Train crossing track during deep screening of ballast

  • Settlements in railway track when train crossing it during deep screening of ballast. we do this deep screening after 10 years or when 500 GMT traffic crosses our section. it is generally done using BMC machine but near the bridges it is done manually. so basically we take out our ballast ( patthar) from the track and clean it using 20mm standard sieve. and again put that back under the sleeper. we should make sure that the depth of ballast below sleeper should be atleast 300 mm (12 inch) or 350 mm if you can provide. deep screening is done without taking a block from office means trains can move from that track while this work but with 20 kmph speed. workers are advised to put wooden blocks under sleepers and rails so excessive deflection can not occur there. other wise our rails may get fractured.

Yes... Wooden blocks are provided to place below sleepers so our rail doesn't show much deflection and thus we can mitigate any kind of accident.
