All I want is a book size (6-8 inch) "kindle" that can also read my read-it-later apps (reader and pocket) with page turn buttons. I don't need any other bells or whistles. Is this one?

I think this would fit your needs,, yes! I have the smaller one, M6, and the reading experience on different apps has been good.

Heavy is not a sign of quality with these things. Frequently the opposite. Readers just shouldn't be heavy, because it restricts how you can use it. I think this looks a nice unit, and I'm loving it's functionality. But it's weight is the deal breaker.

I dont like asymmetrical devices much, it makes sense for devices with buttons but even the boox note and kindle scribe havs a fat edge even without buttons. Why is that? The design of the M7 looks much better, the change of texture on the side improves it visually.
