I have a shed just like this under a mulberry tree, and we just go some chicks. Going to turn it in to a coop. It will be under the tree during the summer and they get to eat mulberries in the spring! Its a win win.
Just keep one side open. I build one side with hardware cloth for more air. It was perfect but also needed to be a permanent location. Tractors were also implemented.
Good morning Roman amazing check out that shed and the big Tom Turkey and his girls... Awsome nesting boxes.. Big thumbs up another great video thank you my friend
Haha. Danzig rocks. He’s a good boy. All my Toms are cool but they just can’t be together. I tried to put my Legbar rooster with Danzig and the hens but he was beat up the next morning. We had to change them all back. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Lol
This is amazing for my situation, I have a shed that looks identical to yours, and it got hit by a tree limb....so I'm turning it into a chicken coop I've always wanted! Sweet video thanks for the information!
I bought that exact same shed to make into a coop. My husband got it done yesterday. He put it together in our polebarn, so level surface and no wind so only 1 or 2 screws didnt fit right, lol. I was looking for ideas on how to retrofit for chickens, now that it's built. Did you have to cut and place vents in? Would love to see updated video or coop tour. I think MANY people will be looking for this due to price of wood!!!!
Hi and thank you for watching. I took one door off and made a frame with wood from our forest. Put the side posts in the ground adjacent to the shed. I then stapled hardware cloth to it. Vents would be a great idea too as the condensation was bad at first. Don’t forget to anchor it down. These sheds are like kites. 😂
Love the coop! We tried the milk crate, they loved them! Your Tom is named Danzig!!! Love it!!! 🤘😆🤘 Ours is Billy Joel. Angela named him lol 🙄 We have two turkens , I named them Syd and Nancy ;)
My wife wants turkens. We were going to name some of our birds those names too. Lol. Our pigs are Jerry Lee and Wanda Jackson. My wife just lost her grandmother yesterday so we’re gonna name one hen Donna. Have a good day my friend. Hope to visit after this mess.
No. I laid a thick layer of driveway gravel is all. It worked well for a while. I used the parts like roof and panels for a pallet shelter for the bucks before we moved.
The shed doesn't sweat? I built a cheap metal shed from Amazon. The thing sweated so much it literally rained in the shed. I had to insulate and seal it up and install larger vents to stop the sweating.
@@Just_Chuck_It I replaced one door with a chicken wire panel. Worked well. Currently have a cattle panel chicken tractor I made on our farm in Texas. I put wheels on it to move. Electric fencing for run.
It’s a great coop. Thanks. I’m sure we will need another one with the growth of our operation. People are waiting in line at the local feed store for chicks. Egg prices are going up. It’s nuts.
We moved from that property to Texas. I used the roof of that shed for a goat shelter. Used pallets for the walls. Lined the sides with the wall from the shed. It held up well but we used one of our outbuildings eventually for our chickens. It was a pretty standard size that worked great. We outgrew it tho.
Do you find that the shed internally gets too hot during the summer? I just put up a metal shed this weekend and will be moving our girls into it as soon as I get the run put up.
It does get warm. I made a screen with hardware cloth for one door opening and used the other door to enter. Make sure you tie it down with anchors. Hope everything goes well. They work great for coops.
I see ya screwed the nests to upright pallets? How did ya anchor the pallets into the shed? Or did I miss that part? I’m extremely new to anything “handyman” haha. Awesome videos.
The doors are not great long term. I replaced one side with a permanent panel using hardware cloth. The other door is starting to go tho. We laid a thick layer of gravel down first. Make sure you anchor it down or it will fly away.
Not sure where you live, but in wv we get lots of snow. Would this still make a good coop for me? I worry about them getting too cold in the winter, and too hot in the summer. Thanks
We get quite a bit of snow in Eastern Washington. I have since added a hardware cloth side to replace a door. This helped with condensation and airflow. Works great. Remember to use tie downs. These sheds will fly away with a decent gust. Our summers are pretty hot as well hence why we put under the tree canopy. Hope that helps. Roman

@@Staygoldfarms I was wondering about air circulation. Our plan was to maybe put a dog panel with a door on it over the opening. Then leave the double sliding doors open all the time. Until winter of course.
The shed needs to be anchored down real well. It’s best to keep one door off and screening the opening. This is for air circulation and perhaps putting in a light. We used a premier one light. It’s been working well.
@@Staygoldfarms does that not make it super cold in the winter? I was thinking we'd put in an exhaust fan with thermostat and humidity sensor to help in the summer and winter. What are your thoughts?
@@ashleyharrington keep in mind that we have ours under many large pine trees. It stays cool during the hot summers. If it’s exposed I’d consider using a fan. We have not lost any birds. We don’t use a heat lamp and it gets down to 0. I put cardboard up for really cold nights. Heated water bowls of course.

@@Staygoldfarms yes thank you for the responses. I plan to have two windows with 19 guage hardware cloth we got #200 feet of it me and my girlfriend are doing this together it's saving us a bunch of money doing it this way with a shed and not buying lumber it's too expensive at the moment.
We bought a metal shed for a chicken coop. But it will be in full Sun all day everyday 😭 any tips to keep it cool? I plan on making a fenced area so they can find shade and have access to water
Not sure if you could add a little fan. That might help. Plenty of water. Add a couple of vents. Get some air flow. I also took one door off and made a frame with hardware cloth. Used t posts to hold it in.
Pretty good job Roman I've been using milk crates for years the make good pigeon and chicken nest

Wow, you made a lot of coops! Good job! Your babies all look happy.
Thank you! We’re trying to keep 2 coops going now. Olive Eggers and Marans in one and blue layers in the other. We have a tractor for meat birds.
