I am usually upbeat and optimistic when it comes to EverQuest but when it comes to their new TLP servers I cant help but wonder if they got something wrong.
Watching this video a few weeks after the servers launched, it looks like you were spot-on: Teek had multi-hour long queues for days until they upped the server population cap, and Tormax… well, I hear it’s pretty quiet, but can’t say for sure because I haven’t been there.
The name reservation system does prompt you to pick which server you are reserving your name for, two options, Teek or Tormax, and its only good for that server chosen. So they definitely have that data!
I plan on playing on Tormax & i know plenty of people that will as well.. I'm sure Teek will be more popular, but it sure does feel like deja vu with Oakwynd.. Everybody on the forums gripes that it'll be DOA and super stagnant, yet when it released it was great. I thought with DBG finally appealing to the forums that people would stop laying eggs on people that just want to play a genuine TLP without the random loot or free trade :(
The big difference between Tormax and Oakwynd is that Oakwynd was the only option for a fresh TLP, so it was never actually going to be DoA. I do hope that Tormax has a good population and thrives. I hope that my comments dont come across as wanting it to fail.

I mean, with all due respect, this is not by any stretch a hot take. People have been saying this since the two servers were announced. But I think you're dead on the money here, and the name reservation system *would* have been a nice measuring stick for them to see how popular Teek was going to be vs Tormax. Even if the total number of reservations was still relatively few compared to the active playerbase, they should still be able to compare Teek and Tormax reservations side by side and notice the discrepancy. I believe Teek will be a complete shitshow on launch day, and maybe even launch week. It is poised to be an extremely popular server, and the last time we saw that kind of hype (Aradune), it was a colossal nightmare. People were remoting into their home computers from work to queue up because the 6-8 hour long login queues were the true raid boss. That's just ridiculous. I hope I'm wrong on all of this, but like you said, we'll just have to see....
Ya, it's something that people have been saying. But I had hope for a while that they would tweek tormax to be more desirable. It's way too late for that now, tho.
EQ devs can't even implement 4k UI resolution. Lower your expectations. Unfortunately, the game is on life support with *maybe* 1 developer. They spent their dev cycles implementing level 50 Heroics instead of fixing critical issues or tweaking tormax. They are milking their players.
