I remember in the 80s in the UK following the charts in Radio 1. No Maiden air play but you'd listen to the charts and their records invariably went straight in at Number 1, back when that meant something!
Maiden, now in their 60s, STILL put out more energy on accident, than these kids today do on purpose. Best stage show I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen Maiden live easily 25 times.

I can attest to this statement. I just saw Maiden over the summer for the first time and I can say Bruce Dickinson may be one of the best singers ive ever seen. His control, vibrato, and release is top notch mastery and Maiden as a group is some of the best musicians in the history of metal. Complete beasts and it looks like this chick wants their number.

Yes, but, like a lot of Older Metal Frontmen, you can hear that he can't sing as he used to 20 years ago, thats just how it is, you age, some better then others(thinking about Axel Rose...). But the enjoyement is still amazing and the atmosphere is electrifying.

I'm so jealous!! I couldn't physically be able to tolerate going to a show like that. But, Ye Gods, the lads would be a cataclysmic event! I've been watching some vids of them performing, and I think the key with them is, they seem to genuinely enjoy what they're doing. They don't just "phone it in". And I think they all turn up sober...which has to help everyone start and stop at the same place!

I'm also going to leave you with this tip: there's a certain mindset that is required to fully and completely enjoy metal, and you're never going to experience it while picking songs apart. Just remember, it's not all about the style and showmanship. It's more about the energy and raw emotion. Once you are able to just let the songs carry you away with them, metal becomes a way of life.

This is my favorite song by Iron Maiden. I wore out the record when it was released. So good. But best metal song in history? Both Victim of Changes and Beyond the Realms of Death by Judas Priest would be above it IMHO.
One of the best concerts I have ever witnessed was Iron Maiden. The energy from this band was electrifying and Bruce commanded that stage like it was his vessel. I still get chills when I think about that concert.

In my opinion, Steve Harris is pretty much the best bassist around. I mean... who else is there? Les Claypool? He goes too far out of his way to show everyone how "good" he is. Billy Sheehan? Plays his bass like it's a guitar. Just play a guitar, dude. Yeah... Steve Harris is it. There are some solid players in Alternative and Punk in terms of playing what's really right for the song. I won't go into them here because the list is too long. Harris walks the fine line between creative/unique and good for the song better that anyone else I can think of.

When it comes to front-men, Bruce Dickinson is second only to Freddie.

You're very right about Bruce being a conductor. I've seen them live 3 times and one time, he made the audience sing an entire song. Divided us, give signals, it sounded really good and the band had the biggest smiles on their faces

I respect all genres of music for most part... however metal seems to be the area where musicians push themselves a little harder. Metal is where a collection of men and women come together and attempt to create a utopia of vocals, keyboards, guitars, drums, etc. If I sat down and attempt the guitar, drums, from some of these metal hits etc. and try to sing metal I am lost. A pop song comes on the radio I am ready to jam!

Please please please please (I don't know if that's to many pleases but) please please do a reaction to Stargazer, the band is called Rainbow and was at a time when Dio was their front man. I think you should give Mike Patton a listen. Whether it be Faith No More, Mr Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantomas.... He doesn’t just sing, he legit uses his voice as another instrument in the band (which it is, I know, but few vocalists seen to think that way).

There's a clip in a documentary titled "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey", done by a huge fan of all kinds of metal. During an interview with Bruce Dickinson, he made a point about being a front man for a band. He said his job was to sing to everyone in the audience as if they were in the front row, even the fans all the way in the back in the nosebleeds. That even the guy who could only afford a ticket for the worst seat in the venue deserved to believe Bruce was singing directly to them. I can't remember most of that documentary. I do however, remember what Bruce said in that interview, and the conviction with which he said it. A conviction that he has proven by becoming one of the most beloved metal/rock singers of all time. Talent, and hard work only go so far if an artist forgets who they're doing their craft for, and Bruce has proven that being completely devoted to your fans onstage literally, and figuratively, pays dividends.
Layne Staley. He's no opera singer like Dio or Dickenson but he has a lot of soul. Very emotive singer. Wake Up by Mad Season live at the Moore Theatre. Or Nutshell by Alice in Chains studio. I don't think there is much smoke and mirrors in the production so...

I think the best part of these reviews/reacts is that you guys are doing far more to music acceptance to other genres than you ever realise. There is so much snobbery is going on in all the genres that it sickens me as I only differentiate good music from bad by simply listening to it, whatever the style is.
Aye, a good point. Too many of us, be that fans of whatever genre, just dismiss other styles without giving them a chance. And even if we do sometimes we just can't understand what's supposed to be so great about it. My personal "huh?" point is jazz, especially the more experimental stuff. I can hear that the musicians are really good at their thing but it just doesn't connect for me. Doesn't mean I have to badmouth them though, I'll freely admit they are damn good - just not my thing.

Bruce Dickenson has great diction too. Think this footage is around 1982 ish so please check out recent last tour in 2018 and compare his vocals.. He is a great artist and gives his fans entertainment on stage and not loosing the song IRON MAIDEN. BRILLIANT
You really can't do that though, for one he is on his late 20's here? Put 30 years of touring on top of that and no one can sustain a performance level like that, heck, even disregarding their insane tour schedule, a 50 year old vocalist just can't perform like that period. That guy is amazing, they have their own plane called Ed Force 1 and guess what? He's The PILOT, he's fencer, a writer, a songwriter, a broadcaster, producer, businessman and he recently beat the fucking cancer. Also, No More Lies and Fear of the Dark are probably worth a look. By all account he's an incredible performer. I remember a live show where I was, he tripped on a wire, got up and continued like nothing happened. And he's old enough to be my grandfather xD Such energy

I can attest to this statement. I just saw Maiden over the summer for the first time and I can say Bruce Dickinson may be one of the best singers ive ever seen. His control, vibrato, and release is top notch mastery and Maiden as a group is some of the best musicians in the history of metal. Complete beasts and it looks like this chick wants their number.

Yes, but, like a lot of Older Metal Frontmen, you can hear that he can't sing as he used to 20 years ago, thats just how it is, you age, some better then others(thinking about Axel Rose...).
But the enjoyement is still amazing and the atmosphere is electrifying.

The real boss, Bruce Dickinson.hes 61 this year and he is still as SAVAGELY good and as savagely energetic as he was then but he is very voice conscious and very positive about keeping his body healthy. He is one amazing guy, multi talented, like. The rest of the lads are just as unique and brilliant. Nicko, the drummer, mad as a brush and my GOD his drumming. I've seen them with my partner twice . Honestly, a Maiden gig is more than just any gig. The WHOLE gig your eyes on the stage, transfixed, jaw dropped, mesmerised by Bruce launching himself from one end of the stage to the other, up on platforms, ALWAYS involving the crowd. The energy he gives is insane , even NOW AFTER BEATING TONGUE CANCER!! They are still 💯🤘🤘!!!! I think Bruce Dickinson is a secret superhero. 😁😀

I've been watching some vids of them performing, and I think the key with them is, they seem to genuinely enjoy what they're doing. They don't just "phone it in". And I think they all turn up sober...which has to help everyone start and stop at the same place!

It's extremely refreshing to see someone who is so clearly pop, appreciating and understanding the brilliance in metal music. I think I'm gonna mash that subscribe button. I'm also going to leave you with this tip: there's a certain mindset that is required to fully and completely enjoy metal, and you're never going to experience it while picking songs apart. Just remember, it's not all about the style and showmanship. It's more about the energy and raw emotion. Once you are able to just let the songs carry you away with them, metal becomes a way of life.

This is my favorite song by Iron Maiden. I wore out the record when it was released. So good. But best metal song in history? Both Victim of Changes and Beyond the Realms of Death by Judas Priest would be above it IMHO.
One of the best concerts I have ever witnessed was Iron Maiden. The energy from this band was electrifying and Bruce commanded that stage like it was his vessel. I still get chills when I think about that concert.

I respect all genres of music for most part... however metal seems to be the area where musicians push themselves a little harder. Metal is where a collection of men and women come together and attempt to create a utopia of vocals, keyboards, guitars, drums, etc. If I sat down and attempt the guitar, drums, from some of these metal hits etc. and try to sing metal I am lost. A pop song comes on the radio I am ready to jam!

Hi Rebecca I want to second what Chris has just said. Stargazer is in my opinion the greatest song ever written and is sung by the greatest metal vocalist ever. There's a clip in a documentary titled "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey", done by a huge fan of all kinds of metal. During an interview with Bruce Dickinson, he made a point about being a front man for a band. He said his job was to sing to everyone in the audience as if they were in the front row, even the fans all the way in the back in the nosebleeds. That even the guy who could only afford a ticket for the worst seat in the venue deserved to believe Bruce was singing directly to them.
I can't remember most of that documentary. I do however, remember what Bruce said in that interview, and the conviction with which he said it. A conviction that he has proven by becoming one of the most beloved metal/rock singers of all time.
Talent, and hard work only go so far if an artist forgets who they're doing their craft for, and Bruce has proven that being completely devoted to your fans onstage literally, and figuratively, pays dividends.
Bruce is the real KING of Heavy Metal singers !!!

Layne Staley. He's no opera singer like Dio or Dickenson but he has a lot of soul. Very emotive singer. Wake Up by Mad Season live at the Moore Theatre. Or Nutshell by Alice in Chains studio. I don't think there is much smoke and mirrors in the production so...

@@ledgm108 Well that's shitty. No one could be more menacing and no one could sing with more pain than Layne. I will take that any day over the theatrical style of Dickinson. Don't get me wrong. I love Iron Maiden and Bruce is good. But Layne Staley was a game breaker in rock vocals.

I think the best part of these reviews/reacts is that you guys are doing far more to music acceptance to other genres than you ever realise. There is so much snobbery is going on in all the genres that it sickens me as I only differentiate good music from bad by simply listening to it, whatever the style is.
Aye, a good point. Too many of us, be that fans of whatever genre, just dismiss other styles without giving them a chance.
And even if we do sometimes we just can't understand what's supposed to be so great about it. My personal "huh?" point is jazz, especially the more experimental stuff. I can hear that the musicians are really good at their thing but it just doesn't connect for me. Doesn't mean I have to badmouth them though, I'll freely admit they are damn good - just not my thing.

Bruce Dickenson has great diction too. Think this footage is around 1982 ish so please check out recent last tour in 2018 and compare his vocals.. He is a great artist and gives his fans entertainment on stage and not loosing the song

You really can't do that though, for one he is on his late 20's here? Put 30 years of touring on top of that and no one can sustain a performance level like that, heck, even disregarding their insane tour schedule, a 50 year old vocalist just can't perform like that period. That is to say nothing he had throat cancer! The fact he can still sing at a level that is "good enough" is simply amazing

Oh! Don't get me wrong man, like I said, I think it's amazing he can still sing at the level he is today, which by his standards I would consider "good enough", by anybody else's standards he is still a really good singer, it's just that he was at such high level that, unfortunately, he can't keep up to anymore, no one could, based on age alone, it even happens to Opera singers who have ALL the training and haven't sung in half of the concerts that Bruce has, it's just age really, it happens to us all, especially when you are talking about singing which is such a physically demanding task. Put his throat cancer on top of that and it's a true miracle that can even even sing anymore!

I think they'll be touring next year in Europe, my suggestion... GO!!!! The Legacy of The Beats is the name of the tour and you're gonna love the theatricality of their show. That guy is amazing, they have their own plane called Ed Force 1 and guess what? He's The PILOT, he's fencer, a writer, a songwriter, a broadcaster, producer, businessman and he recently beat the fucking cancer. The way he commands the audience it's remarkable and that's why I consider him The Best Frontman of Heavy Metal Genre!!!! You should watch the concert of Donington 92' and you can react to Run to the Hills Live from The Legacy of The Beast (I was there) and Fear of The Dark Live in Argentina at the Flight 666 Tour. Love your reactions very composed yet genuine ^^ This performance is from 1982, you might want to take a look at the rock in Rio 2001 performance for 2 reasons: he had a longer experience, and that year the tour had a very special line up of guitarists (all 3 historical), you might find an even wilder solo in this one ;) guitars answering each other. Also, No More Lies and Fear of the Dark are probably worth a look. By all account he's an incredible performer. I remember a live show where I was, he tripped on a wire, got up and continued like nothing happened. And he's old enough to be my grandfather xD Such energy
