    "writing a children's book" has been on my bucket list for like 12 years, ever since my daughter was a toddler. I had never heard of KDP, self-publishing, or anything of the sort. This is awesome. I dont even care if I make a best seller, I am so excited to check it off the list!

      I'd still get everything copyrighted first. $55 for one, $100 for an upload of 10 to the government, full works and takes about 6 months to hear back. If you post your book first and don't copyright it, someone can copy it, Copyright right it, then sue you for stealing their work.
      A woman had posted hundreds of free stock photos online, didn't Copyright any of them. She noticed a company had her works as well and was claiming to own them, she took the company to court and she lost because even though she posted it, the company had legal paperwork from the government saying it was their work even though it was her work.
      Always copyright your stuff.

    As an art student, the biggest issue I can see with having art that is compiled is the inside looks less cohesive, the page with both the main character and the other bird, you can tell they're in a different style. With picture books the kids reading are unlikely to be concerned, but cohesive visuals DO contribute to books selling well. In this case I'd say they're close enough, but its something to keep in mind were you to decide you wanted a more specific look. Its very cute and I think it'll be well liked by all the kids that read it, and is defiantly a solid resource to use, lots of respect for having such a solid idea and following right on through!

    • @Apricotblossom5555

      I think if you lean into that, you can mix completely different art styles and make it look good.

    • @Marina-to4rh
      @Marina-to4rh ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Apricotblossom5555 that's true! if you lean into it properly, make it look intentional it can look good, which would be a different approach. that sort of idea wouldn't appeal to all readers, but no art approach will, and that would certainly help it stand out

    Great information! One thing I'll add is to recognize the learning or story concept(s) in your book and which is the main one and what age group would be appropriate for each concept. For your book, the main concept is learning animal sounds. Children ages 1-3 learn about what sounds animals make and they learn the names of animals. I would say a secondary concept is the journey to find her quack (meeting/greeting different animals and possible emotions Lolly feels along the way). Greeting others, introducing yourself, and recognizing/naming emotions are concepts that are learned between ages 2-4.
    Another example is "Where is Green Sheep?" Although the sentences are minimal, there's tons of concepts packed in like color recognition and learning about spacial words (on, in, behind), description words (big, red, tall), and opposite words (big vs small). These concepts are all learned between 2-4 years old.
    While it's not necessary to have this background knowledge, I do think it's helpful to understand and could help the author zone into who will be buying their book and for what purpose.

    Something to think about in using AI or stock art is that it can make it hard to use any of the art for merchandising. If the children's book were to really take off. The US copyright office came out with a statement that AI generated images are not copyrighted because it's a computer making these images, not a person. Food for thought.

    I am 31, SAHM a Mum of 5 kids, I have never had a job. I am highly creative, anything you can make using your hands, I most likely will be able to do it. Not to boast or anything. 😅
    I am solely relying on Centrelink. My husband works 2 jobs but still not enough to support our family at all, just enough to pay his personal bills. I want to start my own business and using my hobbies to earn income. I have many ideas, and books are one avenue I want to go.
    I recently realised I have inattentive ADHD, going to get my diagnosis soon, everything makes sense now as to why I have struggled to accomplish anything. Hopefully medication can help me. But keep my super creative mind.
    Since I was a child, I have wanted to illustrate storybooks. And many other things too. I said to my 10yo Daughter, if she writes a book, I will draw it for her, then print it out at Big W. So this is our little project we can work on together. ❤ Anyway, Today I am just looking up on TH-cam to learn a bit about how to make and sell illustrated books 📚 and found your video. Just subbed.😊

      If you want to be traditional published (through a publishing company) then you'll need to send out letters to publishers asking if you can send them your book for consideration for publishing. If you want to self-publish through Amazon, then you do this through KDP. You will get the book all set up according to Amazon's requirements (all info for this is on their support page) and them publish it to Amazon.

    Have you heard that you can’t use Canva Pro images for comercial use? I keep hearing warnings from several people that teach about publishing and making money with printables that you can’t use Canva pro clipart for products-you can get in trouble. Others encourage using them. And you used them in your book. I’m so confused. Even when I read the comercial rights on Canva I feel like I’m missing something. Have you heard about this?

    • @MyFreedomEmpire
      @MyFreedomEmpire  ปีที่แล้ว

      When I created the book in Canva a year or so ago, the license said you can use Canvo Pro images in commercial products as long as the image wasn't the main focus of the selling point of the product (or something along those lines anyway) I used a few small images that I put into the backgrounds of my pages and too fill in some of the space. The images I used were not the main focus of the book. Also, you can't continue to use the images if you cancel your Canva subscription.

      @lindas215 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MyFreedomEmpire Thank you so much for your reply and helping me make sense of this. I’m going to have to look into it more and see if the license changed since a year ago before I publish. Question about the printing of the book. It looks like there are many pages that meet the spine that have a rather large white space. How does Amazon do the printing? do I have to create the first and last page together, then second and second to last page and so on because of printing across two pages and then folded in the middle or just keep creating new pages to desgin and not worry about that? I wouldn't want the story to be all over the place due to the page order.

    Great video and such adorable illustrations!- Thanks so much for sharing this info! Just wondering about the rules with using images from Canva to sell products on Amazon? Are there any legal licensure issues with using those images for a product to sell?

    • @MyFreedomEmpire
      @MyFreedomEmpire  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!! Though you should check all licenses for every image to make sure you can use it, in general you can use the graphic as long as it isn't the main feature, you can use to it create something else. (If that makes sense). So if I took a graphic from Canva and used it as the main thing on the cover and it was the selling point and what the whole product was about, I can't do that but using it like I did, where I took a little flower and added it to one page which included lots of other graphics in a book that has over 40 pages, then thats ok. Hope that makes sense.

Or do you mean you'd basically have to use the duck all by itself completely unaltered (you've basically created new artwork through the layering) for that to be an issue? Thank you this video was very helpful

    So the fact that you mentioned funny, I home school both my kids and I realized that when I teach to make them laugh they remember it better. If I say it in funny ways or make them laugh somehow in the process they love it. So if you are writing a book you want to be educational but sell mixing the two is still doable and should be done more. Kids need to know life is funny and learning is enjoyable.

    I don’t mean to be rude, but your book looks really bad in my opinion. The fact that you used the same duck cutout in the same pose on several pages looks like the photoshop chop job it is. I mean I guess it’s for babies, but I as an artist I would never buy this for my kid. If you’re dead set on not bothering to learn how to draw super simple illustrations then maybe try learning how to use AI image generators like midjourney. You’ll get much better results, but you have to learn how to get consistent character results across pages.

    • @ninjasteph9561

      As a writer/artist and aspiring illustrator, the whole concept of replacing a professional with what essentially amounts to clip art makes my skin crawl. I’m not for Ai generated either though. Granted I was a writer first and started learning to draw years ago with the intention of illustrating. I mean, good for her for finding something that works for her, but I’m praying the harder road I chose is more fruitful and produces more artistic results.
