@@bobbystriglio no its stupid and and goes exactly against the concept of time attack which is the absolute fastest lap possible the shootout is a good idea to allow the fastest cars to run on a clean track even WTAC has it but the difference is that all laps count no matter the session
Yeah the do or die vibes you get from it can really take your head out of just putting down a smooth lap. Great for spectating, but not so much as a competitor
I went 4 wheels off in my first podium sprint as well. It’s a terrible feeling and the most annoying thing to drive it back in afterwards. I understand Ben’s mental state. Don’t be embarrassed. You learned something and you’ll be better in your next podium sprint because of it
These are my favorite episodes. Where we can see the trials and tribulations of real racing. It’s not always podiums and class records. But the level headed minds during everything is a good reminder of how we all should be.
Man, Thorn, that hurts to watch. So much respect for being out there, racing wheel to wheel, and putting it all on the line. Even moreso for the willingness to share the ups and unfortunate downs with TH-cam. Lin, if it's any consolation, I'd 100% have thrown away my most important laps, too. Keep it up, dudes! It was an awesome episode nonetheless and I'm eager to see the Civic get fixed.
You really did make the best decision cutting right. At the end of the day she’s fixable and the best thing is no one got hurt. Live to race another day
Given that Ben wasn’t in a position to see the S2K until way too late, that instinctive flick to the right was exceptional. Turned that into a trip to the body shop from what surely would’ve been a couple trips to medical. Way to go, man.
How baller to go from the track straight to a mental reset street drive. Passion is important, especially in racing but having that immediate outlet to think and decompress is amazing
You're getting pad knockback. When you jostle that corner on a curb for example the pad vibrates for a second which causes the pistons to retract a bit. Then when you apply the brakes next they have to take up the slack :/
I agree. When's the last time the calipers were rebuilt? I had same issue after car sat for a year. Pistons got gummed up. Rebuilt and added anti knockback springs, that fixed it .
@@GalliJZ indeed, cheapest/easiest way to fix it is to practice a couple taps of the break pedal just before the brake zone to make sure the brake system is pressurized and all the components are in contact.

Glad you're alright, that looked like a proper code brown. I've always loved your Grid Life coverage, the races and rider interviews have been amazing. Also: "I just... went for a drive." That's perfect.
These interviews with the drivers reminds me of the first couple videos you guys ever made at gridlife. Following the two friends in their shoey bet, and the domination of James Houton in the Integra. Such a good vibe and I'm glad it's back.
Stoked on the new Valvoline Livery. Y'all were a big component on me switching from Mobil 1 in all my cars, to Valvoline, and specifically VR1 Syn 10w-30 in both of my Z06's. Keep pushin Bens!!!
I love that Ben and Eric Kutil knows the lightweight civic are at a slight disadvantages from the vettes but they are sticking to their rig and taking on the vettes with dedication. Well done gentlemen
Enjoy the camaraderie and rivalry you have with racers in the same class. Very wholesome to see racers against each other, and genuinely congratulate each other, and show concern for each other. Especially when some of them literally helped to build vehicles they’re racing against. Too many races from very large commercial events where fights almost break out because someone’s ego is hurt too much to accept an apology from another competitor. Love your videos! Made me want to work on my own Honda more, and not farm it out for general maintenance.
Boys, what an awesome video. I've never come across such an engaging production for guys running on the track, let alone official race events. Love the warts and all. It makes the build videos seem more important as well, knowing that whatever you do there will have direct implications on the track - unlike other TH-camrs that are throwing on aftermarket parts or doing some fabrication, then just selling the car or putting it under covers One suggestion - take the 2 minutes to show us a whole lap from in car perspective, one shot. Narrate us through what you are trying to do, either in car or in post. A few other channels have done this and was really well received. Don't forget that we aren't just watching you for mindless entertainment, we're living vicariously through you. Yes, I'm watching this video when my evo 8 is sitting in garage needing coil overs adjusted!
Build series are always going to be popular, but I absolutely love seeing what you go out and do with the cards. Gridlife content is always my favourite. Mix of GLTC and Time Attack was great.
At 8:57......this is my new "pick-up line"! Ben, you are too smooth! And the hand clapping provides a little visual and audio enticement. Nice, very nice. And she is ready for you, Ben!
It's nice to see a Czech flag on Eric Kutil's Civics window to pay homage to his ancestors :) Fun fact: Kutil means crafty/DIY man in Czech :D Soo fitting
I'm glad everyone is safe. You made a good split second decision to go right. Hope the repair goes smoothly, looking forward to more content. Love this channel
I think finals or superlap finals is pretty nice in TA, it makes it more of an actual race day, with some kind of pressure to deliver when you need to, and sets it apart from a track day. Good luck with the rebuild!
Racing is inherently a destructive sport… whether it’s extreme wear on the mechanical components or actual accidents. It’s tough to see your pride and joy all beat up but glad everyone’s ok! Can always rebuild a car and come back.
Crazy how fast that S2000 came! From being blind not seeing that spun car sitting stationary, with just that much time it was one of best scenarios as Ben put it - better than T-boning the S2000. Tough luck!
Amazing to see the level of sportsmanship you discussing what happened with the guy you hit and both just laughing it off and reassuring eachother that it's all good.
I just went for a drive. The whole reason i love cars track driving modifications and all stuff is cool and fun but at the end of the day if you cant just got for a drive because you are so frustrated whats the point if even having the car. So much love ❤❤❤❤
A few thoughts - Thank God you're all ok. You have lots of experience on Civic body work now. You have Mark. And you get to keep doing what you love - blessings!
new time attack rules are totally messed up, i see a downturn in participation. time attack at its core has always been about pushing yourself, your car, and your wallet to its absolute maximum to get one clean lap faster than everyone else. requiring consistency of any kind is really disappointing. this will result in wins based on technicality, not driver skill/how fast your car is
Bro, that moment when you are about to start towing it where you just took a step back and looked at it. I could just feel the pain in that moment. Almost made me cry.
Props to Ben for realizing he was getting emotional and being able to calm himself down! I’m sure it would be horrible to watch your entire weekends progress thrown out the window
Thorn’s reaction really threw me off in the best way. I got so emotionally invested in the build and as a result was frustrated when he wiped out. But to see his reaction and how he’s dealing with it? Absolute legend. My favourite series by far! 👌🏼🙏🏼
when I saw Ben driving toward the gas station on Saturday while the race was on, I knew something wasn't right, I wanted to go chat with him, but my senses told me not to. I was at the gate on my shift. Keep it up, guys.

Sorry about the civic Ben, unfortunately it’s the possible reality of racing, I give you both lots of props for following your passion and getting on track even if you are not decimating the competition….people have to see what it takes to be out there, the highs and lows!!!!
When I ran TT with my evo I had similar brake consistency problems. Chased it for a long time. Ended up being pad knockback. The fact that it got better with fresh pads might be an indication. Try tapping the brakes slightly with your left foot before the brake zones and see if that makes it more consistent. I broke down and got the AP racing kit and never looked back.
