    JBL DSP4086 8-channel amp: www.crutchfield.com/i-rYTVc2N...
    The DSP4086 gives you serious tuning power, including time alignment, variable crossover slopes, phase adjustments and signal summing. It's a jack-of-all-trades that you can configure the way that makes the best sense for your particular vehicle.
    Each channel offers 40 watts of amplification at 4 ohms, or 60 watts RMS at 2 ohms. The DSP4086, despite packing a lot of processing power, is very compact so you'll have more options for placement. Fine tuning is possible when you connect the amp to a Windows computer, letting you tweak the sound to your heart's content.

    I come from the era of Phoenix Gold M and MS, Punch, and old JBL GTi speakers. The things that tech can do now days is just amazing. The amount of power they can make for the amp draw is insane. We spoke of 48 volt car systems back then, if it ever comes to fruition it's going to get even crazier.

    Can you run only 2 sets of RCA inputs into this and assign them to still get 8 channels of output? Thus connecting the third preout set from a HU directly to a more powerful monoblock amp?

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi James, if your source unit offers 6-channel preamp outputs, you can connect the front outputs to inputs 1 and 2 on the amplifier, and the rear outputs to inputs 3 and 4 and then specify your exact setup via the audio settings you make. Keep in mind, none of these channels are designed to be bridged.

  • @chriscuthbertson
    @chriscuthbertson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's a shame you can't bridge channels as that would help massively with a sub woofer, or would it be possible to run 2 channels to a DVC sub? and link the outputs

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Channels 7 and 8 can be assigned as subwoofer outputs. It is possible to wire one channel to one voice coil on a DVC subwoofer. We cover this and more on our web page for it and here's a link to that page:

    Is there any benefit to using the front 2 channels only for the door woofers, and the rear 2 channels (RCA's) for only the tweeters (2-way components without their external crossovers)? Does summing from the front channels in the mixer to both the woofers and tweeters provide full wattage to both the woofers and tweeters, or is it halved?
    Also, how would I use the dsp to control a stronger bass amp that doesn't have speaker level inputs?

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  ปีที่แล้ว

      The best setup will depend on your exact speakers and preferences. The amp has 6 input channels that can be summed and assigned to any of the processor's 8 powered output channels. The audio signal from any input channel can be assigned to any output channel. Multiple input channels can be summed to the same output channel, allowing a full-range speaker to get its signal from separate tweeter, midrange, and woofer signals in a factory system.
      Each channel can have its own 31-band parametric or graphic EQ, high- and low-pass crossovers, with selectable slopes, time delay, and more, all configured using you connected Windows PC.

      You would not need to cut any wires from this amp's harness. Any unused RCA inputs can be left in place and any unused outputs can be capped off.

      You would have to bypass the rockford system, and replace the speakers in the truck. I'd say it's a 7/10 on overall install, as you will have to run new wires, and replace the speakers. One of our advisors would love to help you get it all sorted! bit.ly/2KP1zS3

    I have a y62 patrol, I think it's an Infinity qx80 over in the states.
    It has a Bose "premium" system with sub ect.
    I have no idea how many watts RMS that has, but it literally has a bass and treble slider, no eq, nothing.
    I'm keen on this unit to splice into it, but not sure the RMS power of this amp is going to be sufficient for decent volume?

      The manual does not give any troubleshooting steps to help resolve your issue. Did you connect its power wire to the battery? If you didn't, then that could be causing the issue. If you did, then you will want to speak with a technician to troubleshoot the issue. If you purchased it from us, you can contact our technical support. This amp could be used to power aftermarket speakers installed into the stock locations in your vehicle. At the time of this post, we do not have a subwoofer that will fit into the factory location and would need to install that elsewhere. If that is ok, we recommend contacting an advisor to get help building a replacement speaker system for your BMW. Here's how to reach us for this help:

    how much louder is this that say a factory radio. in my case F150 non sony 2017 truck with 8" screen. When i see 40 watts i think that isnt alot compared to what i am used to seeing on other amps. not planning on using for subs only running active fronts

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, 40 watts doesn't seem like much but it really is more than it sounds. A stock non-amplified audio system in most cars only produce about 3-5 watts per speaker. Amplified systems like Bose, Harman Kardon, etc don't produce much power either. So realistically 40 watts rms x8 is going to give you a lot more volume than a 5-25 watt stock system. The sound quality will also be much more clear and crisp. More power driving speakers will allow them to perform better and you'll be able to hear detail you were missing before. Since this amp has a digital signal processor built in you're going to get even better sound since you can really fine tune your system with the 31 band eq.

      Do the timing with a tape measure. Set the crossovers based on which speakers you have. If you want to tune further, you are in for a certain amount of commitment anyway, just buy a mic at that point.

    • @crutchfield
      @crutchfield  ปีที่แล้ว

      You would not need to cut wires but would need to use the DSP in the amp to distribute the audio from the 4 RCA inputs being used by your radio to the any of the 8 channel outputs. The unused output can be capped off so they don't touch anything.
