  • As part of CelesteCommunity's event for Celeste's 5th anniversary, we showcased the True Ending TAS live on twitch! This video's thumbnail was made by Comet, and live commentary was provided by tmcalvins, Lmjacks, and Marlin. The source video file was recorded by Vamp, and can be viewed in higher quality and without commentary here: • [TAS] 32:22 True Endin... . Thanks to all who made this possible!

    Since the last encode of this category on July 18, 2022, improvements to this category were provided by: calvin, Vamp, exopta, linn, Cr33pyCat, Hane, Marlin, Knox, Mika, Ella, Tyran, arti, skun, sashabell, and Lozen.
    Additional TAS authors: cake, Lmjacks, fishmcmuffins, TheRoboMan, tong815, masrock, fengyz, zball, wafer, lanbing, Misuki, Teo, Vasher, Algorythm, atpx8, Firethief1, and abiteofdata.
    In the last 6 months, the True Ending time was improved by 1 minute and 52 seconds, with the vast majority of that timesave coming from the newest Celeste TAS jank: spinner/lightning stunning. In short, spinners and lightning load on a three frame cycle to improve game performance, with each entity being randomly grouped into one of three offsets. Critically, on the frame the game is paused, the cycle timer advances but the check to load hazards is bypassed. This means that by repeatedly pausing on every 3rd gameplay frame, it's possible to completely prevent one of the three hazard groups from loading-even as Madeline passes directly through the unloaded hitboxes. This tech can be used to perform skips and maintain speed in isolated rooms of 6a, 6b, and 7a, and is then exploited to the fullest in the final checkpoints of Farewell, allowing Madeline to build up staggering levels of speed and skip the last 7 rooms entirely. Enjoy!
    Detailed timesave over the 34:14:
    2a: 0.153 sec (-9f)
    3a: 0.391 sec (-23f)
    5b: 0.153 sec (-9f)
    6a: 1.292 sec (-76f)
    6b: 10.319 sec (-607f)
    7a: 1.479 sec (-87f)
    8a: 4.675 sec (-275f)
    9: 1:33.653 (-5509f)
    Note: this TAS does not employ Save and Quits as a means of saving time. Doing so would result in a faster In-Game Time, but only by replacing periods of no control in game with time on the menu. It never adds routing complexity, and since it creates more down-time, all uses were removed in mid 2022.

    As mentioned in the description, the vast majority of the timesave over the previous upload comes from the newest Celeste TAS jank: spinner/lightning stunning. Celeste has evolved from "spikes are just a suggestion" to "spinners are just a suggestion", to now "spinners are *really* just a suggestion" and "rooms are just a suggestion." Soon it will be "the game is just a suggestion." Finally, the TAS will clip through the space-time continuum in order to beat the game before it was created, saving infinite time and leading to the unravelling of the entire universe.

    The end to this TAS was utterly amazing. I was interested to see how the final room could be optimised but I expected nothing like this.
    Likely this is a silly idea, but I was able to deload an invisible barrier once during testing of speed buildup; I believe by overlapping the player with the barrier. If any of you are aware of a method to achieve this from below, such as a forced uncrouch, could spinner stunning allow fast access to the 7a heart? Lots of hypotheticals in this strategy so I expect this isn't plausible.

    • @tyrannicalthesaurus4672
      @tyrannicalthesaurus4672 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way to unload a barrier is to be inside it on the very first frame you enter the room, which is definitely not feasible in 7a heart

      @trionhd7223 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tyrannicalthesaurus4672 what type of barrier are we talking about? Things like the one preventing search Skip and the farwell ceiling? I know this works for key doors but These arent really barriers?!

    • @tyrannicalthesaurus4672
      @tyrannicalthesaurus4672 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@trionhd7223 for all entities, they arent loaded until the room itself is loaded. One example of this is a roof tile clipping, where in 3a roof the tiles that make up the floor are actually entities, so you can get cornercorrected into them when entering the screen transitions. This same principle also applies to barriers (like the ones in 5a and 7a heart), but the difference is that when you enter the room while inside a barrier, the barrier will never load back in
