    Gosh this video made me homesick. As you were driving to look at the travel trailer I could tell exactly where you were on Hwy 95 in ID and then on 195 in WA you were about 10 miles past the turnoff to my brother's house. This has been a strange year weather wise up there so don't be too worried that it's the norm. With the La Nina weather pattern though you might be in for a snowy winter. Congrats on the trailer and Ranger!

    • @YouMeandtheFencePost
      @YouMeandtheFencePost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, we know this is not the norm. Before the trailer, we were in the full sun working with no relief from the sun except an easy up...so that made it feel 10 times worse. Now we're good with the trailer 😊

    Love watching you build your place!! Nice trailer! One suggestion? Make sure you put a tarp or something over the top of the slide in inclement weather as wind can push rain through the gasket and get inside. Love the Polaris too!! Can't wait to see more!

    Good move with the Polaris. While the don’t have a loader option (yet that I’ve seen), they are good with a plow and can do many other hauling chores a tractor isn’t designed for. Rig up a towable grader to pull around the lot when you need to level/smooth the pad or road. Simple and easy to get good/fast results
    Look for a set of tire chains and switch the winch to synthetic if it is steel.

    I really do enjoy watching these videos. My wife and I plan to do the same thing when our kids are off on their own(still in grade school😁). Right now we are on the daily grind and saving as much as we can so we can do this one day. Watching you guys motivates us to keep working towards our goals/dream. Thank you for sharing your journey!
    on another note I was also wondering did you guys get any "grief" from Idaho people moving from California? I don't know if its true but I heard sometimes that happens. What a lot people don't realize is just because we are from California does NOT mean we believe or agree with their politics or values.😁

  • @frozenjoe6313
    @frozenjoe6313 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    CONGRATULATIONS . Just a friendly suggestion. Buy 1 or 2 tons of straw or hay. Its going to get very cold since you will not have the house completed in time for winter.. Most trailers are not set up properly against winter temps, so Take the bales of cured straw or hay< which will weigh 50 to 100 pounds each> and stack them on the ground,up against the trailer, all the way around to seal and insulate. Do not block any vents. If it gets cold you will need the insulation. Also buy and fill 1 or 2 100 gallon propane tanks and keep them on site, or have a local propane company bring in and set a 250 or 500 gallon propane tank instead. of the smaller tanks .When it gets cold you will be glad you did..............

    • @YouMeandtheFencePost
      @YouMeandtheFencePost  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is genius! Would have never thought of that! Thank you! We are hoping the pole barn will be done before fall/winter hits. We will also be getting ready to install a propane tank soon. That is in the works

    • @frozenjoe6313
      @frozenjoe6313 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YouMeandtheFencePost Thanks. Its just local country tricks, and they work well. But better check with the local building inspector. I dont know if its legal
      .

    • @frozenjoe6313
      @frozenjoe6313 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its also a great idea to have a medium sized freestanding woodburning stove < not a pellet stove >included in your house build. Freestanding , not a insert or a fireplace built as part of a wall. the insert is not efficient at all,................... a freestanding stove toward the center of the room can and will heat the whole house. A insert will not.

    Might not have been the primary plan but I think that will be way better for you guys "long term" instead of the Jeep. Being more comfortable will actually be beneficial health wise for how long you guys will need to use it for. Not sure if you did but putting some support legs under the slide out will be a good idea with how long the slide will be out for. Great looking progress and it is going to be so awesome when it's all done.

    • @YouMeandtheFencePost
      @YouMeandtheFencePost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @gardenparty3288
    @gardenparty3288 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Been there done that, as have many. Suggestion. Purchase and connect the trailer to whatever sized propane tank you'll need for the house. It'll save you from lots of hassle this winter. Happy for you guys!

    • @YouMeandtheFencePost
      @YouMeandtheFencePost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we know many people have done the trailer on the property while they build, but we were trying to avoid having to do that. No worries though and propane is one the short list of things to do. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I dont know if you are set up but if the power grid goes down for any reason its a great idea to have a generator powerful enough to power your well pump, most of which are 220volts , have a specific amps to get it started running, and then a lesser amperage to continue running. I have a couple food grade 55 gallon water barrels I keep emergency potable water in. I bought mine at D and B hardware, they cost about 50 dollars each., and a little cheap hand pump makes it easy to tap the barrel watter in a clean and sanitary method. Usually generators for 220 volts have 4 wires, and if you look closely you will see there are only 3 wires coming out of the well casing., That is a issue, but there is a correct answer. Make certain you know how to hook the wires up to the well pressure regulator.... Its important, and has to be done correctly every time. Its not a good thing to destroy the well pump, especially during a emergency... and with a couple 55 gallon drums of water you would only need to run your well maybe once every 3 days. . not all day, all the time .Bear in mind the military states 1 gallon of water is enough water for 1 person for 1 day., and that is bare minimum. not only for drinking but hygiene, washing etc. People really don't need a lot to get along in the advent of a emergency, clean potable water, any required medications like insulin, heart meds , etc.food,. The basics. Candles , hurricane type oil lamp, and the modern oil lamps are much brighter light than the very basic old style . kerosene lanterns . and books.. Lots and lots of books. . I figure a acoustic guitar is mandatory also...........
