  • In this video I remove the left seat and left rear carpet on my 1998 1999 BMW Z3 2.8i Roadster E36 5-speed manual gearbox in Arctic Silver.
I have two wiring issues to resolve: 1) Running a new wire between the speed sensor in the differential and the instrument housing / speedometer. 2) Resolving a problem with the convertible roof due to a wire having been cut and an additional ignition live feed having been provided from the radio wiring. The second electrical fault took time to fathom and I used the correct wiring diagram to diagnose this. The hood should only operate from the switch with the brake pedal pressed but this was not the case with this car. I ran wires into the existing loom, under the carpet. I also removed the centre console and resolved a fit/finish issue with some of the fake wood trim inserts, before cleaning the console and refitting.

I wish you could take a look at my car I don’t even know what some of these wires the previous owners ran are for!! 😂😂😂

Interesting watch as I need to remove the sill kick plate on mine, but unfortunately, you skipped that bit - is it just a case of pulling it upwards to release the clips? Also, I think I mentioned it before, but you have the hardtop fitting kit installed, which can sell for circa £500 if you don't intend using it. Look forward to seeing you remove the scuttle panel 👍

The sill kick plate is pretty easy. There are three clips that slide into a channel on the trim, one at each end and the middle. A trim removal tool can be used to pry these from the sill and they stay behind in the trim.
