  • Welcome to our first video on our new channel. We will be documenting every moment of our new home build here on this channel. Subscribe to follow us as we learn the ins and outs of developing our 15 acres in Idaho into a home.
In this video, we are camping on our property while we meet with several different contractors. We have to determine where we want to build our home, which will determine where the septic system, water well, and garage/shop will go.
We hope you enjoy the video & are all healthy & safe!!!

Just found your channel. We are living a parallel life it seems. We're building our dream hobby farm in Walla Walla on 20 acres. Also escaping CA when our last kid graduates HS. Our pole barn is almost done and the house is under construction. It's so exciting. Thanks for sharing your story!

I left California in '54, lived 25 years on an island in Puget Sound, and finally moved to Idaho's central panhandle. I've been doing this life here for 30 years. I'm 78.

Be sure to ask a resident of a few years what went on in your county in the early 90's. I remember writing back to friends in Washington saying, "This is like living in the old west."

I clicked on the video just because it said "Idaho" and glad I watched until you were coming out of the ID County courthouse and immediately subscribed. I went to HS in Grangeville and love seeing anything filmed around my old home town (my Dad still lives there). Once you get established a little (by next summer I hope) you should do the ID BDR. It runs from the NV border to the Canadian border and will pass very close to your new property. Congratulations on your new property. I'm in TX now but my heart will always be in N Central ID.

New sub today. It's a pretty place. The only thing I would suggest is on the well, most people just put in a electric pump But I would also put in a good hand pump to. If power goes down you still need a way to get water. I remember when my grandma finally got a hand pump installed in her kitchen but the main well - bucket still worked. She never had a electric pump but a Uncle did. Actually he had to have two pumps because the well was so far from the house and had to run up two valleys. Several summers he'd have major problems getting water to his house and would have to buy cases of bottled water but if he had, had a hand pump even just one outside he wouldn't have had times going without water. Just a opinion.

In my limited knowledge I thought you need a perculation test before placing a septic. Also earlier you said still locating house so how do you know where to place septic? Maybe some flexibility in placement and piping from house.
Sorry I enjoy this stuff and want to do similar so trying to learn more!
    Thanks!

    • @jesseplz

Oh so maybe it is a pre dig to check percolation of soil.

Curious and if you want to share cost of well and septic? I was looking out in Landers for a 400’ well it is around $50k… i am guessing no where near that depth or cost where you are.

I've been a sub on your 395Junky channel for quite a while and now seeing you move towards what I am assuming your retirement location, I am excited to watch you build, document and share the experience. I hope to retire in the next 5-9 years and relocate to Montana or Idaho from our current Oregon home.
My wife and I have been kicking around what our retirement home would be like, and strongly leaning towards a barndaminium style setup on several acres. I am a tinkerer, fabricator, and automotive junky that craves a roomy work space for all my tools and gear. She wants a sustainable garden, small army of goats, and chickens and a more importantly a comfortable place to relax inside and out.
Obviously by running into your other channel we are into overland travel, camping, and other outdoor activities. Montana, and Idaho are both really great states to continue our adventures in.
Maybe some day we'll end up neighbors or cross paths on the trail?
    Cheers!

Congratulations on the new property in Idaho, and following your dreams. I'm a new follower to your vlog. Hubby and I love the Idaho area. We live in Oklahoma, hubby still works as a federal employee. He's not ready to retire. We moved to Oklahoma for his job, and decided to make the jump and purchase property. We purchased 20 acres in Oklahoma and just love living in the country.
I also follow another vlog in Idaho called Good Simple Living. They did what your doing with the apartment inside a pole barn, and building a home. They're following their dreams, and raising 4 children. If your not familiar with them, you may want to check their vlog out. I'm sure they would be more than happy to offer information or resources on home building in Idaho.
