What a time to be alive. Grier has been doing the lords work and it’s so nice to be excited as a sharks fan again. Hope he’s saving the big finale for tomorrow. If we can walk away from tomorrow’s draft with two top ten picks he’s official a God.
Has to be exciting to be a Sharks fan. You're getting Celebrini then a very good prospect at 11 and lots more picks to be made. Rebuilds take years, but they seem to crystalize around one draft and for San Jose, it's this draft.
Zeev Buium will be long gone before San Jose picks at No. 11. Professor Hockey's analysis is on the mark - if Mike Grier is targeting a D-man, Carter Yakemchuk is the only one of the Top 6 D-men that will be available at No. 11.
Nice analysis as always Professor! I really like the moves that Mike Grier has made so far to improve the Sharks and I am super excited for tomorrow, I have my Sharks flag outside our house and I will be wearing my old CCM Owen Nolan jersey as I watch the draft tomorrow. Go Sharks!!!!!
I know there is almost no way Buium is there at 11, but I would be over the moon with him joining the boys. Let's see if Big Money Mike can move up again. A crack at any of those 6 D would be incredible
Well, Buffalo's GM did say in a presser last week that he was actively open to trading #11 so it wasn't a surprise that a trade was done before draft day. It may also indicate that Grier wanted to get it done before the draft if he wanted to be prepared to make another move on draft day to move up some more. If I were in Grier's shoes and Buffalo had made #11 available in advance, I would certainly get that done as soon as possible so as to focus on subsequent draft day moves. It gives Grier the ability in phone calls to present an absolute rather than a hypothetical as all GMs know that he has the #11 to work with in a potential trade. It's a chess move. Getting it done sooner than later is really the way to go in this situation. And if no trade worth his liking presents itself on the draft floor, he's still in a better position to get a better d-man or better overall player at 11 than 14. Good shit, Maynard.
@@professorhockey fair enough. If Grier has success with what he has been given he'll be at least highly regarded. But comparing the two is a fruitless endevour anyways
Hey Professor, This is good news. I didn't say it but, I was hoping that Grier would choose to move up and try to secure a quality defensive prospect. I don't want to see happen to us what happened to Edmonton with all those high level forwards and NO defense. I think you might be right about making another push to trade up into that upper echelon of defensive prospects. I truly hope it happens particularly since this years draft is not necessarily expected to be as deep as other years. I also like the idea you floated about Cunin and Zedina. I would kind of like to see Zedina get more time to find his footing but, Cunin would not be a big loss to me. Good size and effort but, the quality of his play just wasn't that evident to me. I think given this trade with LA it is likely that at least Cunin will be let go and this guy will be slotted in to upgrade the bottom 6. Excellent news Professor. I am very excited to see what comes in the next week starting tomorrow. Cheers! Pete Clovis, CA
So the question here is if Eiserman is still available and Silayev, Leshunov, Buiuim, Dickingson & Parekh are gone. Do we take Yakemchuk over Eiserman?
Really hoping the sharks can package the 11th pick to move up to 6-9 and draft Zeev Buium or even Parekh. If we sit at 11 I'm not a fan of Yakemchuk and if the other top 5 D are gone I hope we just take Catton//Senneke/Hellenius instead
Drafts rarely go how people think. Giving up an early second for a rebuilding team is a lot to gamble on. But the draft is a gamble, so good luck. Lol.
good insight on "swallowing the pill" to jump a few spots from 11 to say 6-8 instead of 14 up a "monumental" 8 spots, instead of say 3-5... guys like Zeev, Sam Dickinson, Tij Iginla or Silayev or Eiserman would likely be available around that sweet spot!
He’s a dark horse at this point, and very unpredictable. He could be a top pairing guy just easily as he could never make it to the show. As much as I like him as a prospect, I think it is smart to get more of a “sure thing” (as sure as an early first rounder can be).
I wouldn't trade up for Parehk, I'll do it for Buium but not for Parehk...There's some decent Defenseman you can get @#33 and #53 Charlie ElickRD6'4 Badinka 6'3 ,Adam KleberRD 6'5 or Jesse Pulkkinen 6'6
I've just looked for the fun, and it will probably not happen but Sharks #11 and VGK 1st next year would bring us to about MTL #5 pick. I'm not that delusional (yet lol) but that could be something, especially if for some reason Demidov is falling because Russian factor. Highly doubt it even happens, but just the possibility alone is nice Next 24 hours will be really fun
@@professorhockey oh for sure, it wasn't really realistic! Just that we have in theory the ammo for it. But I don't expect we'd go further than Seattle!
Do not waste this pick on one of those remaining Dmen... That would be a total bozo move. He put himself in the money zone of Eiserman, Catton, Konsta & Senneke... If Eiserman is there you 1000% take him. If hes not, you take 1 of the other 3. These left over Dmen at 11th are not standouts. PLEASE for the love of god, do not select Yakemchuk
I have seen some people who are down on Yakemchuk like yourself, it’s certainly possible that if they fail to move up even further, that they go with best player available and draft a forward. They could always use them as trade bait for a defenseman.

Go all in for Buium. Reminds me of Scotty Niedermayer. He terrorized the Sharks with his smooth skating, hockey sense, and offense for years.
Zeev Buium will be long gone before San Jose picks at No. 11. Professor Hockey's analysis is on the mark - if Mike Grier is targeting a D-man, Carter Yakemchuk is the only one of the Top 6 D-men that will be available at No. 11.
@@dlphcoracl9645 Agreed, unless the Sharks trade up from 11. CBJ’s GM said they’re open to trading 4, perhaps there’s a trade to be made there.
Scott Niedermayer terrorized the Sharks. Therefore the Sharks should draft Zeev Buium. Love the logic😂.

@@professorhockey not sure I'm ready to toss in the 33rd pick. Maybe I'm too early to start looking for depth. The third round pick...yes
I enjoyed listing to that quick to-the-point analysis. Thank you

Spot on analysis.
Excellent analysis
alot of people saying Grier jumped the flyers for eiserman
Grier is doing fantastic compared to the latter years of Wilson's tenure as GM. But overall its pretty even if you factor in Wilson's earlier years.
Grier is in a very different position than Wilson ever was, so it’s a bit difficult to compare them right now.
@@professorhockey fair enough. If Grier has success with what he has been given he'll be at least highly regarded. But comparing the two is a fruitless endevour anyways
I’d be very happy with a 11 and 33 trade for 7th if the senators would go for it… or possibly a 11 and Bordeleau trade for 7th or 8th????

Looking good.

I think if the sharks can’t land Buium, Dickinson, or Parekh with that 11th pick, then should focus on catton, helenius or eiserman
We’re prolly gonna take Yakemchuck. And if we don’t. We get our choice between good forwards.
