I don't think people realize how the release of this song impacted pop music big time. This came out around the time when most of the music you'd see on the charts would also cater to the clubs and were generally upbeat. Lorde became a breath of fresh air in those moments. Ever since this came out, people started to take on more of the alternative sound. So far, in this decade, the only shift I've noticed since the shift that occurred after Royals is that now we've transitioned to more house beats and rap elements.
@@ddt6352 Melodrama was 2 years ago and it was great, I would rather wait another 2 - 4 years and get anothsr great album, and Ellas dog died recently, so it's probably really hard for her recently to write her songs and that's fine

Accurate
I don't think people realize how the release of this song impacted pop music big time. This came out around the time when most of the music you'd see on the charts would also cater to the clubs and were generally upbeat. Lorde became a breath of fresh air in those moments. Ever since this came out, people started to take on more of the alternative sound.
So far, in this decade, the only shift I've noticed since the shift that occurred after Royals is that now we've transitioned to more house beats and rap elements.
Remember when it was Lorde instead of Billie?
Billie is nice. She’s nice. But lorde was great:
Yeah, but Lorde is beyond whispering and beyond that.

She’s was the Billie Eyelashes of the early 2010s
No it really isn’t.
The Immortal Sun-kun, she looks older then that
She and Billie Eilish were both very young when they made their first songs, Billie was 14 and Lorde was 16.
She was 16 when she released this.

I'm 30 and haven't accomplished shit, but the song isn't that great.
Coming from a person who hates pop this is amazing. It's not called "Royals" to emulate it. It's a stab at elitism which is both punk and metal. I love it.

Yes a classic in 30, she helped music out of it's dying rattles. One hit wonder? She has several I have heard; I don't even listen where her stuff is played. I prefer rock, but she's a nice alternative to my heavier fare.

I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address, in the torn up town
No post code envy

Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash
We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair
And we'll never be royals
It don't run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen B
And baby I'll rule (I'll rule I'll rule I'll rule)
Let me live that fantasy
My friends and I we've cracked the code
We count our dollars on the train to the party
And everyone who knows us knows that we're fine with this
We didn't come from money
But every song's like gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
