rime of the ancient mariner is fucking dope. It's like my favorite iron maiden song and I like empire of the clouds too, what I like the most about this song is the lyrics. Fear of the dark and dance of death are good too I think.

I don't agree...have been a Maiden fan since my teens in the early 2000's, so they are not new to me. Thrash metal/hard rock has always been my favorite genres. Anyway, I love how on the studio version he hits every note and nuance perfectly, and combined with the masterful production of all the instruments combined, it makes for one of the truly classic studio recordings in rock/metal history. Everyone on YT seems to love that '82 live version, and while I'm not saying it's bad by any means, I just don't see how it's better than the studio version.
And believe me, I love lots of bands live versions better than their studio versions, but this is not one of them. Take Jimi Hendrix for instance, now he had a totally different style than this, but his best live performances were jaw dropping. Unfortunately most people are unaware of Hendrix's best live performances, even those who think they know all about him. This is Iron Maiden's most famous song, and for good reason. It's pretty epic. A couple others that I love are "Revelations" and "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", the latter of which is based on a Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem - the same poet who wrote "Kubla Khan" which was the inspiration for Rush's epic song, "Xanadu".

Darling you can't go wrong with IM songs. Bruce Dickson has what I call a "Power Voice". Many 'Vocal Coaches' who hear this song & Brue's voice for the time get absolutely 'bowled over' by his talent. Personally, I believe he has one of the best voices in the Music Biz. Bruce is a very Intelligent man & has proven himself a Master in other skills outside of music, too! The Band are made up of top talent & skill as well, the bassist wrote/ composed many of their songs.Great Song, I hope they I.M make you want to listen to more. Other's will disagree with me but I would suggest the song called "Run to the Hills" by them. The video gets the message across, it was made in the 1980's. Have the lyric's handy so you know exactly what they're singing about. Good Luck

Steve Harris writes most of the songs and is the bassist. Bruce Dickinson has the air raid siren pipes on lead vocal. Most of their songs are about history, deep thoughts, movies, etc. Yeah their music is very powerful and has deep classical influences for melody, time changes, etc.

I was a HUGE Maiden fan as a teen, and I still listen to them but really rarely (I'm in a different place now in my head and my tastes). But...I still love their musicality and drive, and this is a great first choice. This reaction brought such a smile to my face! I haven't heard this song in 20 years at least. Thank you for making me re-appreciate something I put to the side long ago. For a great Iron Maiden song as your next one: the very first one I heard back in 1983: Where Eagles Dare. It's probably the best all-out-driven-by-rhythm song I've ever heard and is one of the few IM songs I still play to this day. Hope you love it as much as I did when I first heard it. I wish we had reactions vids back then just so I could see my face.
