The same people who demanded that kids shouldn’t have to wear masks for a pandemic because the psychological damage it would have on kids are perfectly fine surrounding schools with armed military style security.

In their mind the fact that those security services would most likely also harass black students at a disproportionate rate is probably just an additional benefit of that system

In the end they only care for their own desires and nothing else, and they got here by desperate politicians selling the freedoms of others to buy votes.
But at this rate the second civil war is around the corner as the point of no return is quickly approaching.
Though this is likely to be embraced as the far-right see their shrinking voter numbers and would rather strike now than change their political platform.

Someone else pointed this out and I think its accurate; Republicans said no to access to birth control because it would encourage more sexual activity. They said no to injection safe zones because access to that would encourage more drug use. But access to guns, that apparently does not cause more gun violence....

    • @Gottenhimfella
      @Gottenhimfella 2 ปีที่แล้ว

There's plenty of irony to go around. There's no irony deficiency, for sure. For instance, the GOP thinks infants are infinitely precious, and they constitute an absolute and implacable ban machine when it comes to protecting their right to life. One tiny detail: it seems the small print must stipulate they're precious only up until they're born.
Then it's a fatalistic mass shrug from Republican legislators and gun worshippers alike, "Hey, watcha gonna do? Banning evil never works"

At the very least schools need guards outside.
Did you hear about the man who got onto a school campus and was detained by three teachers? That happened within the last 24 hours.
If school had actual security to secure school grounds, than people like that man and the Texas shooter wouldn't even had made it on school grounds.
It's obvious gun control isn't going to happen any time soon, but the least we can do is secure campuses.

One of the reasons the shooter during the Montreal Massacre at École Polytechnique in 1989 was able to corner the women in one lecture hall was because the rooms were designed with only one door. Most medium-large lecture halls now have more than one door which offer escape just as much as they offer an alternate entrance for a shooter. The correct answer is "propaganda" propelled by jingoistic and chauvinistic interests (do not confuse with "male chauvinism" specifically) and aided by the massive media presence of the US in popular culture and their retaliatory potential in terms of economic matters (i.e being unliked by the US closes a lot of doors for countries that want to create opportunities for trade and diplomacy).
So basically good PR with a hearty dose of fear of economical/literal annihilation has built up the US as the "home of the free" and a "land of opportunity" despite both monikers being severely out of date.
Also Ronda, people who are dissatisfied with their country usually try to work and improve it, they don't just leave. Or are you under the impression that people are incapable of loving something and being disappointed by it at the same time?

@@michdoogles3939 it's not the police's job to make legislation regarding the purchase and ownership of guns in this country.
A big issue with this unfortunate event is the ease that the young man got the guns, and the caliber of them. *Personal belief* --> NO CITIZEN needs a gun bigger than a pistol (certain exceptions granted to hunters obviously. And active law enforcement and military of course have access to stronger weapons) for self defense or any other reason. I understand guns can be fun, and I would like to go to a range to fire some military grade weapons sometime. HOWEVER, I personally don't need automatic weaponry in my house or for my daily life.
Normal people don't need automatic weapons, and they certainly don't need ASSAULT rifles. It's there in the name, they aren't for protection, they are for aggression.
And yes, the assailant could still have done this heinous act with a few pistols. There is no clear cut solution to end all gun violence (or any crime) by tomorrow, but there are steps we can take to hopefully minimize (to some degree) any future traumatic events. And it starts with politicians making choices better for the people and the country.

These people that do mass shootings, thats why we will die shooting at them or shooting at who comes for the guns, and thats really the majority of use validation beyond mugging and carjacking. If someone can be justifiably shot, it removes you compassion for that human, because they forfeit that compassion with the act that gets them shot. Ill say that before any Jesus, Buddha, Gandi.
