If I only do some email, basic work, and watching TH-cam, Netflix on spare time. Do you think I should go for cheaper M1 air with upgrade RAM, not sure it last me a long time before upgrade to new MacBook though.
Hey man, it's completely unrelated to this particular video, but I'm planning to buy an 11 inch iPad Pro. Will you be going to update your battery drain test with the new M2 iPad Pro? I would be curious to see the difference between the 3rd and 4th gen, especially since I'm worried the new Apple Pencil Hover feature could drain battery. Thanks!!
Im happy with my m1 MacBook Air and it has been amazing, 256 is enough for me as I store most of my larger files on my 1tb ssd, I took it for a 3 day vacation and I did not have to charge it even once even with photo edits, exports and imports and watching movies👍
Finally an honest discussion!!! I'm starting uni in September to study photography and honestly it can be overwhelming knowing whether to go for the best of the best or to go reasonable - I think future proofing is important but ultimately everyone has a budget!
You do not need anything close to a top of the line computer. You barely even need an M1 Air. do you think that professional photographers used to just labor and suffer all day with useless computers until the newest MacBooks came out? Future proofing is bullshit don’t do it it’s not gonna help you at all and you’re just gonna end up wasting money for a machine that you don’t need that is probably gonna be replaced in 5 to 7 years at the most anyway if you do actually use it for anything more than just editing photos If you’re really that concerned about “future proofing”, get a 16” M1 Pro in case configuration
I picked up an awesome deal on a m1 air with 16gb ram and 1TB drive for $1154, already have the m1 mini, but that deal was too good to pass on, love it. Thanks for the great advice
I see a lot of recommendations to avoid the 8GB version. I've been using an 8GB air since they came out with zero issues. The performance is always snappy. This laptop gets used for browsing, netflix, light gaming, and light audio production. If you are on a budget, and don't use any applications that are memory intensive, don't be afraid of the 8GB M1/M2 Air.
@@TechGearTalk When Apple drops the M1 Air as a target for the newest OS, the 8, 16, and 24GB models will all be dropped indiscriminately. If the money isn't an issue, and you want to future proof as much as possible, by all means get the 16+GB model. We've reached a point of tech maturity where software isn't requiring the dramatic increases in memory that is used to. There was a youtuber that tested (using a VM) the minimum memory that Monterey required to boot, and it was well under 1GB. With 2GB, it was pretty usable. Ironically, it's my 16" i9 32GB Macbook Pro that I bought in 2019 that's fallen into disuse. It was intended to be my powerhouse laptop, but overheats and throttles almost immediately if I'm running a Window VM and using a 4k monitor at the same time. That was supposed to be my long-term mac but buying all that CPU and memory was a waste. It's been replaced by a work-supplied 14" M1 Pro
Which games do you play? I am thinking about buying m2 macbook air which is gonna be my first macbook and I can’t decide between m2 pro and m2 air. Can I play games like heartstone or tft in macbook air does it overheat?
@@cloggaming2254 There is no shortage of evidence on the internet that PLENTY of people (including me) have heat/throttlling issues with the 16". They did nothing to improve the thermal issues when they upgraded the 15" to 16"
Well , I do have a MB air m1 8gb , sometimes using too many Internet tabs it gets pretty slow. I do not use any kind of heavy programs, only internet browsing, pdfs, telegram, stuff like that, and yes , if you have too many things opened it will lag. Fun fact is that I have a feeling that my old Asus i5 16gb could handle more tabs opened and that it was a little bit faster handling that
This has been really helpful. I've been vacillating between the M2 MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro 14. The base M2 Air is perfect for my travel needs (I have plenty of power and storage in my desktop Mac). But that Pro is so tempting, especially when it's on sale and is close to the cost of a spec'd up M2 Air. However, I wouldn't be taking advantage of the Pro's power, additional ports, beautiful screen, or other features often enough to justify it. My solution (subject to change without notice): a refurbished M1 MacBook Air.
I made the mistake of getting the 14 inch m1 macbook pro. I thought the size will be perfect as i have used 14 inch laptops before without any problems. But now i m having neck and eye problems due to long hours of work and study. I would suggest everyone, if you don't travel with your laptop get a 16 inch as the size is really helpful. Now i m planning to get a monitor to solve this issue.
I attach my M1 Air to an external monitor when I use it at my home desk. Really helps with the neck strain. I had an older 1080p 23 inch kicking around and it has been perfect :-)
Back in 2013 I bought a Macbook Pro 15 and overpaid by "specing" it out. It has a 2K display, 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD, and a dedicated GPU. Almost 10 years later the thing is till relevant for today. It runs the latest Mac OS, boots up in seconds, and is very responsive. 10 years is a long time so I did end up replacing my battery myself twice, but it runs smooth and I just don't need to upgrade as I have a desktop gaming PC for power use and my MacBook Pro for web browsing and watching videos.
One mistake a lot of people ignore. Buying a new computer when your old one works fine. I have a 2012 Macbook Pro with a 1TB SSD and 16 GB ram. It still works fine. I couple of years ago I replaced the keyboard and battery foraround $150. I have a 2009 Macbook Pro with a 2TB SSD. And I have a super cheap PC. I don't really need the high powered stuff for making high tech videos. I make videos with powerpoint slides, which don't require a lot of computing power. Yes, my old computers one day will fail, but in the meantime, they work fine enough for my needs. Yes, you don't get upgrades after a while, but again, the old versions work fine for me.
I bought the MBA M1 a year and a half ago, and it works great! The one issue I have, is the fact that it only has the two USB-C ports. I have a hub to give me more ports, because I’m getting my first external display. However, I do wish I didn’t have to have the hub. I bought the MBA because I’m a beginning content creator. But, I made the mistake of going high on storage (1TB) and low on RAM (8GB). I’m going to continue to use the MBA because it works great for my needs right now, but I can tell eventually I’m going to outgrow it.
Excellent advice. I reviewed my actual use case and ended up getting a refurbished 16/256 Mac mini to work with my studio nano display and an older Dell 27 in 4K. This is because I have a 2 TB iCloud account that I share with my family and mostly work in my study. I supplement this with my early 2015 MBP which is still superb for day to day use. My work then bought me a 16/512 MBP M1 which I keep there now so saves my backpack weight. Old good stuff still works well. Of course, the 2015 MBP will not take the next MacOS but it will still work with Windows via parallels and bootcamp. I also upgraded the SSD to 1 TB for about $130. It was probably the best ever MBP on build quality and ports etc. I didn’t have any screen delaminating issues as I think that was just a bad batch. My daughter still eyes it up for the ‘when you don’t need it dad can I have it’ time.
I'm using the MacBook Air m1 for about almost 2 months and it works great. I got the base model and I have zero issues. I can get a full day with the battery so the is great in my opinion.
Just upgraded from the iPad 8th gen to the iPad Pro 11 inch 3 rd gen. It’s a massive improvement. Never owned a laptop of any make. Need it to run DAWs to record and arrange hardware synths and bass guitar. Also a little bit of gaming , but it’s mainly for electronic music production. I have around £1800 and I’m really cautious of ordering the wrong one. Going for the 512gb and definitely going into a shop to have a look and feel of them. Think I might sell the iPad Pro on. Thanks for your advice and video. Just wish I knew which one to definitely get. I’m disabled so can’t work or get out much. It’s going to be used all day . I’m so impressed with the IPads . Used PCs a little but not a computer person.
Buy something for yourself and buy it because you want it. Too many situations where people hold back on fancy stuff because they don't "need" it. These machines are getting ridiculously efficient and 99% of people won't NEED one. If you want a top of the line device to watch TH-cam on and type up documents, THAT'S OKAY. Don't hold back on something you initially wanted because someone else told you that you didn't need it. Also, don't get yourself into the mindset that BECAUSE you buy a top of the line device, all of the sudden, you WILL use it to its fullest capabilities. Buy something because that's what YOU want. It doesn't matter if you don't use it at 100% - most people are in the same boat. Wanting something and buying it because you want it is OKAY. On a side note, Apple's storage and RAM pricing is disgusting. Get yourself an external drive for a fraction of the cost. As for RAM, I guess you're screwed.
exactly. I am so fucking sick of people who don't understand technology asking me "why do you need more storage? why do you need more ram?" There are so many people who just don't get it. The reason the prices are the way they are is because the people who run Apple art communist scum of the earth.
For a simple task like browsing a web and a normal user like me who don’t open 92 apps at one time.. 8gb is enough. I’m a new sub. You have amazing content. Cheers!
I got a M1 MacBook Air with 16GB of Ram and 256GB of storage. I rarely store files on my Mac so I take advantage of cloud services. Thought about upgrading to a MacBook Pro but I don’t think I would need it now. The Air will last me for years.
I've been thinking of getting the 14-in pro base model. Been planning to transition to a WFH setup and go freelance. I think for the anticipated workload, it should be more than sufficient.
I’d go with the new MBP 16 despite the extra weight. If you were working on client sites or with other people the larger screen gives much greater productivity. I kept my MBP16 i9 for that reason and the fact I can still use bootcamp for pro applications in Windows like MS Project and Visio professional. I was tempted by the new MBP16 but I only got my i9 in 2020 and it’s still got 7 months guarantee left from the seller. For WFH get an M1 Mac mini 16/256 refurbished and then a high quality 4 or 5k 27 in screen. Your eyes and back will both thank you downstream.
@@andrewcrossley2448 this would be perfect, however we have blackouts where I'm from and I need a 'workstation' I can up and go. Also, I prefer switching up my environment once in a while. But yeah, good points! I can prolly get a dock to use the macbook as a desk setup, like some TH-camrs Ive seen.
I am thinking about it too (14 Pro). One reason is that it has an SD-card slot that I do not need. So I can put an SD-card there and use as extra storage for files, when 512GB is not enough for me in a few years. There are special SD-cards manufactured for the purpose - fitting exactly in a MacBook Pro. I currently type this on a 2014 MacBook Air with just 128GB SSD, but I use a 256GB (minimal size) USB-key next to the MagSafe to effectively have room for all files I need.
I just got a brand new MacBook Pro base model M1 16 for a mind blowing 700 off the retail price at Best Buy. I had the base 16 M2 and took it back. I love the 16 and I travel with it all the time.
Also keep in mind that you don’t necessarily need the newest Mac. You can get some great deals on Macs that are not “officially support” and make them work. Even something as old as a 2012 Mac can run Monterey just fine with pretty much everything supported. This is especially true as Apple transitions to Apple silicon. Every update to Mac OS that doesn’t offer official support for Intel Macs means businesses offloading thousands of macs to resellers. A base model 2013 iMac can render an 8 minute, 1080p video in about 4 minutes. It can render that same video in 4K in about 13 minutes. That’s perfectly fine
Dude I use a base m1 MacBook Air all day everyday. Like 20 tabs all video and never had a slowdown. I feel like the base m1 MacBook Air is solid for 90% of people in need of a new laptop. Worst case, spend an extra $400 and go from 8/256 to 16/512 But again, Base has never gone slow for me in two years. 8gb ram on apple is like 16gb on Intel/AMD think of it like that. It’s also very fast ram..
Thanks, I just ordered my M1 Max Chip with 10-Core CPU, 32-Core GPU, and 16-Core Neural Engine. 64GB RAM Unified Memory 4TB SSD Storage 16-Inch Three Thunderbolt, 4 ports, HDMI ports, SDXC Card slot, MagSafe 3 port 140W USB - C Power Adaptor Liquid Retina XDR display Hopefully this will be good for my video editing as I am gonna start my TH-cam channel. 🤞
I’m glad you’re making these Videos. I recently bought a 16” M1Pro with 32Gig Ram. I’m a Developer/Student and initially thought of buying the Base 16” M1Pro. I can’t say how happy I am when I bought my Computer with 1TB SSD and 32Gig RAM since you can’t upgrade any of those. Also I travel everyday but still prefer the 16 Inch because of the Screen Real estate. Edit- Could you please make a video on some Note Taking Tricks and tips on the new iPad Air/Pro. Cheers!
Wow that’s a very expensive tool to take into college but if it works, great. Note taking - if you need to share notes and use on multiple platforms OneNote is excellent. If you are sticking to an Apple ecosystem then Apple Notes is brilliant and has lots of great features that are not obvious. I use both. OneNote for my work as a university lecturer but Apple for everything else. I love the ability to make notes on my iPad, iPhone and Mac and instantly be able to see them on all my devices via my iCloud account. I also share these with my family members where relevant.
2:00 - Docker Desktop for macOS uses a CRAP ton of RAM, so if you're a software developer who uses Docker you should keep that in mind. Get an M1 Pro or Max, that comes with 16GB for the base models, or at least fork out the exta $400 to upgrade to 16GB or 32GB.
I will have enough money this Friday to get my first MacBook. I’m getting the M1Air with 512GB SSD and 8GB unified memory. I’m just using it for office stuff as well as personal finance.
I got my daughter a Macbook Air with 16/512 bought her a 2Tb external NVMA SSD and a 3Tb external hard drive for time machine. So far she hasn’t used either of the external drives and we just back the iMac Air to iCloud.
That's all good, but Apple's pricing strategy really makes all those considerations very difficult. Especially thinking about storage size, as they absolutely fleece you if you want more than the minimum for your config. Similar story for RAM: 16 gigs for apps + graphics + neural engine is too little and the fact that the base model is 8 gig only is ludicrous, they're sabotaging costly machines on purpose. As usual, Apple is actually forcing people down the product stack to sell more laptops and more accessories. I shouldn't need to spend the equivalent of two base models to get a slightly upgraded model with the features I need.
Yeah I'm sure everyone would get more storage and ram if it didn't cost as much. People don't make mistakes, they just don't want to pay the difference
You are gem of a person, i was looking for a laptop for my university needs and started from 12th intel to macbook 14(M1) and after watching your video i have realised that i should pick macbook air m1, which is most bang for the buck as per my needs, i was tempting towards 14 pro M1 but i have just decided that’s all wastage of money even if i can afford, i would get a 16 gb ram upgrade which i thinks is worth for a person buying his first and probably last laptop because & as far as storage is concerned i can see 256 gb is more than enough for my needs but i still have external ssd option available at all the time, how my decision? Thanks a lot you have saved my 1000 dollars
Great info! I have been known to get a new MacBook when it reaches the point of being incapable taking of MACOS upgrades. I’m getting close and I am starting to question if I would be better with a desktop! Truth is my ipad handles most of my on the go needs anymore. And I don’t really go that much either. Seems like I can get more/as much from a Mac mini.
Buy it nice, or buy it twice. Didn’t buy it nice today so have to go and buy it again tomorrow. Didn’t do my homework properly. Luckily it’s a small thing. Thanks for the advice 😊
This was really informative thanks! Ive actually been really conflicted in getting a refurbished 2020 macbook pro vs getting the new m1 macbook air for music production. With 16gb of memory they both cost about the same. Any suggestions? I spoke to someone at the store but tbh they werent very confident in advising me. Thanks!
This really helped a lot, so my situation is that I'm a Medical Student and Produce Music so for me Traveling and Portability is a must, I need a device that's efficient enough for me to last 5-6 years and also has that much power which can handle music production softwares, so I'm kinda stuck between the M1 MacBook Pro 13 Inch and M1 Pro MacBook Pro 14 inch so I need help in that also my budget is enough for MBP M1 13, But I'm afraid since it came in 2020 in a few years it will slow down, please guide me regarding this
Mine was buying 14 inch Macbook Pro instead of the larger 16 inch and need bigger screen. Macbook Pro 16 inch with 16GB and 1TB SSD is great. My last MBP only had 256GB hard drive that ran out quickly after a few years. Really need at least 16GB RAM memory and 1TB hard SSD drive minimum.
1:18 I have 80 tabs open, and 4-5 other apps open. 8GB has been working extremely smooth for me on my M1 MacBook Pro. But I'm sure if I start editing right now, this thing's fans are gonna turn on😂 Also if I were still using an Intel MacBook, fans would have already turned on😂 3:30 I had to choose between an M1 MacBook Air and Pro, and I went for the Pro because 1) I needed a laptop that I could use for a long time without it lowering down it's performance, so I got the one with the fan, and this was in my budget, 2) I genuinely love the touchbar, helps me get work done like video editing more conveniently because of the available shortcuts. It's also easy to access things like emojis, which require that 3 key shortcut generally, and disappear after adding one emoji. Still don't know why people don't like the touchbar. In. my opinion, Apple should offer touchbar to all Pros, but optional, like it used to be back in 2016 when the touchbar was introduced for the first time
I got the M2 base MacBook for 999 last week. I really only need it for word crunching, mails, media and other basic tasks. I genuinely think for my specific use case spending an extra 200 on ram and 200 on storage just did not make sense. Similarly adding further 100 to buy an M1 Pro MacBook also did not seem worth it. like its an added 600 bucks for a extra power I'm just not going to need or use. (I upgraded from an iPad Pro 2018 12.9 inch). The battery life is amazing, but I really do miss having a high refresh rate screen.
after watching another one of your "buying mistakes" video, i kinda see a similar pattern or a template tailored to the topic... like "don't get caught up stuck om certain specs... marketing ninjas capitalize on that..."
In my case, It was. What happened was, after just a year of using it, my workload increased and I was shooting way past what the base model (my initial choice) had to offer. So “doubling “ worked out. My wife though, she couldn’t use more than 8GB RAM if her life depended on it haha so Air base model has been a solid investment
@@DannyMexen9 really interested in the difference in work loads (aka what apps and work intensity) you and your wife out your laptops under. Since I’m on the fence to upgrade to more RAM or just stay at base MBA. I’ll be doing lots of research (many tabs), making TH-cam videos, making intricate tutorial documents with photos and text, and the usual Office 365 and OneDrive use. Also I backup everything to my iCloud.
Hey man. Which one do you suggest: Macbook pro 13 m1 or macbook air m1 or macbook air m2. It's really an enigma for me that which one is good. (i'm a programmer and I use my mac for programming).
Literally silly me 😂 i got the macbook pro 15’ 2019 for 2k6$ retail with i9, 16gb ram, 512gb (pretty decent back in the day). And I ended up not using it that much till now 😭
I’m trying to decide between air m2 and pro 14”. Which do you recommend? Also how much is if worth it to buy the storage on the computer vs paying for cloud storage?
If you have more money, please buy 14inch m1 pro model, no cap Tho the software is the same , for sure yeah MacOs ,but the hardware makes the differents, you got and quicker SSD, faster cpu gpu , faster ram, monitor refreash rate up to 120hz (apple called it ProMotion) with good damn mini-led ETCETERA.... no way you should choose the 14 inch macbook pro!
Average user : for the next century, buy the 2020 Macbook Air M1. As for the RAM, the machine will die before you need more than 8gigs so for me, 16 is just meant to spend more money..
Thank you for sharing this practical advices. My checklist was almost the same and very well summarized. Do you have any advice for hubs? I am still struggling with it. BTW, wanna say thanks to you for practical advices. It helped me in purchasing Macbook Air M2 with 16GB & 256GB configurations. Thank you hug from Germany 😂
This was another excellent video and, I agree with your comments 100 percent. While, I really do not have a need for a laptop computer. If, I was buying today it would be either a used 13-inch M-1, MacBook Pro with 16GB or ordering on the Apple Veteran web site a new 13-inch M-2, MacBook Pro with 24GB (smile…smile).
If I want to be an interior designer, but I am only starting my first year of study (and there will be 5 of them in the final result) and we will use Autocad, Photoshop..( sure the others programs too).. which MacBook is better to choose? Because I am not sure to buy MacBook Air 13 M1 or MacBook Pro 14 M2?
I'm thinking of getting my first Macbook as a life long PC user, though I'm not sure which one to use, when you wanna do some light gaming while you're away from home. Is the 8GB RAM version good enough or do you need the 16GB?
I would go with 16 Gb of RAM. What you buy is what you get as there is no way to upgrade RAM or storage on any modern Mac computer (except Mac Pro) after purchase.
Hi! I would like to ask for your recommendation. I want to buy a Macbook Air since I mainly use it for social media and work, which I’m a translator so it’s mostly writing a lot of documents. My brother offered me his 8GB M1 MacBook Air for $650 since he mostly uses his other work computer. It’s in great condition. Should I buy the M1 Air, or should I buy a new M2 Air for almost double the amount? Thank you all for your recommendations!
I’ve been debating if I should buy a MacBook. It will work with my iPad and iPhone. I’ve been looking into the 14 inch one but my god is it expensive and so the M2 is also looking like a great deal but the 256 GB is meh for $1.1k Laptop I also want a better screen but again it’s expensive, I love music so speakers are a big win for me the M2 isn’t bad but obviously the 14 is better, more power is obviously nice but I am not sure if I will ever use it. I don’t really want a windows laptop but one thing that really is an advantage is that I can upgrade them or at least some of them.
I've been out of the graphic design game for quite some time. I've been teaching English abroad in Italy for the last 8 years but now feel like picking graphic design back up. I'm a bit out of touch and will have to do a bit of catch up and upskilling.. I'll be using a lot of illustrator, indesign, photoshop etc. Would a M2 Macbook air be up to the task? Open to recommendations 👍
Hi! I needed a suggestion! If you have got the time and notice this please help out. Would you recommend buying the Mackbook Air M1 13 inch or MacBook Pro M1 13inch. I do some mediocre Photo and Video Editing also some other Browsing and Research works. Little confused with which to get since I’m on a budget. Thanks in advance 😊
what do you think of a 2019 MacBook Pro 16 inch ? student perspective. I don't travel a lot. i have an older iMac and an older MacBook Pro. 2012 n 2015. time to upgrade maybe.
Bought a used 2015 15" MBP (Configure To Order). Upgraded the SSD to 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus. All is great for this machine just that after upgrading to OS Monterey, boot up need 4min 30sec. Once boot up everything runs great and smooth. Anyone encountered similar issue like me? Pls share how you fix the issue. Cheers
Is it wise to only buy my new mac from Apple or is Costco a good choice as well? Also, while I do not do any video editing I do download art videos and watch those often for a few hours or longer at a time. Would the MacBook pro be the better choice given it has a fan for cooling with these long videos? I currently have a 2014 MacBook pro that has sufficed just fine. I can no longer do updates on it but it is still working but I obviously will need to upgrade in the near future. Should I decide to get the MacBook pro, does it pay to wait until 2023 for the newest one to come out? I'm concerned if I get the MacBook air, it will not handle the long videos that I watch for art classes but maybe it would be fine. Any advice is welcome and thank you for the videos!
For those people planning to buy a macbook If you have a tight budget, go for 512Gb storage with 8Gb unified memory or 256Gb storage with 16Gb Ram. NEVER EVER WITH 256Gb storage with 8Gb memory. Apple uses swap memory - it uses a portion of the internal storage as a temporary ram, if the ram is only 8gb and the storage is low the ssd will fail faster blah blah blah…and you can no longer use it. Just search it up here in youtube. M1 Swap memomry.
If they just put the same ports and MagSafe on the mbp m2 as the 14 inch it would be an easy decision But of course these three ports are worth an additional 500+

I agree that for now, 8GB can work. My concern would be long term - where the m1 would still be plenty good an the ram may become insufficient.
My solution (subject to change without notice): a refurbished M1 MacBook Air.
good choice.
I love seeing your process! Thank you for sharing!
Yuym😂I😂
I made the mistake of getting the 14 inch m1 macbook pro.
TGT...this has to be one of the most comprehensive videos to assist future Mac buyers to determine what's best for them. Well done!
So glad it was helpful, Rob. Thank you for the feedback and for being part of the channel 🙏🏻
Always buy according to your needs and budget, and as you always say (buy nice , don't buy twice)
Thank you for the input!
Discovered your channel the other day. Your advice guided me on my purchase of my first brand new MacBook to replace my 2011 MacBook Pro.
That's why I went with the M1 Pro 14-inch. Slightly larger display, more ports, and base model comes with 16GB RAM
Thank you for sharing!
I'm the user who waited 10 years... I bought the best unibody Macbook Pro of 2012, and now I am waiting for my M1 Max
I've been thinking of getting the 14-in pro base model. Been planning to transition to a WFH setup and go freelance. I think for the anticipated workload, it should be more than sufficient.
It's a wonderful - and extremely capable machine.
@@gunnarthorburn1219 where can I buy those? What are the read/write speeds?
Regarding storage: USB drives and USB thumb drives are always an option. If there's a slot for an SD card then an SD card is another option.
I just got a brand new MacBook Pro base model M1 16 for a mind blowing 700 off the retail price at Best Buy. I had the base 16 M2 and took it back. I love the 16 and I travel with it all the time.
I just got the 14 and love it. I use mine mainly for photos/ browsing, so putting things on a drive isn’t a big deal for me
Also keep in mind that you don’t necessarily need the newest Mac.
Solid points, David!
Dude I use a base m1 MacBook Air all day everyday. Like 20 tabs all video and never had a slowdown.
I feel like the base m1 MacBook Air is solid for 90% of people in need of a new laptop. Worst case, spend an extra $400 and go from 8/256 to 16/512
But again, Base has never gone slow for me in two years. 8gb ram on apple is like 16gb on Intel/AMD think of it like that.
It’s also very fast ram..
No doubt that it's a fantastic MacBook.
Very good and smart who speak just really right and honest things. Good
After reviewing the video and the comments then it's more than enough to make your mind which a specific MAC for you

Excellent video. You've affirmed my buying choice. Thank you.
Reading these comments and watching this it looks like I scored big with that 2 day $800 sale on the base MacBook Air m1 last week 💪🏻
Congrats!!! You got a great deal!!!
I just bought a MacBook Pro 14inch m1 it’s a beast of a computer .i love it a lot
Such an amazing MacBook. Congrats!
Glad you enjoyed it. If your iPad takes care of your on-the-go needs - the Mini is an awesome value!

But I'm sure if I start editing right now, this thing's fans are gonna turn on😂 Also if I were still using an Intel MacBook, fans would have already turned on😂
3:30 I had to choose between an M1 MacBook Air and Pro, and I went for the Pro because 1) I needed a laptop that I could use for a long time without it lowering down it's performance, so I got the one with the fan, and this was in my budget, 2) I genuinely love the touchbar, helps me get work done like video editing more conveniently because of the available shortcuts.

Someone once said to me, “what config you looking at?”
I mentioned it and they said, “double it.”
Was it the right choice?
In my case, It was. What happened was, after just a year of using it, my workload increased and I was shooting way past what the base model (my initial choice) had to offer. So “doubling “ worked out. My wife though, she couldn’t use more than 8GB RAM if her life depended on it haha so Air base model has been a solid investment

I think you're hitting on some good points - ultimately it's a big investment so it needs to satisfy as many needs/wants as possible.
Are the Intel chipped mac's upgradeable in terms of RAM?

For those people planning to buy a macbook
If you have a tight budget, go for 512Gb storage with 8Gb unified memory or 256Gb storage with 16Gb Ram.
If they just put the same ports and MagSafe on the mbp m2 as the 14 inch it would be an easy decision
But of course these three ports are worth an additional 500+
Loved it
