Is this the one my son’s coach refers to as a Rittberger? (We’re in Switzerland)

I think it might be, unless Rittberger is a Toe Loop! I have a student from Belguim who uses the same terminology, I would need to double check with them!

Ice Coach Online Here they have Rittberger and Flip which to my novice understanding are “similar but different”. My son (12) switched from ice hockey to figure skating 2 years ago so we’re playing catch-up when it comes to terminology, especially having grown up in the U.K. and only ever hearing English figure skating commentary.

I've been struggling with the loop for a while now, I just can't seem to get my body in the right position. Will definitely try the hops! And I liked the explanation that only the arm moves. Thank you so much!

I’m just a beginner learning crossovers but I will definitely start these exercises, for some reason edge jumps look less scary than toe jumps (not that I can jump in any way yet 😅 but toe picks are scary, thank you for the video 💙⛸

A lot of people actually prefer toe jumps! Toe loop is often the first triple jump landed and most common jump you see performed in shows. A loop can be scary for some as you can easily slip off the entrance edge on to your hip if you're not careful!

Top tip for people who want to get a tighter air position, use a resistance band, tie one end to something and hold the other (or loop it around your crossed leg) and practice going from that entry position for the loop to the air position.
This will help build strength to have a tighter air position and get you there faster. Took me from off ice singles to doubles in few days.
Good luck and keep practicing everyone

Great advice! It's something I do with students when I'm teaching them on Zoom! Thanks for sharing this with everyone. I'll probably make a video covering it at some point 🙂

Another tip for those trying to get your loop off ice, if you have a spinner, you can use them to get that hook before the jump, using it for about a 1/4 rotation before the jump instead of some hops before the jump.
This will more closely simulate the hook before the jump on ice, and slowly increase the amount of rotational energy you can generate from your legs before the take off.
You can also use this in the salchow to simulate the turns before the jump
