The more I re-watch friends the more dislike her.
She repeatedly interferes in Chandler's and Monica's relationship.
      Examples
Claiming she can do better but how great it is for him.
Introducing Monica to the so-called "soulmate" in front of Chandler.
The London story again forced by Phoebe. Why did Chandler need to know? Of course it would hurt. Because it completely changes their history.
She yelled at Chandler when he was talking about his name and the bullying.
'Yeah! Kids are never bullied for their namss.'
But no she screamed it's just because of him.
Continually questioning his sexuality. When you consider the abuse by Chandler's father it's even worse.
      Writing about their relationship.
Claiming he wouldn't get the job based off his interview.
      There is more.

Yeah . She did a lot of things to sabotage the OG couple . Monica ran into Richard when she was going to eat , they chatted for a few minutes, had their sandwiches and left . She was planning to tell Chandler after their anniversary was over , but Phoebe blabbed and said it in a way to make Chandler suspicious. The writers just had to add drama by turning Phoebe into a jerk .

@@subratanandy2142 I have a personal theory for why these changes were made. These changes to Phoebe's character happened around Season 5. This was also the same time that Joey became a lot dumber and more stupid then he was in the earlier seasons. I'm guessing that the writers didn't want to have 2 idiot characters and decided to change Phoebe to be the mean girl of the group

💯, it's like they all thought that Chandler was inferior to Monica and that there was no way she could be so in love with him, seemed as though they would've been on board with Monica and Joey being a couple while Chandler just be the extra. Joey in this episode actually cared about Chandlers feelings n he made it right with him but it should've been Phoebe the 1 to apologize to Chandler along with Monica, the writers made it seem like Joey was in the wrong when he had no clue whatsoever along with Chandler. During the episode of Phoebe marrying Mike she was ready to leave Chandler completely out of the wedding (along with Ross) which was just F'd up when Chandler had her fully involved in his wedding to Monica since they were as it seemed all best friends, she only settled for Chandler walking her down the isle bc she didn't have a dad to do it, had her dad been involved Chandler would've sat the wedding out while Ross would've still been in it (think he was assigned to walk a dog down the isle or something), seems like Chandler would've been better off staying in Yemen smh 😂

@WhoCaresHo People are mad at Phoebe because no one asked her about it. Did Monica lie? Yes. But she's the one who should be talking about it, not Phoebe. Also, Phoebe, especially in recent seasons, is more often rude than honest. I worked with a girl who covered up rudeness with honesty. She bullied me and other girls for our weight and appearance, and then whined when someone was angry at her and said, "I was just being honest!". There is always the right time and way to tell the truth, and Phoebe rarely uses them. That's why honest people are bad guys sometimes.

Most of these so-called Friends 'fans' have biases and don't remember storylines, and some just lie. The FACT is Ross was the kindest friend. He was&often is really underappreciated because exactly, many people don't even remember storylines on this show&have biases. Ross kissed Joey to help him get the acting job, he drove to help the others when they were out of gas in the middle of nowhere( and by the way, I think they were really bad friends to leave Ross alone. You could see how hurt he was when he was at Carol's. One of them should have stayed with him).
He skipped Discovery Channel shoot to take care of Rachel when she had a fractured rib and bought Joey that infamous fake dog. He took care of Marcel, talked his ex-wife back into getting married, and gave her away at the wedding when her own family had abandoned her.
He offered to loan Monica money when she was broke and back at their childhood house he offered up some of his own childhood memorabilia so she wouldn't get upset that hers was ruined, he got the Sting tickets for Phoebe and this bike of course( the most wholesome episode). He also tried to help Phoebe with her relationship with Mike, in the one with Vikram.
He was so kind to that cookie-selling girl, he let Rachel win at poker even though he is so competitive, in fact throughout the show, he did everything for Rachel.
He ended segregation in the museum cafeteria and went to sit with Joey.
He agreed to not date anyone while Rachel was pregnant in order to be there for her completely and took Emily out when they first met, so Rachel could go out with Joshua.
When Emily asked him to not see Rachel anymore he was gonna leave the group so Rachel wouldn't have to even though he had known the others longer while Rachel was trying to get Phoebe to leave the group with her. And I'm sure he did more things that I can't remember right now.
Sure, he had flaws like all of them, yet all other characters get a pass for their awful behavior, but not Ross- this tells you all you need to know, about how biased people are.
The fact is Ross will forever be the best friend in the group. He was always there for all of them and had their backs, and he was also often using the 'tough love' method because he cared, while so many times, the likes of Chandler, Phoebe or Rachel didn't care at all. And I don't understand the people hating on Ross because of some mistakes. No one is perfect

      @iss2075 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

I really enjoy the show, but particularly in seasons 6-8 they really demean Chandler. Constantly. Every episode. All the characters do it to him. Luckily they tone it down a bit for the last couple of seasons where he gets some episodes without being ridiculed. I really noticed this because a couple of years ago I watched the show backwards starting from the last episode going to the first, and that's when I noticed how extreme it was.
In seasons 1-5 Chandler is, yes, very flawed. He's got personality issues, commitment issues, can be awkward socially sometimes, etc. But he's still depicted as a man. Women are attracted to him. He's depicted as "quite a cool guy but a bit awkward and insecure sometimes". In season 6, particularly in 7 and 8 the depiction turns into "Chandler is a complete loser and so pathetic". In those seasons he seems like someone Monica would never have dated and Joey would never have been best friends with. I don't know why the writers did that tbh.
So yeah, this is a typical season 7 episode. The first one he can't get an erection. Then he can't smile for a picture. Then he's scared of dogs. Then he sits on Monica's dad's lap in a sauna. Then Ross tells the group Chandler kissed a guy when he was yougner. I think there's even an episode in season 7 where Monica falls asleep during sex. Then it turns out Monica didn't actually fancy him when they first met and wanted Joey. Chandler was nowhere near THIS much of a loser in the first half of the show. The writers even decide he should start wearing glasses lol.

    • @Tr_1391
      @Tr_1391 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

@iss2075 I never noticed it being quite that harsh, but you have a point. This clip doesn't show it, but when Chandler leaves to go for a walk and monica tries to stop him saying this isn't a big deal, and he whips around and says it is to me, you went looking for Batman and had to settle for Robin. That's always a heartbreaking line to me.
I also feel like it's a slap in the face to the start of Monica and Chandler's relationship. Up to that point we knew she was really upset that night and Chandler comforted her and it turned into something more. But in this episode we find out that Chandler comforted her that night and she went looking for Joey to get her rocks off. And yeah, you're right. The writers didn't know how to dig out of that hole. So they just swept it under the rug.

Part of this fandom is absolutely disgusting, biased, hateful, and hypocritical.
But what is worse, many of them seem to not understand they are watching a sitcom, not serious drama or science, and they literally whine about why some jokes were made or smth was written this way or that way when it's all written this way for pure comedy. The writers of sitcoms literally go through every little word of dialog to write a particular joke/ comical situation. So many, especially younger fans don't get it or act like jerks who don't get it.

So it's interesting to point out here that people always go on and on about Rachel or Ross being jealous etc yet here Chandler is actually pretty ridiculous with his jealous reaction, and more than Ross ever was with Mark. Because Mark was the stranger who actually, for real was a threat to Ross and Rachel's relationship, and later it turned out Mark went after Rachel and wanted to date her, and in fact, Mark did go out with Rachel on one date.
While here Monica is simply saying it was her intention to go for Joey at first, but it never happened, and she was and is also sure it would never work out with Joey, and she was so happy that she found Chandler there, not Joey. So there was never any threat or even reason for Chandler to react like this. And yet, of course, people don't talk about Chandler at all. and I actually would never want them to, I want people to understand the humanity of these characters, but I'm just mentioning this to once again demasked the insane hypocrisy of some people in this fandom, towards Ross.

you are 100% right. I see this all the time too - all of these characters had flaws, acted badly, or made mistakes, yet no one ever calls out Chandler or Joey for it, or very rarely, and at the same time, people call out Ross for the same thing or lesser, in fact.

Chandler's reaction is not outlandish at all. It does hurt a person knowing they were the secondary option. It's a totally realistic reaction, if I were in his shoes I would call it off. It would be childish, and over dramatic. I would call it off nonetheless because I couldn't take being the secondary option.

@ya5526 I agree. Chandler's anger was completely justified here. Joey is always sought out, goes out with numerous women and is highly experienced in sex.

An initial reaction like this is obviously justified. Which is expected and infact why Monica didn't tell him in the first place.. The difference is that Chandler and Monica were mature about it and he let it go.. Ross never let go of his jealousy..

He thinks he's the second choice of the women he's about to marry.
I'd say his reaction is normal

How was Monica the worst character?

No . Monica is very loving, and as neurotic as she is , she is very understanding and is willing to beat a few people up if they hurt her family. Monica and Chandler's relationship saved the show .

People are overhyping Chandler's character just because he's the funny one. They say monica doesn't deserve chandler, ignoring all the pettiness and insecurity Chandler had throughout the show.

Monica wasn't the worst, but due to poor writing, she went from being kind, sassy, and a little neurotic to having OCD be her WHOLE personality. The writers essentially made her a caricature of herself.

I actually always wanted a couple to be Monica and Joey, not Monica and Chandler. I don't care if it's an unpopular opinion, but for me, Matthew Perry and Courtney Cox never had good chemistry. The 'chemistry' between Mondler was forced purely by the writing, and the writing of them was too unrealistic anyway. Too sugary. They never had any serious conflict or challenge, only minor spats. Even when the writers at the very end of the show gave them the 'we can't have biological children' problem, they wrote it like it was nothing. They gave this topic maybe 3 episodes and the reaction of Chandler and Monica was simply 'Oh, that's sad but we are gonna adopt, the end'.
If any other couple on this show was given so much time being a stable relationship without real hard times, they all will be proclaimed as the 'best couples' because playing a happy couple all the time is easy and always sympathetic to the audience. And because I prefer a more realistic approach, for me Mondler was never great or the best couple.
And also, in the flashback episode when they showed us how Monica first met Joey (when she invited him over for lemonade) - the scene perfectly presents the pure beauty that was Courtney/Monica and Matt Le Blanc/Joey. In that one short scene, they had insane physical chemistry and way better chemistry than Perry/Chandler and Cox/Monica ever had!

I find this comment really excellent and interesting. Never thought about it myself, but now when you mention it, it's true that Mondler was written incredibly dull and unrealistic at times, and also it's true Joey and Monica looked very hot together! Also remember that in the blackout episode at the start of the show, Phoebe mentions that Monica had a crush on Joey when he first moved in across the hall.

I don't know if you are new friends fan or not but Mondler was something starts because of 1998 london audience . Mondler wasn't writers plan . They continue that story because that time audience loved Mattew and Cox chemistry . This show ends almost 20 years ago .
