We're Back | Update on our Property // V1E20
Welcome back to You, Me, and The Fence Post! After a year-long hiatus, we've finally returned to our beloved property in the heart-stirring hills of North Central Idaho. Join us in this emotional journey as we revisit the land that Daniel and I tirelessly worked to transform by our own hands - a labor of love marked with our blood, sweat, and tears.
In this much-anticipated update, experience the profound sense of satisfaction we felt when we could enjoy the simple yet significant comforts of home - flushing a toilet, taking a warm shower, and washing dishes, thanks to the sewer upgrades we installed ourselves.
We share a heartfelt 'thank you' to our incredible neighbors, whose kindness helped prepare our homestead for our return during the festive season. While we busied ourselves with odds and ends around the property, the true essence of our visit was in the tranquility of sitting back, savoring the downtime, and reconnecting with friends and neighbors.
Though we were there for only four days, those precious moments rekindled our desire to embrace the land as our (semi) permanent sanctuary.
To our amazing community, we owe you a world of gratitude for your unwavering support and interest in our journey. You've been with us through silence and celebration, and we promise not to let another year pass before sharing our next chapter.
Thank you for watching, and stay tuned for more adventures from "You, Me, and The Fence Post"! Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe to join us on this incredible ride.

We Can't Do This Anymore // V1E19
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
After taking a break to spend some time with family for a couple of weeks, we are well on our way to finishing the studio. In four weeks, all electrical and plumbing is complete with the passing of both inspections. We picked up our wood burning stove as soon as we got back and had it installed. It was great to use it while putting up insulation and drywall to keep us warm. Our propane tank was...
Finishing the Studio Framing in our 40 x 50 Pole Barn | DIY staircase and loft storage // V1E18
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this episode, we finish up the last of the woodwork. That includes a staircase to the area above the studio, which we are going to use for storage, and the tongue and groove OSB boards. Plus we let you in on a little of our daily routines while we are completing our build. One of which includes a trip to our county offices to take a test to get our Idaho driver's license. Did we pass? Watch ...
Tiny Home Gets A Ceiling | Structural support and rolling joists in the studio // V1E17
มุมมอง 4.7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Our tiny home is starting to take shape! In this episode we add structural support so that we can use the space above the studio living area for storage. That includes a 6x10 beam that sits on two 6x6 posts. With just the two of us to lift the beam, we had to get creative. Using a ladder and strapping, we successfully placed the beam in place, but not without some serious heart pounding and bre...
Framing The Studio | Small living space inside the pole barn // V1E16
มุมมอง 6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
We finally have electricity inside the pole barn with the replacement of the sub panel. This allowed us to get some necessary lighting in the pole barn. There is a total of 10 bay lights and 2 light bars to ensure there will not be any dark corners, especially after the studio is built out. We also start on the framing of our studio inside the pole barn. This was not easy and required a lot of ...
This Could've Been Disastrous | Avoiding a potential fire // V1E15
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
We finally got the red and green wire that we needed to finish the electrical to the spring house, that will run the pump inside. Along with the electrical, we needed to run poly pipe so that we can use the spring water at the pole barn and the future main house site as needed. The plan is to use the spring water for our garden and to water animals in the future. We are also installing drainage...
Our New Massey Ferguson Tractor | Putting it to good use // V1E14
มุมมอง 39K2 ปีที่แล้ว
We decided to bite the bullet and buy a tractor. There is so much work around the property that we can do with it and save a bit of money by not having to hire out. So far, it has come in handy with all the back-filling and grading that we are having to do now that the infrastructure is done. We couldn't be happier with our Massey Ferguson 2850 tractor. We've also hit a stump in running electri...
We've got running water! | Bringing utilities in on raw land // V1E13
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Here we go again...digging trenches! Now that the pole barn is done we need to bring in utilities. That includes water and electricity, propane will be added later. All utilities run underground which means we have to dig the trenches for all the pipe to lay in. This is all fine until you hit rock like we did. Thank goodness there was a solution to not meeting the required depth for these pipes...
Our 40 x 50 Pole Barn Is Complete l First homestead structure // V1E12
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This is the first structure on our property and marks the beginning of our homestead build. After months of waiting, the construction of our pole barn is finally complete...well, almost complete. Besides a few strips of metal siding, a snow break and some white screws, it is complete. Having concrete means we can begin to plan on moving all of our storage items to the property and start on buil...
Water Well Drilling and Rough Installation of Plumbing // V1E11
มุมมอง 8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The day has finally come! The drilling of our water well begins. After three long days of drilling, we didn't get what we were hoping for, but we are ever so grateful for what we did get. Daniel and I are also becoming very familiar with plumbing. We got all the rough plumbing for our studio complete as well as a floor drain and RV dump drain. It's all ready for the concrete slab to be poured. ...

We built our barn first and lived in it for 2 years while building the house. Living room, bedroom and bathroom. Bought a fema trailer and sat it on the slab for the kitchen. Put the tires back on and sold it when we finished the house.

Excellent move getting a tractor. This morning I drove to my neighbor's house to use their phone (Landline phone is the pits in this county.) and as I started to go, I noticed they had hired some kid to move a pile of delivered gravel using a shovel and he was not a good worker. This couple was in their 80's. I thought to myself, they could have asked me and I could have moved the entire pile in a few minutes with my 19 hp Ford diesel with a bucket that I have built roads, drainage ditches, brought in firewood. Getting your tractor will be the most important decision on your experience. At my age arthritis slows me down but with my backhoe attachment I have nothing more to do. But really, you will never run out of work to do.

Liked your video. I was in a similar situation there only 30 years ago. My wife, me, and our 17-year old daughter. A rough 30 years but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Be sure to ask a resident of a few years what went on in your county in the early 90's. I remember writing back to friends in Washington saying, "This is like living in the old west."

We just picked up our first tractor. Massey was on our list, but we settled on a Yanmar model. Father in-law helped guide us and has always said you pay extra for that green paint 😎.

The cab is mandatory for comfort and safety. Wait till you break a window. When you blow yellow jackets out of the air filter you will kiss the glass. A hydraulic top link for the 3 pt is wonderful for box blade and hooking up. Next implement is a grader blade. Unless you have run one you have no idea you want it
