Ridgebacks are excellent dogs. I had one. They don't bark a lot, and are quietly protective of their family. Mine broke a tooth off in a burglar and got a titanium implant.
There's an old saying, "A good mechanic's car is the worst one on the road. They never have time to fix their own." Well you sure shoot that saying all to heck. Like always, another quality repair/upgrade.
What I love about Ray is that he has a brain and uses it very well. Experience, and common sense makes for an amazing Master Mechanic, World Class Technician.
This is the first time I ever felt shafted watching your videos. See what I did there? Nice and SHINY. Smoooth too. Thanks for the entertaining, fun, and educational videos Ray.
We lost our Roadie in January, she was the best dog we have ever had, she was only 10 when she died. Loyal, smart, and loves children (they are delicious, LoL). They are some of the best property protection dogs there are. You will love them, and they will love you back!
Two piece drive shaft has one huge advantage over the single. With the direct output coming out of the transition always kept flat you dont get angular stresses on the gearbox. Pretty as it is, I think it will give your gearbox a lot of unexpected stresses.
I had a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I named her Copper. She was the best dog I ever had. She loved the water and was very protective of me and my son. I miss her so much. Great dogs and they can be very mean to other dogs who are not part of the pack. Your family becomes part of the pack.
Try a Bull mastiff, at 130 lbs on average they are very intelligent obedient, gentle giants, but they will defend you to death. They are scary dogs for pretty much everybody they have a very large mouth and teeth of steel. But again they are very gentle.
And to think, this ALL started with two craptastic Ranchero shocks we all told him he'd hate, but he installed them anyway, and it just snowballed from there...
I was looking for that and it appears that there is a thin film of red grease on the sealing surface. Almost transparent. That's about all that is needed.
When the boys were young and just started helping in the garage, I had them shake paint. I told them them the paint was ready to spray when the can stopped rattling. So shake hard and fast 😅
My son had a Ridgeback mix. She was incredibly smart and agile. She would invent tricks to entertain herself. One time she reached under and grabbed her tail and rolled like a wheel.

Back in the 80's had to rebuild 79 bronco shafts. This truck had 435 new process with 205 gear drive transfer. Driveline services in Cali' built a more robust driveline. The truck had seen regular 4 wheel engagement for years as the woman I bought it from had to go 4 wheel everyday to get home.
Regarding a new lift, I remember you once said that tools don't cost money, they make money. I ain't sayin', I'm just sayin'. And hello again Al Gor-Rhythm.
Hey Ray, You need to wire that traffic light so it's Green to begin. Then as you approach and inch in closer it goes Yellow. Then when you ace the landing it goes Red to stop! Haha
I did this 40 years ago to an F-250, steel one piece. The only problem is if you put a heavy load in the truck the shaft doesn’t have the same spline movement and will hit and destroy the transmission tail piece. But it seemed like a good idea to me too.
The white stuff on the pinion splines is teflon sealant that keeps gear oil from leaking thru the splines. You'll probably clean it off and not put more on because I've seen you do it before. It's weird that such a good mechanic as yourself doesn't know this.

I just went the opposite way; I took out the aluminum rear driveshaft and put in a steel one,,, on an S10 4WD LS extended cab. $350 with shipping. 😎 Yes, it saved me money too. I was about as happy as you were with your new getup, maybe even happier.
when you were removing that bracket, there was a zip tie hanging down on the left of the screen, made me think that the crossmember had a crack and i had to do a double take.
Now that there are two joints instead of three, when replacement of a joint is req'd how do you do put the new one in and hold it in place? GM used the same method back in the 70's, it didn't go well, the shaft had to be replaced just because of one bad u joint.
I like how you tried to avoid 'adult' comments on getting the shaft. The good news, you have a much better driveshaft assembly. The bad news is that instead something in the transmission or diff will.
Where'd you buy that shaft from? Doesn't the U.S. Navy use that as a propeller shaft from a destroyer or submarine? You were right, this was a very good video.
I never thought about driveline balance until I had one that wasn't balanced on a Buick. A trip to the driveline shop for a balance made a HUGE difference.
Ok I continued watching the video and now approve your plan with my retired inactive PE stamp! Well done. The cross bracket is indeed a weight suspension function. The curvy cross bar does all the stiffening function and the small increase in flexibility is a good thing. It may also do a better safety job in a side crash. People who do willy nilly mods to structures of vehicles do so to their peril if there is a crash.
Nice Driveshaft, looks Heavy Duty and really well made! Might want to look at clearances after you fill the aux fuel tank and put some weight in the bed the first time.
I'm sorry, but there's a reason, long driveshafts are split. Eliminating this, is opening up a Pandora's box... I remember, many years ago, replacing a 2 piece driveshaft, with a single driveshaft, (Because the replacement couldn't be found) and it caused all kinds of issues.
Less rotational mass should make the truck a bit more peppy off the line 🤔 Plastic holding the cups in place 😮 It will be interesting to see the longevity of that setup.

Should get yourself a few cans of Fluid Film and hit that rusty stuff under your truck. Our Buddy Eric I swears built Shaft looks good, I did that to my 72 C10 I had. Seemed quiet and smoother
Very nice upgrade. One of my beefs with GM is the driveline. On the Malibu, CTS and Camaro, they eliminated the U joint at the differential and put a rubber flex disc in its place. The U joints are roughly $30 but that disc is around the $300 mark.
Who wver did the welding of joints on the drive shaft and U joints dropped absolute dimes! Both ends are all but flawless, a true artist. I will be very curious to hear opinions of its performance when hauling heavy. The new fur babies are absolutely beautiful, and hope they will be trained to eat intruders lol.
