Hey everyone! I'm happy to announce the start of my Travel Adventure series here on TH-cam called The African Vlog. It's gonna be around 30 videos that I made while shooting my Travel TV Show for the Slovak National TV and then another one for Red Bull. Hope I can upload at least once a week, I'll do my best! ;)
Actually, it's crazy that no one at the Border control either from Prague or Barcelona is able to sort out the visa's policy between the two nations... However since November 2019 all the citizens from Europe can travel to The Gambia without a visa needed.
I first came upon these vids when my mom was randomly shuffling TH-cam mixes and I ended up falling in love with your African vlog series. They're pretty educational and give showcase on what's life like in these African countries.
Wow, what a pain! Years ago my mother used to travel frequently from California to The Gambia..no visa, nothing except a passport. How things have changed! Really like your videos.

I went to the Gambia with Slovak passport few weeks after you (though entering overland) and when phoned the Gambia embassy in Belgium, they said Slovakia needed a visa (and I had to buy them beforehand). It was also checked pretty thoroughly at the land border, just so that you know for the future! :)

I get beaten up by the public toilet ladies or the train conductors in Slovakia. I think it's because I always arrive from Hungary, which p@sses them off.

Love the bribe situation. My dad imported his truck from the US to Poland and the border guards wanted a bribe to pick it up. He refused and finally got the truck 3 weeks later. LOL. We also went through the old Czechoslovakia border in 89. That was 5 hours at the border to pass from Poland or East Germany. It was crazy. They had mirrors and all kinds of checks. Reminded me of some crazy Nazi period. Of course, all changed nowadays.
That has very little to do with your visa issue, but let me tell you one experience I had. As an EU citizen I took advantage of the new visa-free regime of Kazakhstan and booked a very reasonably priced flight with connection in Moscow. I spent half a year researching if I needed Russian transit visa. Some agencies even said that a full tourist visa was necessary, all (!) Russian consulates claim (still do!) a transit visa is necessary for an airside airport transit to Kazakhstan, but Aeroflot said no (called them twice and wrote them several emails). A guy at tripadvisor said that Russian consulates do not know whether you actually need a visa, they just sell and issue them. After deciding I did not want to risk it, I tried to get an appointment at my local Russian consulate but they had no slot left. Not wanting to book through an agency I finally went without a visa and it was OK, no bribe, no anything. But I was really thrilled during the check-in I had at Prague airport. Kazakhstan, by the way, was a great experience.

Schengen only applies to members of Schengen. The EU is not a country so when you travel outside the EU the rules can always differ depending on what country you're a citizen of.

i once driven into Slovakia from Poland through a beautiful mountainous countryside road, you have a beautiful country. visa is complicated sometimes, airlines always follow IATA global travel database for visa guidances, as seen here, some airline staff didn't do their job.

how did they let you in the plane without visa? Airlines do not allow this because they would need to pay the cost of bringing you back when denied at boarder
man I know the frustration when I flew first time to South Africa 2 years ago I bought the flight tickets but the laws and relations between SA and Slovakia have changed within a month before my trip and so I got on the plane in Glasgow not knowing that I needed a visa landed in Dubai to find out that I could not carry on to South Africa ... fortunately for me I have dual citizen ship so so I just used my czech passport I had with me too but true Slovakia is not very well known in the world :D :D
As someone who lives in a tropical country, the best things to have when you're living in the middle of nowhere in the pouring rain with a house with no electricity, are: bottled water and toilet paper. Then you're good.
