Eric Lin I didn’t get the mk7 , I did buy the mk5 when it came out. I paid 23k. I’m in the USA. 2017 has been getting discounts from various reports. Never pay sticker for a GTI
Love this hatch. Interior is very premium quality, the sound system is outstanding, sound is very insulated inside compared to other small hatches, it gets 34 MPG on the highway with a turbo charged engine. Gosh, I love it. A reallly fun daily driver, and funner to drive on the highway.
I have the “perfect” MK7, a 2017 Sport. It has the performance pack, lighting pack and keyless entry. Picture a 2018 SE without the sunroof. Based on the comments around the new infotainment screen I am just as glad to “make do” with MIB2. The extra screen size seems to have gone into taking away the buttons on the side. Love all the new 2018 colors though....and the 6/72 warranty.
Solid and clean review man. You made a few points about the Autobahn trim I didn't know about (Self Dimming Rearview & More seat adjustments). I'm pretty psyched to get the Autobahn trim since I really like the Fender audio and the Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS). I'm also somewhat skeptical about the new Infotainment systems lack of tactical buttons. The bigger screen will be nice but I think the functionality might suffer. I'm not really interested in all the forward collision warning, lane assist technology but it might be cool. I just don't like the thought of surrendering my attention and becoming reliant on technology do do things I should be doing. Sounds like it might be a recipe for disaster once you get used to this and then go back to a car that doesn't have this tech.
Jason Schwartz also 2018 marks the beginning of their much better 6 year 72000 mile bumper to bumper warranty which is leading them to discount the leftover 2017s even more.
Great review! Didn't even know cargurus did reviews haha. One thing you forgot to mention was the huge warranty that the 2018 has over the 2017. Paying extra for an 18 right now is really worth it.
Great review. I love the small touches of showing and explaining the little storage spaces and breaking down the package differences better than VW’s own site does.
@@Tigerex966 negotiate man. Never buy sticker or "no brainer pricing". I was told 31k for new 2018 autobahn and got them down to 26k + $3000 for extended warranty. You can do it just be firm and don't get intimidated. They will play the meet my manager game.
Y Brent it should be updated very soon. My guess the reason it hasn't been updated is to have customers clear out the 2017 Golfs that dealers have in inventory before orders can be placed for the 2018 Golfs.
I'm wondering too. I'd been waiting since the debut of the Mk7.5 last December 2016. It's almost one year of waiting and I still can't "build my own" GTI at VW USA website because the pre-facelift Mk7 is still the one featured.😔
Melvin Lloyd Casamayor I thought I was the only one man, been waiting forever. Got the chance to test drive one from the dealer a couple days ago but no Autobahns for sale yet
I live near VW HQ in Herndon, VA and I went in there to ask when it would be coming to the website and they said it was confidential information... employees only. I'd say they're waiting for the entire Golf lineup to make it to dealers before putting it on the website; right now the GTI is the only one at dealerships.
A GTI in let's say Germany starts at around 38 000$. And you need to add a number of things to get it even with the US SE trim. And a car with the digital cockpit that requires the most expensive Nav system to go in, costs around 45 000$ in Europe. Don't get me started on BMWs and other premium brands, you will be amazed how cheap you are getting them.
I love u guys car gurus my dad recently purchased a Maserati quatroporte and u guys said if it was a high price or low I will ofcourse I will buy a car from u guys again
Love the GTI but it is technologically behind the times. The next generation will have to have features like the Mercedes Benz A Class' MBUX and screen to stay relevant with young buyers
Aidan Anchaya the manual isn't great in this car, does not pop up like it should from reverse, you will end up feeling like you have to yank it up to be sure you go to 1st and aren't still in reverse. The dsg is also much stronger if you might do a tune down the road.
VW really needs to give the SE trim dual zone auto climate control. It is ridiculous that a 31000 dollar car still has manual AC. How much more would it really add, I mean cmon.
The thing that bugs me is there’s no liner in the glove box - it’s rattley hard plastic, where the TDI I had had felt lining there and in door bins etc....this kind of differentiation from the R is really stupid.
Love Like a Hurricane ok. Good call. Good call. I’ve had two Toyotas in my life. Never had to fix anything ever. Planning on getting this as my next. It’s good to know.
The GTI I bought 15 years ago was $26,000 and it didn't come with NEARLY the amount of features or performance this base model has today. Not bad for 15 years worth of inflation...
I'm so tired of hearing hard plastic versus soft touch, bet the majority of people do not fondle or ogle the soft touch surfaces. Most drivers just touch the steering wheel, shift handle and radio knobs. Soft armrests are a concern..........................................
There are lots of "inadvertent" touch points in a car. For instance, plenty of drivers (especially taller ones) rest their knee against the side of the center console while driving. Soft touch plastic at this point is much appreciated.
Shitty review. He compared the regular Focus interior which isn't even the competitor of the gti se. The Ford Focus ST is the gti se competitor. Look up the interior of the Ford Focus ST and it easily surpasses the gti interior.
Focus ST interior a little nicer but Its obviously looking to the boy racer demographic. Nowhere near the quality of VW. My issue with the review are the prices given. He said the Golf R is just a little more at $35-40,000 but I never seen an R for less than $42 to 43,000. A manual Autobahn can be had for a little over $32K in many dealerships. Nobody will budge on the Rs pricing because they are limited and everyone wants one. That's nearly a $10,000 dollar difference in the real world.
NEVER AGAIN....VW would NOT honor there NEW vehicle Warranty 3yrs or 36k on my 2016 VW GTI autobahn it needed a new clutch after 25k this part was defective ...so beware of the VW extra warranty...NEVER AGAIN
getting my 18 SE with plaid cloth, 6 speed dark iron blue on Monday . 😊
Nice choice on the color! That's the same color I want to get!
Car is kind of expensive. Will pay 25k for the SE
Do you mind sharing the price you got?
Eric Lin I didn’t get the mk7 ,
I did buy the mk5 when it came out. I paid 23k. I’m in the USA. 2017 has been getting discounts from various reports. Never pay sticker for a GTI
How has it been?
Love the fact that you can now get the plaid cloth in the SE trim!
I love the business like interior switch gear, and the updated front end treatment for 2018.

Good job. I have had the car for 2 months and you pointed out things I never heard of or knew about. Thanks

GTIs go for way under MSRP making a good value and amazing value. Closeout 2017 new GTI S models were just going for less than $20,000 MSRP
And considering you can add IS38 for a few thousand bucks and make it way faster than the R justifies this even further.
Jason Schwartz also 2018 marks the beginning of their much better 6 year 72000 mile bumper to bumper warranty which is leading them to discount the leftover 2017s even more.
Admiral Ackbar what is IS38? Thanks...
Got my 17 SE for 25k a few months ago for my first ever GTI. I fell in love with it immediately.
Wow! I should have waited. I got my 2017 GTI S in 2016 for $31,000. That's with a discount.
I wish I could have gotten the plaid seating in my 2017 SE, great looking seats
Great review! Didn't even know cargurus did reviews haha. One thing you forgot to mention was the huge warranty that the 2018 has over the 2017. Paying extra for an 18 right now is really worth it.

2018 se is what I reeeeally wanna buy. 31k is a little pricey though..
Vince it is over priced. It’s better to wait for the car to depreciate or get discounts
Lol I got my gti Autobahn 2018 for 31.5k out the door. Wouldn't call it over priced
where, it starts around $35k

what location are you in?
superb price.
Fantastic review; looks like western mass. also kudos for the PMT cameo
Bro you need to blink.
DEETEEOHBEE 😂
omg this comment made me LOL
His a hitman.
What's the aforementioned hot hatchback competition from Subaru ?
The GTI Autobahn DSG model is not worth a penny over $30K period. That’s the exact price I paid for mine back in Nov 2016 ;-)
This week the Golf GTI, next week it's axe and body-bag special
dont why vw website still dont have 2018 golf information
Y Brent it should be updated very soon. My guess the reason it hasn't been updated is to have customers clear out the 2017 Golfs that dealers have in inventory before orders can be placed for the 2018 Golfs.
VW USA does not have the best marketing

Very good review. You have talent.
Apple CarPlay with iOS 12 or greater also have Google and Waze maps....get with it guys.
There is no virtual cockpit gauge offer in top trim? Why does VW always downgrade their U.S models like it's second class citizens?
A GTI in let's say Germany starts at around 38 000$. And you need to add a number of things to get it even with the US SE trim. less power too, no cupholder cover, etc.
The MK7.5 doesn't seem to have a driver under seat cubby?? Sad.
I love u guys car gurus my dad recently purchased a Maserati quatroporte and u guys said if it was a high price or low I will ofcourse I will buy a car from u guys again
Car Gurus Does Video Test Drives, Damn...
Ya no fender audio I need my tunes when I'm going 80 mph thround Muholland on my way to the beach ha ha
No sport package anymore ?
Love the GTI but it is technologically behind the times. The next generation will have to have features like the Mercedes Benz A Class' MBUX and screen to stay relevant with young buyers
Love this car
Should I get a manual or DSG? I'm worried about traffic and stuff.

Does anyone think the AWD on the Golf R make it worth enough? Or is the FWD on the GTI just fine?
Jack Pistone depend if there's snow where you live
I agree on the analog climate controls, but the analog speedometers just look ugly and outdated.
I like the new head and tail lights but for the deal i got on my 17 Autobahn i can live without lol
this guy got what the lsd does wrong..... yo fire him
nothing big change.. if you can grab a 2017 for a good deal. thats better
VW really needs to give the SE trim dual zone auto climate control. It is ridiculous that a 31000 dollar car still has manual AC. How much more would it really add, I mean cmon.
those are really stupid things to ask for.... plus they add weight..... the base gti is really light which makes it feel so darty
Nooooo. Buying a gti is buying practicality and fun. Power seats are definitely practical and should be included on a 30,500 dollar car
Geoffrey Wan you don’t want electric seats in Gti. They will inevitably break and will be a maintenance item if you keep the car for life.
The thing that bugs me is there’s no liner in the glove box - it’s rattley hard plastic, where the TDI I had had felt lining there and in door bins etc....this kind of differentiation from the R is really stupid.

dude you must be tall/big because you make the GTI look like a toy lmao
Like it
$26k for a base GTI is a bit pricey tbh. Would like to see it start at $22k.
The GTI I bought 15 years ago was $26,000 and it didn't come with NEARLY the amount of features or performance this base model has today. Not bad for 15 years worth of inflation...
It's a VW Golf GTI, not just a "Volkswagen GTI". There are other cars also sold with a GTI badge.
wtf why didnt you even blink once?

Is a VW GTI the same thing as a VW Golf GTI?
Yep,it's a more powerful version of the Golf.
Yes, it's pretty much the same thing. All VW has a sport version. The VW Golf has GTI, VW Jetta has the GLI.
Every other "hot hatch" is merely a pretender!
The only thing it will surpass the competition with us poor reliability

ya he didn't know what he was talking about, so thus I don't like his review because of his false facts about the cars.

i agree a clutch at 25k is crazy but aside from that, any other issues?
Clutch will never be covered. It’s a wear item and they’ll always go back to that. Only manufacturer who would is BMW
this guy is weird..... get rid of him
over priced
