- Martina loves Onigiri. It might be her favourite thing to eat in Japan (it's either that or ramen), but we've never really had amazing onigiri, until today. Now, we're traveling out to Onigiri Bongo, and we're tasting some of the best onigiri of our lives. This place is something to write home about. Martina will be writing a letter to her neighbour about this place, for sure :D

For this week's video, we're finally going to the onigiri shop that Martina has wanted to go to for months. MONTHS! But now we're here, and we're gonna have some of the best onigiri of our lives :D

….I had no idea Shinjuku was under construction? I think last year I did stop by like once, but I guess I forgot about it being under construction. The train station in Tokyo I get most confused at is actually Shibuya, it has way too many exits!
Oh noe that line! Martina you totally need that walking stick that has an inbuilt seat into it, so that on tough days like this you just fold it out and take a seat.
Next time I visit the Sekaido art store in Shinjuku I'm going to attempt to then make my way to this Onigiri shop!

Usually I want to get out on the side where the Hachiko statue is, but for some reason I always exit from one of the side exits that is like....super far away from the statue, so I end up being like "....okay now i must come back this way cause i will get lost if I don't"
I also got confused with the exits 😂 Me and my mom must've looked so lost because someone came up to ask if we needed help haha.
Blue_Rosa _art i was just transferring but i left my luggage at a locker by the hachiko exit and my mom and i took about 15 minutes finding it, plus we’d already been traveling for like 3 hours

Randrewe アンドリュー thank you for the translation! Do you happen to know the right translation for asking permission for food to-go? Like perhaps you couldn’t finish a meal & would like to put it in your bento box or something. I don’t know if this shop (or any shop besides fast food chains) allow it.
@@seventeen7428 This shop have takeaway option but I'm not sure if they will allow you to bring unfinished food to-go. It's best that you don't over order because the onigiri is very filling :)

It is just rice filled eith things wrapped this seaweed. But somehow it's REALLY REALLY good. Idk what they did but whatever it is, they definitely did it right.

There is a possibility that I might adopt my grandmother's old golden retriever (she is an 11+ year old lady and I love her and her going to a shelter is a NO NO) and I've been feeling SO rejuvenated. I've been going through one of the roughest phases of my life, but the thought of this dog was enough to lift my spirits significantly. Sorry, that poodle and Martina's excitement just reminded me of Spudgy how dogs are too good for this world. I hope you will welcome another puppy-soul back into your lives soon, he/she would be the luckiest!

THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY! Onigiri is one of my most favorite foods and I would cry from happiness if I went there. I ate onigiri every day during my 2 week trip in Japan last year🖤 I also make them pretty often at home.

Martina, that look on your face and your eyes welling up with tears! It broke my heart. I wanted to cry with you. I know that feeling all too well this past year. I have no diagnosis yet, just sent on my way by the neurologist, I waited 6 months to see, with a "just wait and see if it gets worse". But I saw your face and new exactly how much you were needing the onigiri shop to live up to your expectations. Keep building a ladder! You got this! On a side note: Onigiri is one of my favorite Japanese foods as well. Onigiri with a bowl of miso is a great lunch!

Onigiri are so delicious, a must-eat whenever I go through Penn Station when I'm traveling and one of my favorite "simple yet timeless fare" foods ever. Onigiri Bongo sounds like a hopping place if it took months to get the perfect time to film there, and since Martina looks so forward to it that she wears onigiri earrings and the new Build A Ladder baseball cap she made for the EatYourKimchi/EatYourSushi store.

I ate soooo many onigiri as a student in Japan! To the point where every time I come back to Japan, as soon as I'm out of Narita I find a convenience store and buy two onigiri: spiced roe, and umeboshi. Absolute best welcome to Japan- like a warm comforting blanket/ kogi!
Did find an AMAZING little shop run by an old lady in the back streets of Arashiyama in Kyoto this summer, who made such wonderful yaki onigiri as part of a set meal (2 yaki onigiri, miso, pickles, and matcha/adzuki mini shave ice desert). I was in heaven!!

I love this video, it makes me feel homesick though. Traveling through all the stations especially when you arent fluent is very difficult. I lived in Japan volunteering during the summer for years but due to Covid-19 I can't right now. Anyone who is interested in Japan should go, I took my mother and best friend on different occasions, and both were the best adventures I have ever had.

I made different kinds of onigiri for dinner tonight after watching your video. I happened to have a bunch of shiso on hand so I tried making my own miso-shiso! I never even knew of this condiment until watching your video and then searching a recipe online. The taste was amazing! Tonight I made spicy tuna, kani-mayo, and shiso-miso filling onigiri. Thank you again for the food inspiration!

Martina, I'm so happy for you that you got to have such a great experience with a food that means so much to you. Sentimental value is super important, and it actually has a measurable positive effect on not just mental health, but on the actual "happy hormones" we produce. Pair that up with the indisputable positive impact of good food and the achievement of getting out of the house, and you have yourself a really good day. I highly recommend you make the journey to the onigiri treasure trove at least once a month. It's good for you.

I’ve been having a lot of doubts about trying to travel to Japan again, but watching your videos puts me at ease and really reminds me of what I enjoyed most - trying new things and just having that means to go anywhere. (even in spite of the hell which is Shinjuku station, which might I note I was lost in for 30 minutes once. The security fellow just shook his head as he watched me pass by every few minutes. I stopped trying to communicate with him in broken Japanese after about the 4th attempt of navigating...)

I love you guys and this new format of the day in the life but im really not liking this new camera you guys have been using. I feel like the food porn shots are not as amazing because the colours are all blurry like you have an instagram filter on the whole video and I always loved looking at the surrounding background but this camera blurs all your surroundings too much. This is off-topic: I wore my Candy Dragon t-shirt to work and my Japanese co-worker was highly amused by it and showed me a picture of a "dog dragon" statue (I can't remember the Japanese word!).
