I'm happy that there are options for people to play different forms of a 25 year old game. I'm also happy that many people are getting what they want with a Mischief clone TLP. It's a nay for me but it's not all about be. I did really enjoy Aradune TLP 5 years ago. Went hard for 2 years on that server. One day I may find myself on a TLP again but for now the QOL changes on Quarm are mild enough for me and I'm "one of those guys" who's not really interested beyond PoP anyway. I'm looking forward to watching all the creators videos about Teek.
@googleifyouseekayu I'd probably breakdown and play a pop locked one at least a day or two a week along side quarm. Since you can progress at lightspeed on TLP
The most fun I have had on a TLP server was my time on Agnarr. I like you don't really enjoy expansions past PoP and I know Agnarr went to LdOn but to me it stopped at PoP it was such an amazing time there. The only thing I wish I could change about my time there is that I wish the guild I ran with for so many expansions could of cleared Time but sadly people stopped playing or went to the latest TLP server which lead to our guild slowly fizzling out and eventually getting absorbed in another guild but it just didn't feel the same to me and I stopped playing shortly after the guild being absorbed. I dont intent on playing on another TLp server mainly due to not having much time to invest into the game right now. But I'll def check out people streaming or making videos of it.
@dthurston87 I know how that feels. In classic wow that happened to me. Had a great guild. I was the #1 hunter. Loved raiding and grouping with them. Guild ended up breaking up during AQ. I went to a new guild and I just lost interest over night. Crazy how that happens. One of my big regrets is not knowing a out TLPs when Agnar came out. I was on p99 blue and just not paying enough attention to official EQ. I feel like it's been out too long to do anything there now unless they did something like you said where there are seasonal pop locked servers that dump there at the end. LDON would be fine with me. I don't mind the QOL stuff it brought to the game and PoP is still the cutting g edge raids outside of augments. Instanced dungeons while leveling up is a little meh but not a deal breaker.
I am 100% Tormax personally, but i am SO happy they made a Mischief clone so the masses that broke the forums over it, finally got it :) Randomized loot would completely destroy my desire to even play EverQuest.. I will say from the first 24 hours of playing on Tormax, that it has been incredibly annoying and toxic for people, who play on Teek, to log into Tormax to complain about Tormax.. Just go to Teek - we heard you for over a year - we get it lol.
I enjoy TLPs. But one of my biggest gripes with it is how fast the content drops. It feels like any progress you're making a month from now will be irrelevant with Velious right around the corner. This is an ongoing problem throughout the life spans of TLPs, especially considering most people seem to quit after PoP launches. That's one of the reasons I do like P99 a lot more. I have characters I've been working on for years. If I decided to just start playing my characters on Oakwynd that I made a year ago they are basically already obsolete. The progression doesn't have that years long longevity the way classic EQ does. Next problem is that wide-scale boxing on these servers makes it feel like you're gimped if you're not doing it. Maybe you can get your girlfriend to play and box her account when she's not online. 😜 If you do an Enc/Clr duo you can prob farm enough kronos to fund both accounts, especially if the Dark Elves in Kith forest haven't been nerfed (they dropped dragon and god tier loot on Mischief and could be farmed around the clock).
One of the main reasons I no longer play WoW is because most players tend to move on to the next new server as soon as the biggest guilds get to the endgame and beat a few raids... and imo retail is garbage(be it EQ or WoW), so the way I see it is those proggression servers are just retail with just less content and more appealing to the super casual players who don't mind the lack of a challenge(if compared to classic EQ). In the end P99 became the only server I play since it's something that possibly will stay alive for longer than retail EQ.
I consider TLPs to be harder than P99 / Quarm, but for reasons that might not make sense to most people. Like if you're level 40 on P99 you're probably going to go to the City of Mist and do a small static camp that's very chill and relaxed. If you're level 40 on TLP you're going to go to Sol B, Guk, The Hole etc. and camp the entire zone with a single group. Like a group of level 45s clearing all of the Kobold Royals, Bugs, Efreeti and some of the Fire Giants would never happen on a classic server, but that is the norm on TLPs. Lower Guk is the same way. You sit at AM and pull Lord, a lot of cav/exe/sage, hand, and work your way towards frenzied. Same thing with the Hole. Was super stressful being a puller for these groups. Playing my Enchanter was intense because I was having to chain CC 50 mobs at a time, and deal with charm breaks. It's more active, but also the exp is super fast and items are easily attainable. It just feels like a completely different version of the same game. But I think P99 is still a better experience because it's real EverQuest and one thing I strongly dislike about TLPs is the same thing I dislike about WoW. Any progress you make is basically deleted every couple of months because of how fast the content drops.
So I don’t get why random loot would encourage exploration? To me it does the opposite. With traditional loot I “get forced” to go seek out spots I would otherwise ignore because why would I not just go to fast shiny XP / named bonanza?
ill be on quarm, since everything in eq is new to me i dont think id appreciate the random loot factor, not knowing where it would originally be found, difficulty to obtain etc
The TLP's are like seasons on other games like poe last epoch diablo etc you play for a bit then get level cap get gear you want for a build then wait for next season and start over. Some people like that style of gameplay, personally I like my progress and time that ive put in to stay. TLP's in for me it was just rush rush rush get to level cap start raiding then next expansion comes out a month later rush to cap get that raid gear, i'd rather just chill and explore the world. They make a load of money from TLPs they get Subs from everyone playing them, they launch a new one every year, everyone jumps on and the older servers die out. not to mention all the in-game shop stuff its all just a really dirty cash grab honestly. I think a single person subbed for a year that'd pay for a server they are super cheap to spin up for the amount of people.
think this is why teek/mischief is a popular server type. lets u jus play vs rushing because of the random loot, no zerg guild can hold a specific camp down outside some epic quest mobs.

nope. TLPs are cheap money grabs by daybreak, while not making EQ3. TLPs are fun for a month, then the only thing left is 1 raiding guild and 9000 mage bot army's farming krono and locking down every possible loot spawn, You shout for 2 hours LFG that nearly never happens. I've played the TLPs since ragefire (maybe longer). Not doing it again. 2 months in, it's a ghost town other than krono farmers. these are not fun anymore.

I think that's a fair take, but it also depends on your own playstyle. With this server you aren't forced to go down the traditional routes. You still can if you like, but I think it just gives players more breathing space to level where they want to vs. the status quo.

yeah was seeing a post saying each tlp season should do whatever is their season theme tlp and one tlp to PoP locked to give agnarr new players.

I think there needs to be some sort of account wide achievement acknowledging and rewarding players that participate on multiple servers

I’ll play both. I prefer any TLP with a rule set as close to original as possible, but will try others
