Just wanted you to know what an impact something you said in a previous video had on me. You mentioned that you had learned to focus on “progress over perfection.” As someone who tends to be a perfectionist, I often shutdown and do nothing if I can’t do it all or do it perfectly. Thanks to your comment, I’m learning to be easier on myself. It’s good to see your videos again! 😊
It's a flylady montra. That's what started Steff's journey. She has a 21 day playlist that really helped me get my isht together in 2021. She's awesome! Also Love Always Laday is super helpful too.
Yay, so nice to see you back and smiling, my friend! 👏😃💖 I know you already know what method I use for avoiding mental overwhelm, Steph 😁 But for anyone else watching... I do the same steps as Steph does in this video and then take it a step further (based on the Getting Things Done system by David Allen) I divide the items on my "brain dump" list into simple categories... Things to do when I'm physically at home (cleaning, projects, desk work, etc). Things to do when I'm physically away from home (groceries, errands, drop offs, appointments, etc). Things to do when online/on my phone. Things where I need to consult with someone else before I can move forward (asking family, phoning insurers, etc). Works so well and fits in with the Flylady system too! I keep ongoing lists on my telephone (Google Keep) so I always have them handy when I'm ready to take action 😃 I've done a whole series on Getting Things Done if you'd like more info 👋🤩
Excellent advice Steph! Another first step in clearing mental clutter is developing a meditation practice. Start small.... think of it as just 3 min of quiet time. Close your eyes and just BE WITH your thoughts. Don't try to stop your thoughts, acknowledge them, and just let them pass on through. Even just sitting with eyes closed, focusing on 5 deep breaths, periodically throught the day... will ease mental clutter. Think of it as a mental muscle you can build... the more often you practice short intervals of "quiet time" (meditation)... the quicker your body will begin to respond, by calming down and de-stressing. One mental clutter clearing activity I LOVE ❤.... is making time during the day, every day, to get lost in something you love to do. It could be reading, knitting, going for a walk. For me it's ART. A friend sent me this quote... which is so perfect... "Art washes away from the soul, the dust of everday life." (Pablo Picasso) Dedicate an allotment of time for this activity every day.
This is also a good tip for someone who is experiencing grief. I have just lost my old dog [16years old] and although I knew he was at the end of his life I am still heartbroken that he is gone. rather than "carrying - on" for the whole day, I do stop every so often just to think of him and grieve for him, which helps me to cope and I am then able to carry on with my daily life.
@@elspethdurkin5598 I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved dog. Just being with those memories is a wonderful thing for you to do within the grieving process. I understand your loss. My cat passed at 18 and you are so right.... even though we know logically that it is their time... it is so heart breaking. Love and Hugs to you!💞
Great video. I have a nightly routine that helped me go from struggling to fall asleep for hours to falling asleep fast enough that I don’t even know how long it takes anymore. It was all mental clutter. I get completely ready for bed and then I spend a little time in my planner and journal. I check to see what my morning looks like, and I write down anything I want to get done tomorrow (and check off anything on my list I already did). Then I write in my journal. I jot down a few things from the day and make sure to add something specific for which I’m grateful. Some nights, I add some extra activities, like inspirational talks and crochet, but taking the time to review my day and make/review a plan for the next day has made a huge difference!
I use post-it notes as auxiliary memory. I have a colour for each family member, another for home (housekeeping chores, repairs, etc.), and I use bright yellow for ‘urgent’. Because they stick to things, I can post them anywhere I need to - I usually have 3 to 6 on the kitchen cupboard directly above the counter where I prepare meals, I sometimes stick them at my place at the table, if I need to remember to go somewhere or buy something I’ll stick a note to the front door, take it to the car and stick it to the dashboard. This is in addition to the calendar system you suggested, and the calendar in my phone. My husband doesn’t love the colourful paper everywhere (I take them down when company’s coming) but phone alarms don’t work for me because I often miss them, and this way I can jot something down the minute I think of it. And they’re colour-coded, so I know WHO I have to drive, help, buy for, at a glance.
One tip to easily categorize to-do’s is to color code the list. You can do it after writing the list, using highlighters, or as you’re writing it, using a multicolor pen. I think writing the list out first in black ballpoint ink and then color-coding with highlighters afterward is best for keeping an uninterrupted flow of thought. Ballpoint ink doesn’t smear under highlighters like most gel ink pens can. Write a small color-coding key nearby for reference (e.g. yellow = kids, green = spouse, etc). You can use a red asterisk or exclamation point next to an item to indicate URGENT. Or you can color-code by writing the tasks on different colored sticky notes in the notebook. That helps too because you can always just grab a sticky to take into a store or on an errand without taking the whole notebook.
I have missed you very much. I understand your need to stop and focus and it is refreshing that you did that for yourself instead of falling into the social media trap of people-pleasing. You are a bright-spot for all your YT subscribers!
My grandmother had a 1940s enameled table that she would write lists on. Anything that she didn't want to forget. It was easy to wipe off, and she always knew where to find it. My mother on errand day would write on a sticky note all of the tasks (grocery store, bank, post office, etc) and stick it on the dash of her car drawing a line through things as she went. Me, I love to use my notes app and calendar on my phone which I always have with me. I take a photo of the grocery list on the refrigerator so that I can reference it when I shop. I'm so happy that you are posting again! You always give great advice (I'm totally doing a brain dump onto paper right now 😀)
I've missed your videos SO much. I am so glad you are back! Whether it's once a week, once a month, or once a year, I am so glad you are posting again! This video is exactly what I needed today. When you did your live video talking about why you haven't been posting, I could SO relate! I think all of us can right now! This last year alone has been tough on so many! Hang in there! ❤️
Welcome back! I’m so happy to see you again. I do write EVERYTHING down. I have alarms go off all day on my phone to remind me to do even the smallest thing.
Steph, so excited your back! Praying everyone is happy and healthy. With untreated ADHD, I 100% rely on lists, notebooks, planners, digital planners…anything that helps me to track and plan because my mind does not remember dates or times, or why I needed to run to town. The more I drilled into planning and lists and learned to actually use them, the more productive, efficient, and happy I became. Great topic!
Thank you Steph. You are such a genuine person. Your time with your family is so very important for you and them. Your children are young now and will grow up so fast. Give the best of yourself to your family. A peaceful home and life is a blessing.
Hey, Steph! I’m so happy to see you! I have added a “brain dump” section to my Flylady daily sheet in my journal, and that has helped me immensely with post stroke memory issues. You look great!
LOL, Steph - did we miss you? Look at those views & likes piling up, in just 1 hour!! Love this tribe!💖 I'm single and work full-time, and I use a minimalist Bullet Journal for most of my brain dumping / to-do-listing. it has worked great for me for (wow) about 10 years now. I don't do artwork or stickers - just a calendar list + daily to-do lists. I can get 18 months or more in one dot-grid book. I keep a separate book for reflective journaling, and my shopping list is also a separate small pad that'll fit easily in my purse. I do keep a few things electronically on my phone, like the kind of ink cartridges my printer uses, lists of foods my friends are allergic to in case I'm shopping for dinner with them, measurements of things I hope to buy (like more dishes for my set, baskets that will fit in my pantry, etc.). But most of the time I'm a fountain-pen-and-ink gal - so far, so good with the BuJo system! It really does free up the mind and help me focus on the joys of life.😊
My grandkids school makes a school calendar every year. It has all the important school dates already in it. Very handy for coordinating days for the kids to come and stay. !
Hi 😊 I use a year planning book 📖 I write my meal plan on each Day at the top then my jobs I would like to get Done for the Day , also add anything I need to remember I make coffee ☕ and start my Day great to see your beautiful smile back 🥰💐
Happy to see you again! I use two plans. The task list is for what must be currently done and doesn't have a specific timetable, and the agenda for what has a scheduled time and day. I don't fulfill the agenda, the empty spaces will be for the daily tasks, writen appart. The projects, or dreams to become projects, stay on the end of the agenda, in different colours, according to the area of life, ( ex. family, social, experiences, hobbies...) with a step -by-step of possible actions, in the order in which they should be performed. They will progressively pass to the task list or the agenda. What you have done here, we call "the entrance", a temporary stapled sheet of paper, in the first page of the agenda ( or the note pad in the mobile) where I write everything that crosses my mind, and I want to keep. As soon as we have a little time, these things go the proper place or are rejected. It's complex to explain, but very simple to do 😀 👍⚘🙏
I keep a planner with pages for everything! Grocery list, meal plans, weekly to do, monthly schedule, house maintenance, all my fly lady schedules, just everything to keep me on top of things. I use plan and pay day to update all my lists. So helpful!
Watching you makes me feel more energy, strength, kindness towards myself, acceptance ❤ and things get done. I am SO grateful for everything you share ❤ take care of yourself!
@3 Sisters Great Mine's think alike, 🤔 😄. I Love the fact that she gave up her career to raise her children herself. She could have gone into teaching or other, but she found the need to be a stay-at-home mom. I personally gave up a lot, then got stuck as a mom because of my health 🙃.
Every week I make a cross in a sheet of paper and on each section i write: groceries / outside the house (apointments, farmacy...) / In the house (changing lamps, furniture, diy) / at the PC, phone (payments, calls....) It has save me a lot of stress
I just try to keep our life simple. I used to keep an (ongoing) to-do list. It was starting to stress us out. I whittled it down and just threw it out. A lot of things just don't really matter that much. Quality time with your family and your spouse is absolutely paramount. Wishing you God's blessings and peace!
I' ve done that on a daily basis to handle job issues and I kept the personal appointments in my phone, but I didn't think to make an extended to do list for family&personal issues, which clutter my brain, as you well said. That is a really helpful and practical idea. I also love that you showed a simple notebook as an example and not an exquisite one. This way the habit seems to be more achievable, for me at least 😅. Thank you very much !
I've always had to have things on an actual paper calendar. I even have 7 of them at my desk! To be fair, 5 are for work (2 jobs so I can keep my tasks updated). (4 for 1 company and 1 for another) Then I have the personal family calendar and the bills schedule LOL. I'm trying to find a nice 'task' app that will pop up on my computer to remind me of tasks so I can stop my YT scrolling and go do my work chores. OH! We even have 3 chore calendar charts in the hall. There's the kids weekly tasks - 1 task per day of the week, the 1 3 minute chore chart so that everything in the house gets cleaned at least once, but most times twice since everyone has to touch it, then we have the rotating weekly calendar ... (1 person is in charge of kitchen trash, or pet food or helping me in the kitchen). I am so excited that you are back. Side note - we recently (November) moved from California to Idaho, and although we lived in the snow for 10 years up to about 7 years ago, it's taking a minute to get back to being used to it. And anytime I think it's cold out .... I just go back to seeing you in winter for your 1,000 hours outside with icicles on your eyelashes! ... and I realize that it's not THAT cold here. Looking forward to seeing you more. Maybe some lives to fill out our weekly paper, or more Podcasts ... I work from home and play YT on my computer while I'm working and I love to listen to people while I'm working. ANYWAY! So glad you're back and that you validated my paper calendar obsession!
I highly recommend David Allen's book, "Getting Things Done"... in the meantime, take that braindump list and divide it up into a few lists based on context. Ie, calls to make, at computer, errands, home, work etc :)
I have a “notes” app on my phone with about 20 subtitles……clears up a lot of mental clutter as I don’t have to remember measurements, groceries, questions for my doctor, books I want to read, stuff I need to speak to the bank about……the list goes on!
So great to see you!!! Yes, I love the blue both in the kitchen and on you, looks great! Very peaceful. Thanks for the reminder to clear mental clutter and utilize a calendar. Great to have you back Steph!
When our three children were growing up, I did the same calendar and had a different color for each child, my husband, and myself. Every year I would transfer the birthdays, anniversaries, etc to the next year. I kept the calendars to help with photo sorting and scrapbooking.
If you use google, you have google calendar and you can share calendar with your family, the best thing ever. (As soon as you enter some event, task, it is shared to all family calendars you have). My kids are little, but when they grow up they will have it also, as me and husband now. Lifesaving 😁
I started putting recurring lists on a goggle doc. For example I always got stressed about all the stuff I needed to do before a vacation so I made a to do list of what I need to do a month before, week before etc. Now anytime we go away I just print the list, tweak it and it's been awesome!
Great video! Great topic! I have found it most helpful to have a notebook or white board by my bed, so I brain dump every night before bed (and I’m a sucker for crossing stuff off a list). I also am a big dork so I carry a notebook in a bag with me back and forth to work. Because I don’t have a calendar that I know I’ll consistently use b/n work and home, I will jot stuff down that I need to take care of outside of work on the notebook and then I will email myself at work for stuff that needs to be done during the business day (like make an appointment or call another business for a service, etc. Its what helps me clear my mental clutter and helps with my productivity. It’s not perfect, but it works for me!! ❤
Glad to have you back. We have a magnetic board on our fridge with eraser pens (Amazon). On it we write anything household needed. Then I take a picture of it and off to the store.
One area of mental clutter is second guessing yourself type of thoughts. I started to stop second guessing my email responses, texts etc etc and wow! If I am happy with my response then out it goes and no. more. thinking about that. Less mental clutter! Yay, feels good!
I have a note on my phone called “parking spot.” That’s where I put all the mental stuff that I need to remember. Also, I am shopping list for different stores. Sometimes when I’m out I just want to pop into a store and I don’t have my list. Nice to see you back.
I finally found your video explaining why you are posting less. :) You are missed, but I totally understand. I'm in a pretty overwhelming season myself. Thanks for leaving up your channel so we can rewatch older videos!
So happy to have you back! I was standing in line to return some things and had a wave of to do items pass through my head. I need a moment with a notebook for sure!
Yay! Love that you took time off. Sharing your insights is so valuable. Thank you for using your voice. You validate the experiences of others as well. Healing is a journey. 🕊✨💕
Welcome! So glad to see you back! Really missed you and this video is right on point as I’ve been trying to simplify myself. Colour is great, looking forward to a home tour.
I love this time of the year, school started a month ago and composition notebooks were on sale for 50 cents. I buy several because I use them to write down my daily to-do list.
it's good to see you!! I don't have much energy after an hour power clean, but THANK YOU so much for your channel, your positivity and kindness. you (and Cass from Clutterbug!) are keeping me motivated to tackle the house and get chores done. As an ADHD I've struggled with clutter and disorganization all my life. But this is changing, one step at the time...thank you again Steph 💞💞
Seek peace, Pursue it! Welcome back you little life changer you❤️ Great advice. Thank you! Today I was completely overwhelmed, then I remembered 5x5. I’m on it 🎉
Thank you for this video. This is a great idea , thanks for sharing 🤗. While watching this, I hadn’t been able to sleep for a long time because of so much on my mind, I spoke to my boss about it and she said to me and said: have a pen and paper beside your bed and whenever you can’t sleep, jot things down on the paper that’s what’s on your mind and bothering you and so far it has worked. I should do this during the day as well 👍
Welcome back! I have missed you! And yes mental clutter is a huge thing for me as well. My husband just doesn’t get it. So one day I told him to sit and watch. I literally just started writing what was in my head and it was over 30 things in 2 minutes. He couldn’t think of 5 lol.
It is so good to see you back on TH-cam! I've missed you. I hope you and your family are all doing well. I love your good and sensible advice. From the looks of your beautiful kitchen, the remodel must be coming along nicely. I hope to be seeing more of you and maybe even a new home tour! 🤗🌹🌿
Welcome back, Steph! This is all great advice, as usual. I was listening to you but also trying to peek around you to see more of the house. Everything looks just lovely - - love that window! ☺
You are absolutely amazing!!!! I feel like you're in my head saying my thoughts and feelings out loud. So many women feel the exact same way but it just feels great to hear that you're not alone. Your take on the flylady system was amazing but was still a bit too much for me. I definitely pulled helpful hints from it all and just like you said built my own routine. Even that seemed like a lot to me lol My life journey is always a work in progress and with age I'm learning that is ok. It is my hope and prayer that everyone will wake up to the effects of social media and not feel pressure to be a part of all of it and regular breaks are necessary to re-evaluate priorities! You are doing amazing and even if you only put out two videos this entire year I will enjoy every moment ... thank you thank you thank you for your sacrifice of time and sharing your life with others. And you keep telling those haters to keep their hate to themselves!!! We need more old school life lessons like.... "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all" !!!! 🤗❤️
So good to see you again! Your blue kitchen looks beautiful - matches your pretty sweater:). Looking forward to seeing your videos as they become available.
This kind of content is exactly what I need right now! Stay at home, homeschooling mom with 3 and new baby coming soon. Help with mental clutter and this kind of mind organization is so helpful. Your content always speaks to me so much, I’m excited to get your insight on this kind of topic. Thank you!
Welcome back!! I’ve recently really dived into Bullet Journaling to help with my mental clutter. You can do it really simply like it was intended by the creator Ryder Carroll, or make it into a meditative creative part of your week, or both as the weeks allow. We just started a fridge calendar too, which has been nice because the kids can help keep track of what’s going on.
Welcome back! I have a calendar to write everything down in. If I don’t right it down it’s not going to happen. Lol 😂 I need to do a big brain dump, thanks for the reminder 😃
So, so good to see you back! Today I had "service car at dealership" in red written down and when I got the text alert by phone I was already out of town at work. Clearly I need to shed some other mental madness if it was written and I still missed it..... 🤦♀️ Always room for progress not perfection!

It's complex to explain, but very simple to do 😀
👍⚘🙏
I keep a planner with pages for everything! Grocery list, meal plans, weekly to do, monthly schedule, house maintenance, all my fly lady schedules, just everything to keep me on top of things. I use plan and pay day to update all my lists. So helpful!
Watching you makes me feel more energy, strength, kindness towards myself, acceptance ❤ and things get done. I am SO grateful for everything you share ❤ take care of yourself!
Love you and Your Family ❣️🫠🙃💕🌺🌻🪷🪻🌺
Happy Spring ❣️🪻🪷🌻🌺🪻🌷🌻⚘️
I didn't know you watched her, too! I rarely read the comments because there are so many; but I decided to read them this time. I love her channel!
@@crybebebunny You're a wonderful mother. You take good care of your family. They're blessed to have you!
@@3TXSisters Thank you ❣️ You are a Wonderful Blessing to yours and to me.
Every week I make a cross in a sheet of paper and on each section i write: groceries / outside the house (apointments, farmacy...) / In the house (changing lamps, furniture, diy) / at the PC, phone (payments, calls....) It has save me a lot of stress
Happy you’re back! I keep the Notes on my iPhone. One titled To Buy and To Do. Easy to find and add quick items to.
I remember the little print outs you made. I hope I can find those again. ❤️ Thanks for everything.
Yes! That's the method I use, Cherry - so simple and effective! 👋😃
I have a “notes” app on my phone with about 20 subtitles……clears up a lot of mental clutter as I don’t have to remember measurements, groceries, questions for my doctor, books I want to read, stuff I need to speak to the bank about……the list goes on!
I’m very happy to see you again!!👏👏 I write everything, because i need to empty my head.
Welcome back. Great advice. You are glowing🌷
So great to see you!!! Yes, I love the blue both in the kitchen and on you, looks great! Very peaceful. Thanks for the reminder to clear mental clutter and utilize a calendar. Great to have you back Steph!
Keeping a day planner has helped me a lot, and it doubles as my homeschool log.
When our three children were growing up, I did the same calendar and had a different color for each child, my husband, and myself. Every year I would transfer the birthdays, anniversaries, etc to the next year. I kept the calendars to help with photo sorting and scrapbooking.
Welcomed back❤❤❤❤❤ happy to see u back😊
If you use google, you have google calendar and you can share calendar with your family, the best thing ever. (As soon as you enter some event, task, it is shared to all family calendars you have).
My kids are little, but when they grow up they will have it also, as me and husband now. Lifesaving 😁
This is great with my teenagers too.
Good to have you back ! 🥰🌱🌷💐☘💗✝
TY Steph for this video! You hit the nail right on the head! Out of the park!’ Peace love and happiness and prayers, Linda, Pa.
I started putting recurring lists on a goggle doc. For example I always got stressed about all the stuff I needed to do before a vacation so I made a to do list of what I need to do a month before, week before etc. Now anytime we go away I just print the list, tweak it and it's been awesome!
That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
Hiya! I have missed you - welcome back! 👏👍🙋♀️🥰
Your video and podcast presence has been missed! Wishing you well and so glad you're back.
The signature blue returned to the kitchen ❤
Glad to see you after so many days
Tęsknimy Steph! Wróć, gdy tylko bedziesz gotowa ❤
I have a note on my phone called “parking spot.” That’s where I put all the mental stuff that I need to remember.
Also, I am shopping list for different stores. Sometimes when I’m out I just want to pop into a store and I don’t have my list.
Nice to see you back.
So glad you're back! ❤ We've missed you but totally understand! You do you and we'll be here! Thanks for everything, Steph!
I am so glad you are back. I like the shorter videos with just a few tips. It is much easier for me to focus on one or two things. Thanks Stef!
A purse-sized notebook or jotting things on your phone’s notepad app helps in those situations. You can always transfer them to your main notebook.
So nice to hear from you again! The brain dump on paper is a good tip!
Yay! Love that you took time off. Sharing your insights is so valuable. Thank you for using your voice. You validate the experiences of others as well. Healing is a journey. 🕊✨💕
Welcome back. Just in time😍 happy to see you again
So lovely to have you back Steph ❤️
Welcome! So glad to see you back! Really missed you and this video is right on point as I’ve been trying to simplify myself. Colour is great, looking forward to a home tour.
I'm so glad you're back with us!!😃I have really missed you🥰
I love this time of the year, school started a month ago and composition notebooks were on sale for 50 cents.
SO glad to see you back! You’ve been missed, but I’m glad you chose to take care of yourself bc you were juggling so many things!
So glad you’re back 😊 x
Seek peace, Pursue it! Welcome back you little life changer you❤️ Great advice. Thank you! Today I was completely overwhelmed, then I remembered 5x5. I’m on it 🎉
So glad you’re back!! We’ve really missed you! Thanks for sharing your busy life with us!
I sooo relate totally!!!
LOVE the blue in the kitchen!!!!
So glad you are back! I've missed your videos 🙂
I'm glad you are back Steph, I missed you!!!
I use the pause app and take times for silence and stillness.
Thank you!
Triplets?? I’m A homeschooling mom with twins on the way. Trying so hard to get rid of clutter and get my spaces ready!!
Glad you are back🎉
Welcome back! 😊❤️ Great ideas as always!
Thank you Steph. I have to go back to your fly lady baby steps videos. Your new house looks lovely 😊
So, so good to see you back!
Today I had "service car at dealership" in red written down and when I got the text alert by phone I was already out of town at work.
Clearly I need to shed some other mental madness if it was written and I still missed it..... 🤦♀️
Always room for progress not perfection!
Kitchen looks great! I use google keep as my brain. We use google home and I can just ask google to add to my shopping list or daily list.
We used the same calendar when my kids were little! Worked great 👍
