Wow do I wish I could purchase this version of the song, it's incredible! The harmonic and rhythmic variation over the same melody (plus the super tight groove) just makes this freaking mindblowing and so good. The drums during the bridge wow, and changing modes during the last chorus the second time through is just awesome.

One of things I loved about these dudes and their earlier stuff (like this) was that it was very dynamic: tempo changes, dynamics (loud/soft) all with that great energy. Rise feels very "neutral" in terms of dynamics. Like every song is at the exact same balance level and nothing really stands out in the mix. I know the bassist left some years before Rise happened, and I wonder if that had a big affect on the album. For instance, go and compare "Colors" to "Warning Signs". Colors is basically a rewriting of Warning Signs and I MUCH prefer the latter.

Hey Al! Never heard of Ritual before! The guitar in the video is a Peavey Wolfgang. It's similar to the Music Man but the Wolfgang is Eddie Van Halen's signature model!
