Dear Rtings Team, I belong to India and I am getting very good deal on Sony A95L(around 30% less than market price) . It’s an showroom display model (tentatively must be there from last 6-8 months may be). The unit looks good and it sounds great. To the best of my knowledge it must have run DAILY 10-12 hours each day on an average from last 6-8 months. It have few/minor scratches on screen but dealer is ready to replace entire display with brand new original sony display. When asked they told they usually take insurance of the costly model and are using the same to replace the oled display. In addition to this they are giving original product warranty (same that is applicable on brand new tv) on the Tv which is of 3 years(extended warrent option is also available by paying some additional bucks). Please advise if I should purchase this showroom display model.
Thank you❤ I am an engineering. Project manager. Because of your review, I might switch from the 75” OLED A80 L to the 65” A95 L. The price difference is not that much more, about $300. Question for you, if you like gaming and movies, would you sacrifice the 10” and go with the 65” A95 L or would you get the 75”. There are advantages to both; the 75” is bigger but the quality of the 64” A95 L is second to none. I am leaning to try A95 L
Might I suggest that instead of having "Better than XX% of TVs tested", you display the percentile of a score instead? For something like Blooming, which scores a perfect 10/10, it shows as "Better than 43% of TVs tested". I think the better statistic would be the fact that it's in the 100th percentile.

I recently bought this TV, and I love it, all except one huge thing which I think is going to cause me to return it. The built in auto-dimming makes sports too dark for me to enjoy. I should have researched this dimming effect more before I bought it, I am surprised I do not see more people complaining about it
Two issues on my A95L, 2/3rds of the screen went black when I was switching HDMI inputs. It remained there on other inputs but not on the home screen I had to reboot to correct this. A replacement TV did the same thing. I removed the Firestick (with recast box) from the HDMI input and resolved this issue. A Sony engineer was very interested and supportive. The 2nd issue is the very slow switching to ATSC 3.0 channels, typically 13 seconds. Hopefully this will get resolved in a firmware update. Still love the picture so I'm keeping it.
Turns out the removal of the Firestick did correct the 2/3rds black screen issue. It returned on its own, first starting as a darker area then all black. It only does this occasionally and only when the image is not static. Appears to be a firmware bug. I return it for a refund.

I live in an apartment, so wall mounting isn't an option. That means I would also have to buy a large piece of furniture (which I really don't have room for) on which to place this TV. I don't understand why Sony doesn't have an option for width adjustment on the legs (stand). I'd love to own one of these, but the mounting limitations forbid it.
I just saw a video on You Tube where Sony says its dropping this TV and going with Mini Led tv....and the reason is the panels are cheaper which means more profits for Sony. So i guess if you can get this TV on sale and are looking for one buy it!
Unfortunately with the 55" and 65" models, the stand has to be put on the edges, though you can adjust the height if you have a soundbar as mentioned in the video. Only the 77" model can be changed to the outside or inside the position of the TV.

I think you just affirmed my concerns about burn in: "Burn-in will only be an issue if you plan on displaying static content, or want to play the same thing repeatedly for long periods." I watch CNBC 10 hours a day, and don't appreciate what burn-in did to my Pioneer Elite 1140 plasma. Seems we can't yet be any more secure about OLED tech.
Easy solution. Either don't subject yourself to news channels for 10 hours a day or buy a diff type of TV. Even LCDs are subject to burn in watching static images or constantly using closed captions (looking at you Applebee's TV).
"We" absolutely can be secure about OLEDs since "We" are not "You". I'll bet the amount of people who watch TV like you do is a fraction of one percent. It's not for you but there are plenty of decent LCDs out there.
A lot of reviews say the lack of 2.1 ports isn’t a big issue for most people, but it is for me and not sure if this is a deal breaker or not. If I was to get a HDMI switch, would the TV save the picture settings I set up in each HDMI input or would it just use the same settings and I would have to change each time to my liking depending what I was using? I’m assuming as the switch would be plugged into HDMI 1 on the tv, it would use these same settings whether I was watching SDR or HDR, movies or cable? Or am I talking rubbish ?
"There are ads built in that you can't fully turn off" Absolute insanity that this is just accepted in a TV at any price, let alone one that costs over $3,000. No thanks.
I just got my 65” A95L but I’m not seeing where the Multi View settings are or how to do it ? Sony said “Multi View: Exclusively on the A95L, use Multi View to split your screen and enjoy watching content from two different sources at the same time. Such as playing a game on one side and watching a walkthrough on the other.2,3”. How can this be done ! ?
thanks abby and rtings to tell the truth Sony A95l excel in image quality, upscaling when watching over-the-air broadcast and streaming low bit rate content, where Samsung S90C pales away extra money worth it , Samsung s90c few second good images then not that clear image annoying to watch when watching over the air broadcast and streaming low bit rate content, Also Sony has a separate button in tv remote, samsung mix atsc 3.0 tuner with atsc 1.0 and Samsung free tv program difficult to navigate remote. Sony A95l is my choice of TV, and it is worth the money.
I went the S95C route. This Sony is awesome, but not $800 more awesome for same 65" size. An extra $300 or so, and I would probably have grabbed that bait.
I’m surprised you didn’t recommend the Samsung S90C as an alternative, at least the 77 inch version. A lot of people and reviewers say it’s 90% of the S95C and it’s a good deal cheaper, doesn’t suffer the issues the One Connect box brings. I am sure the A95L is the best TV ever for the people that can afford it, but for $2,000-$2,500 the S90C is an incredible value, it’s the best TV I have ever owned by far.
Does your s90c have coilwhine when it's powered off? I'm happy with the image of mine but mine have coilwhine, so I'll return it. I might buy another one though.
@@PatrikKron I’ve heard and read a few people have this issue with this TV, but no I must have been fortunate because my S90 doesn’t have this. I know it can be an issue though, I had a Samsung LCD tv about a decade ago that did that. If you exchange yours you might get one that doesn’t have it.
I hope you don't mind a little advice from a retired photographer but I'd move your lights around to avoid getting reflections in the presenter's eye glasses.
The WORST decision Sony made for this new model is using a FULL WIDTH stand! Seriously, EVERYONE has to have a large enouge room for a SUPER LARGE/WIDE tv furniture to place this whole 65+ inch tv on it, ridiculous!
@@craiglyons2314I went this route for an older LG that I lost the stand legs for. Cheap solution and definitely recommend it 👍. I hear yuh though.. I always love when a TV has a center stand that way u can set it up on almost anything.
Keep in mind, the s95c for example actually didn’t stand straight with its centre stand, my 55” tilted down to the right, not to mention the screen was warped in the back. Needless to say it went back and I am looking forward to the a95l… the “end of screen feet stand” mean it should at least be straight.
Ho la versione da 55”pollici, tv incredibile, ma soffre di vertical banding su immagini grigie, anche se non danno molto fastidio durante la visione normale.
Rtings, question for the team: When a TV hdr peak highlight is different at 3%, vs at 10%., let's say 500 nit difference, what do you set your hdr game calibration to? The 3% nit value or 10%? If you set it to the 3% nit value, will it clip the medium sized highlights, but if you set it too low, you wont use the high brightness from small highlights? Whats the tradeoff your team recommends?
I have the same question as well! I think based on hdtv test recommendation for the A95L, due to the lack of HGIG support on sony tvs, you should first turn off hdr tone mapping then use the hdr calibration (all the way down for dark as tjis is oled, and until the sun disappears for bright highlights which should take 17 clicks from the bottom for the A95L). As turning hdr tone mapping off without the option for HGIG, you will be undertraking the PQ EOTF curve but the reason for this calibration is to reach the clipping point, after that turn hdr tone mapping to gradation prefered which should track the curve as best as possible (given no HGIG support).
We'll try to do that a bit better in future videos, but in the meantime you can check out our comparison tool on our site to help! www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-a95k-oled-vs-sony-a95l-oled/31217/39009?usage=1&threshold=0.10

Speaking of ATSC 3.0, How about testing the tuners on those TV's that have that spec? Also a primer on how to set up an ATSC 3.0 TV since it also has to have an Internet connection to use with some stations (i.e. have encoded signals.) I've also found that the Channel Guides on various TV's have widely different performance. I'm pointing my finger at you Samsung. I have to sets a few years old that the guide is as fast as a snail running a 1K.
I bought this TV in 77" about two months ago from Best Buy. Cost me 5 grand plus another grand for a 5 year warranty. So far it's working perfectly. It's been updated twice. This is the best TV I've ever owned and seen. Really happy with it. I'm glad to learn that other rating companies have also rated it the best.
5grand is just crazy. 77 inch Samsung S 90c Qoled is less than half that price for slightly weaker image processing and slightly less image accuracy. Two things that I guarantee you personally would not notice unless you have both screens side-by-side showing duplicate content. Most people are not watching up scaled content these days. If you are in the know of these high-end TVs, you’re most likely streaming high quality content more than 50% of the time. Sony is charging this much for top shelf processing chips at a price that is far beyond normal profit margins.
The G3 was $4500 at launch (I'm including the additional $200 stand/foot in that figure since that is what it cost me). There has always been a Sony tax so launching @ $500 more vs. G3 was fairly reasonable when you look at it. Especially with it being QDOLED vs WOLED. The price will come down eventually, like it did for the G3 and S95C. Samsung and LG had their chance to scalp us early adopters.. can't blame Sony for doing the same can you?
@@martinchitembo1883 I've only listened to it through my surround sound system. Just need them to take the newest gen QD-OLED tech and put it in a TV just under this one in the lineup and make it cost way less. I want an affordable QD-OLED, but I also want Dolby Vision support lol
Not sure who this TV is for in some ways. Best at low content like cable (who still uses this?), and has a deal-breaking amount of HDMI 2.1 ports. Better they invested in fixing that over the always mediocre speakers on TVs. So you’ll spend a considerable amount on a TV that’s the best sure, but is also stuck in the past. Very strange.
Yes. I used it for a week and then got rid of it. Pretty much useless and I‘m not going to have a camera on a TV connected to Internet ,just as a security precaution. There’s also a physical sliding cover and I think also a physical on/off camera switch next to the ports on the back side.
Both of these TVs perform really similarly in our tests and it really comes down to personal preference and what you plan to use them mostly for! The G3 is the brighter OLED, it can reach a higher peak brightness in HDR and performs better in SDR when bright content takes up a large portion of the screen. However, the LG G3's HDR brightness drops quite a bit in Game Mode, while the S95C maintains its brightness well in that mode. The S95C officially supports 4k @ 144Hz, giving it the edge over the 120Hz G3. The S95C can output much brighter colors overall, so, typical of Samsung panels, its colors will be 'punchier' than the G3's. and with its wider color gamut, the S95C will be the more vibrant TV in most cases!
Kinda hard to go with any TV right now as in a few months all the new TV's shown at CES go on sale.. Even if you don't want one of those new models will make last year models like this drop in price...

The stand is horrible. The price is ridiculous. The Dolby Vision issue could be resolved soon, in a year or never.. it's Sony so take your pick. Otherwise Sony's processing is immaculate and this TV will be amazing. Good luck and enjoy if you're buying one.
To be fair..98% of buyers will see DV on this TV and lose their minds.. it looks that good. Only a tiny group would notice the issues that are there. I personally love the stand but I certainly understand that others don't. Aftermarket stand/feet could fix that for most though. The price is rough.. this is true. It'll come down eventually.. LG was being ridiculous with G3 pricing at launch as well. I do hope Sony corrects the DV issues. In the meantime, I'm having a blast watching For All Mankind on this thing (in DV on ATV). It is droolworthy.
@@craiglyons2314 Trying to find a TV bench to accommodate this feet will be pretty tough. I had to wall mount my 85in Sony with similar feet because they were just a tad too long for my custom built entertainment unit (and I had it built to a larger than normal spec). Also the feet are each end doesn't look anywhere near as good as a center stand like the LG C3 which not only gives the TV the appearance of being suspended in mid air but also is great for hiding cables. But besides that, yes there are workarounds and this TV is so good that it's probably worth the slight headache of finding a solution to accommodate it. And I agree that 98% of people won't see an issue with DV but I will and I'm sure you will and we're the ones who watch TH-cam videos like this and we're the ones forking out the big bucks for this TV. I've experience of waiting and hoping for firmware updates and fixes from Sony and it's really not a fun experience. They are incredibly slow at things like this. And sometimes they ignore issues totally for the entire life of the TV.

I just purchased this TV but w/ the newly announced LG G4 in March, I’m wondering it I should cancel the order and go for the LG G4. Thoughts people?
Thanks for doing post calibration!
Of course! Thanks for watching 😄
I'm hoping this A95L comes down in price later in the year. If not the LG G4 will be the way to go for me personally.
The price and stand are what takes it out of my consideration.

Great review and spot for everything 👍
Might I suggest that instead of having "Better than XX% of TVs tested", you display the percentile of a score instead? For something like Blooming, which scores a perfect 10/10, it shows as "Better than 43% of TVs tested". I think the better statistic would be the fact that it's in the 100th percentile.
Which some things were clarified further. Like what's the VRR range? The bandwidth on the HDMI 2.1 ports? The BFI feature limitations?
We'll try to do a better job for future videos to include some of these things, but you can find all of that additional information in the review on our website www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/a95l-oled

@@RTINGSdotcom Really appreciate the detailed reply that includes the answers. Thanks!
I can't seem to find the HDMI 2.1 bandwidth though, is it 40Gbps like some of the recent LGs or the full 48Gbps like the C9?
I recently bought this TV, and I love it, all except one huge thing which I think is going to cause me to return it. The built in auto-dimming makes sports too dark for me to enjoy. I should have researched this dimming effect more before I bought it, I am surprised I do not see more people complaining about it
can’t you turn it off?
Got mine coming next week! Can't wait.
Is the Sony good for upscaling older content?
Thanks Abby. Sure is a beautiful TV.
Exactly the same problems I have with it. I might add it randomly turns itself off as well
Turns out the removal of the Firestick did correct the 2/3rds black screen issue.

Good review. Abby's great.
The feet can't move into the center at all? You HAVE to put them on the edges?

Or am I talking rubbish ?

thanks abby and rtings to tell the truth Sony A95l excel in image quality, upscaling when watching over-the-air broadcast and streaming low bit rate content, where Samsung S90C pales away extra money worth it , Samsung s90c few second good images then not that clear image annoying to watch when watching over the air broadcast and streaming low bit rate content, Also Sony has a separate button in tv remote, samsung mix atsc 3.0 tuner with atsc 1.0 and Samsung free tv program difficult to navigate remote. I’m surprised you didn’t recommend the Samsung S90C as an alternative, at least the 77 inch version. A lot of people and reviewers say it’s 90% of the S95C and it’s a good deal cheaper, doesn’t suffer the issues the One Connect box brings. I am sure the A95L is the best TV ever for the people that can afford it, but for $2,000-$2,500 the S90C is an incredible value, it’s the best TV I have ever owned by far.

even 48” is on the large size for most UK homes. baffled it’s not widespread since becoming possible.
The WORST decision Sony made for this new model is using a FULL WIDTH stand! Seriously, EVERYONE has to have a large enouge room for a SUPER LARGE/WIDE tv furniture to place this whole 65+ inch tv on it, ridiculous!
Could always buy aftermarket feet/stand. I've used them and they work great. @ Amazon
At least have a stand LG G3 didn't
@@craiglyons2314I went this route for an older LG that I lost the stand legs for. Cheap solution and definitely recommend it 👍. I hear yuh though.. I always love when a TV has a center stand that way u can set it up on almost anything.
Keep in mind, the s95c for example actually didn’t stand straight with its centre stand, my 55” tilted down to the right, not to mention the screen was warped in the back. Needless to say it went back and I am looking forward to the a95l… the “end of screen feet stand” mean it should at least be straight.
Agreed, the stand legs look terrible, much prefer lg oled stand designs. For a high end tv I would have hoped for a really nice stand design.
How much dimmer is the game mode in HDR on this tv?

Pretty sure the G3 is more expensive than the Samsung's? Or perhaps it should be the C3?
Ho la versione da 55”pollici, tv incredibile, ma soffre di vertical banding su immagini grigie, anche se non danno molto fastidio durante la visione normale.
So the sony bravia 8 is better than this one for gaming?
QuantumTV in shambles with this review.
Rtings, question for the team:
When a TV hdr peak highlight is different at 3%, vs at 10%., let's say 500 nit difference, what do you set your hdr game calibration to?
Don't bother calibrating HDR, leave it off it's junk tech.

Hello thank you.ya really awesome.i love Sony. Happy new year.
How is the bass in the sound? Is it okay for a 4m × 4.5m sitting room,if I have to get this in a 65inches then I won't have the money for a soundbar.

The best tv to buy
the problem is this tv is insanely pricey !
Best TV ever
Not sure who this TV is for in some ways. Best at low content like cable (who still uses this?), and has a deal-breaking amount of HDMI 2.1 ports. Better they invested in fixing that over the always mediocre speakers on TVs.
So you’ll spend a considerable amount on a TV that’s the best sure, but is also stuck in the past. Very strange.
So theres a camera on top of the tv? Can it be removed? If not no thanks
Yes. I used it for a week and then got rid of it. Pretty much useless and I‘m not going to have a camera on a TV connected to Internet ,just as a security precaution. There’s also a physical sliding cover and I think also a physical on/off camera switch next to the ports on the back side.
@@marekgrundel You got rid of the tv or the camera?
Out of curiosity to whoever from RTIngs see’s this comment which one do you like more G3 or S95C

Ridiculous compared to what? The samsung S90c? With the worst built quality I've seen in a TV in a decade?
Its like having new eyes. If you can afford it buy it!
