Iron Maiden for 24 years had 2 guitarists. But starting in 1999, with the return of Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith to the band, they began to have 3 guitarists. Dave Murray (who plays the intro, the first solo and the one at the end), Janick Gers, who replaced Adrian Smith and in this video has camouflage pants (he is the one who plays the second solo) and Adrian Smith himself, in my opinion, the best guitarist Maiden has ever had.
Janick was a really good friend of all the members of the band before he joined. When Adrian returned, they didn't have the heart to kick him out. If you watch Maiden's concerts now, Janick doesn't actually play much. He runs onstage and throws his guitar around a lot, but he does do much actual playing.
bruce just did a live show in l.a. the mandrake project live in santa ana and livr at the whisky a go go. small club. there he was in full cry and also playing the drums and theramin. did the whisky secret show, sold tickets to fans. thought it would be fun.
Just a personal belief: everyone MUST listen to one Maiden song before turning 18. Maybe make it a part of getting your driver's license? I don't care how, just make it happen.
@@nem447 yes, for Sure. He was younger and he went through a difficult time with cancer. I learned many words in English with Iron maiden lyrics. Great Rock band. 💛💛
Actually, Steve Harris formed Iron Maiden, which is an English🏴band on the 25th of December 1975(Xmas;), as his former band told him his music was too hard(listen to Phantom of the Opera;) Which he wrote, but the band said,...yeah,...nah, too difficult buddy😂🤣 Iron Maiden was born. The lyrics is great. It reflects every ones life. We are all in a death roll. But every one can say " hallowed be thy name" and face the truth. Just as the thief on the Cross. God saves us . ❤
We are loyal, because Maiden has earned it, over and over again, and we love our brothers and sisters. The best example of it I have actually seen is after a Slayer concert in the 90's though where on the train ride home a little group of asswipes were harassing a young woman and the whole train car stood up and, umm, "put them in their place" before strongly suggesting they get off at the next stop. What people don't understand is that metal, all that supposed rage and anger is really, deep down a love of humanity and wanting it to be better. Or a passion for good stories :)
Ah, yes, "Fear of the dark" ... if you haven't heard that one, you're gonna like it. It was released in 1992, just when classic heavy metal was beginning to get - thankfully only temporarily - shunned from the public eye, on Iron Maiden's ninth studio album of the same name. The song was never even released a single, though a live version got some MTV traction the following year. But its status has just continued to grow over the years. Iron Maiden have been tremendously successful in drawing in every new generation to their fanbase, and those younger fans thorougly promoted "Fear of the dark" to be, not only ONE of the band's most popular song. In fact, it can be argued, that at this point it has become the band's SIGNATURE song, dethroning the 1982 song "Run to the hills". That's how insanely popular that song has become, and for good reason. It's another slice of bombastic, singalong, Steve Harris genius, very much like "Hallowed be thy name" in fact.
If you light complicated music (Progressive?), Iron Maiden just made in 2016 the longest song of their career. "Empire of The Cloud" from the album "Book of Souls". It's actually majestic, near to progressive rock, with also classical instruments. In top of that, the story is a fantastic narration of an historic event, and as you've seen here Bruce is a fantastic storyteller. (Sadly they never played "Empire of the clouds" live)

Straight to the deep end. 12 000 people in small hockey arena. I was in some other universe for 1,5 hours. And afraid of the arena collapsing because people were jumping and stomping so hard the whole building was literally shaking. Yes!!! They are still touring, they’re coming to San Diego, CA., this fall, am going with my daughter! You need to watch, Rime of the Ancient Mariner 🖤🖤🖤
As a 56 years old Metalhead like me with still long hair is that normal Music ,ok my start as a Metalhead was 1980 with 13 years , all Member of Maiden are 2024 older than 65 years and the Drummer Nicko is over 70 years old
BTW, try listening to some of Bruce's solo stuff (Tears Of The Dragon, Trumpets of Jericho, Jerusalem, Chemical Wedding, Accident of Birth, The Tower, etc.... He has done some amazing stuff solo 😊
'Afraid to shoot strangers', since we're talking about getting carried away by guitars 😃 i think it's my iron maiden personal favourite also 'fear of the dark' and 'running free' are great, and of course 'phantom of the opera' (not the lloyd webber > nightwish one, which we all love and cherish, a lucky omoniminity between different kinds of grandeur)
6:50 there is also another liver version .. 1983 with 2 guiitarists and instead of Nicko it has the criminally underrated Clive Burr on drums. But be a fun one to react to and compare Bruce from then to this video ;)

now you know why his manager called him the human air raid siren. actually when he joined the band a fan wrote to a mag saying the band had awful music and the singer sounded like as human air raid siren. which the manager played up. the bass started the band. dave joined later. when another left he suggested his school pal and neighbor adrian. when adrian left for a time jannick, who was a neighborm of bruce who had played on the tattooed millionair tour was suggested. then when adrian came back they kept jannick.

The three guitarist thing started in 2002 , because in 1990 Adrian Smith left (2nd guitarist), then in 1993 Bruce (singer) left, and a few years later they rejoined but decided to keep Janick (3rd guitarist) and have 3 guitars. Not sure if any metal or rock band ever officially had 3 guitarists as fixed part of the band. You should definitely do "fear of the Dark" from this concert. And for a more complex song I suggest "ghost of the navigator" also from this concert. Also, "Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" from their flight 666 frottage your on a good way 😛 oh, and "journeyman" from "Death in the road" for one of the very few ballads as well as "Paschendale" from that concert, which is again a complex song with a lot of thatrics
