With atrocious marvel movies during the 90's, the lid was about to be shut off on Marvel adaptations when this movie came out.
It's the success of Blade that permitted the filming of X-Men and the Sam Raimi Spiderman.
And of course, it's the success of these two franchises that opened the door to what today is known as The Marvel Universe.
I doubt very much that Blade would have been such a success if someone else than Westley Snipes did the role, he was just perfect in it.
He's as much Blade as Hugh Jackman is Wolverine.
So it's not a stretch to say that without Westley Snipes, there would be no Marvel Universe today.

Now you can understand the hype and perhaps "backlash" if you could call it that at the announcement of a rebooted Blade with actor Mahershala Ali in the lead. Not that he's a poor actor, which he's quite the contrary, but Weasley Snipes IS Blade. Seeing anyone else portray the Daywalker is genuinely a difficult task even with a very solid script.

And yeah, the CGI was kind of funky, especially at the end. This movie was made right at the point where CGI was just starting to get good enough so that directors and producers felt like they could use it in big budget action flicks, but often got over ambitious with it. At that particular moment, it was good enough for audiences who hadn't see that kind of thing before, but it aged poorly. No doubt if it had been done with today's tech, it would have looked spectacular.

But ol' Howie has been going strong in motion media since 1940, making the lil' sassy feathered Hero the most important first foundation of the MCU!
Blade is the first (un)Human MCU Superhero committed to screen. He's the whole basement and initial bricks and mortar with added putty and premium-grade grout.

I love the Blade movies. The 2nd movie is my favorite. You might not care for the 3rd movie with Ryan Reynolds in it, it has a lot of his style (Ryan Reynolds) of comedy in it.😊

I always find a lot of details in this movie make it feather unique. It’s not in every story you see a Southern vampire, yet alone a black Vampire Hunter.

Blade (and the franchise) is a fun movie(s). My only complaint is that the silver weakness is a werewolf thing not a vampire thing.

Fun fact: Donald Logan, who played Frost's right hand man, Mr, Crispy at the hospital, dislocated his jaw shooting the burned corpse scene at the hospital. He had to go to a REAL hospital to get treated in his burnt corpse costume and makeup, and it gave the hospital staff quite a thrill! lol

You definitely need to watch the second one and the third one knowns as "Trinity". Ps Wesley Snipes had been training in martial arts since age twelve, earning a high ranking 5th dan black belt in Shotokan Karate and 2nd dan black belt in Hapkido. He has also trained as a student of Capoeira under Mestre Jelon Vieira and in a number of other disciplines including various styles of kung fu. He's an authentic martial arts specialist 😅😅😅

Snipe's shenanigans over the years aside, this movie is one of the best vampire movies ever made, and the Blade character is awesome :)
If you want to see more outrageous Snipes, watch "Demolition Man", lol.

Actually though, if getting technical, even if fans don't want it to be so, it was actually Howard the Duck which was the first Marvel movie. I still love Howard the Duck either way. Of course, I was a kid then so there is nostalgia in place. I love Blade too though.

Blade is one of my favorite movies. Blade II is just as good(Some say its better, but I actually don't think so. I think the first film has a better overall story.)
It's one of those films along the way that just shows Marvel isn't nearly as spectacular as people think it is. It used to be a lot bolder. This, the Thomas Jane Punisher, the Sami Raimi Spider-Mans, are my favorite of the Marvel movies. What's amazing about that is none of them are technically part of the "MCU" well. I guess the Raimi Spider-Man's are sorta part of the MCU thanks to all the dimensional hijinks... But I just prefer their more unique tone and identity when compared to the newer stuff, which feels very "by commitee"

This is a great Movie and a fantastic introduction to Blade ( and Blade 2 is even better , Blade 3 in trash though ) Wesley Snipes is fantastic and fits the character so well , Wesley is a fantastic martial artist so does a lot of his own stunts and fight scenes . Love the Costume his outfit , hairstyle is so great especially given that originally Blade had a big afro , big shades with a trench coat and stakes in the comic but hey it was the 70s , the Movie outfit is so much better and gives Blade a real bad ass look and vibe . Kris Kristofferson is great too and had lots of great lines , Stephen Dorff was ok as Frost felt he was not much of a threat ( The Villian in Blade 2 is way better in my opinion and is played by Luke Goss from Boyband Bros but dont let that put you off he is great ) all in all this works so well the fight scenes are great too , the Blade reboot has some big shoes to fill I just hope they make it as violent and grown up as this but we shall see .

Yes Blade 3 isn’t as good. But it does have a great scene of how vampires are preparing for having a low human blood supply. Very disturbing.

    • @marvelstarwarsgeek1511
      @marvelstarwarsgeek1511 ปีที่แล้ว

@@angelavalentino5146 Blade 3 was intended to launch a spinoff franchise with Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel character the Nightstalkers but unfortunately it made Blade a guest star in his own movie , I suppose if that had happened we may not have got Deadpool then , its easily the weakest of the trilogy .

Actually the very first Marvel superhero movie was Howard the Duck, in 1986 (Howard can be seen in the modern MCU in the post-credits of GotG2, and in a quick shot in Endgame). It's a majorly bad acid-trip of a movie, but it had Lia Thompson, so I don't mind watching it for her, lol. There was also some made-for-TV Marvel movies back in the 80s (Hulk, Captain America, and I think a Thor + Hulk movie), but I don't count those. But yeah, Blade was the first REALLY GOOD superhero flick based on a Marvel property.
