’t swim away 😁 so I givem 5 mins or so to decide wether they want to come back to my place to see my kitchen 🐟👹 well done mate 👍👍always a pleasure to watch your vids

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I talked to a marine biologist about this fish. Due to its usual size and location it was probably a young male. The females don’t grow as fast or big as they spend too much energy spawning instead of growing. This guy was focused on nothing but eating and getting hence. Could have been as young as 15 years.
