initially they are the best warriors in the expansion of islamic sultanates. It's just like the best commandos in modern army. but after so long times, so wide areas, its starts corrupted. some explained its internal conspiracy by internal administration in the new territories. the central power loose control at the far territories. later it spread and become worsen and exploited by the enemies to weakened the sultanate power. at the end the sparks rebellion among young generations because this group control by certain group or clan, and starts independence movement among other muslim territories.
Unfortunate that you need to glorify the subjugation of Christians
Brother how create this video
Mostly non ottoman, they used serbian kids to fight their wars
What a load of bollocks. You present it as if it was an honour for an 8 year old to be taken from their family and join the training and the ranks.😂 These were hundreds of thousands of abducted Christian mainly Greek children from their families. The epitomy of misanthropism in a word. Jenissaries. Kids that were turned against their own kind and families. Children that were turned into islamic weapons. I wonder why that sounds familiar even today?
“What a wonderful army will that army be”
“What a wonderful leader will the leader be.”
Allahu AKBAR. Rest In Peace FATIH SULTAN MEHMET HAN. Thank you Sultan, because of your courage, and the Help of ALLAH, the of the Islam, the flag of the Turks is still flying on the soil of Constantinople to this day.

Not just only Muslim but Janissaries concept start at Xiongnu empire when Turk tried to raise a Chinese (Li clan) to be Janissaries (slave army) but Chinese never betray China that why this concept has pause.
It can be said that Sokullu (Sokolovic) Mehmet Pasha is the most well-known and respected among the Ottoman grand viziers. He was a Janissary and was educated at the Palace school due to his superior intelligence and abilities. He served as grand vizier during the reigns of Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim II and Murat III. He was married to the daughter of Selim II. One of his brothers was the high priest of the Serbian church. His father and other siblings became Muslims. They lived in Istanbul. He was one of the most influential and successful statesmen in the world of his time.
Indeed. He's the most powerful Sadra azam vizier. He control the world. But Christian always spin make stories their own. Selim ll never shadowed by mehmed pasa. I hope Muslim worlds didn't believe everything what Christian thought
@@ejayaziz470 Disagree, kporulu Mehmed Pasha was the most powerful Grand Vizier of Ottoman Empire.
@@ejayaziz470 I understand your concern. Sokullu Mehmed Pasha was a person who devoted himself to the Islamic Religion. He did not miss his daily prayers. Like all Ottoman bureaucrats, he had an extremely serious, even frightening, dignity towards foreigners. At this time, the total number of Janissaries was less than 12,000. Some of them would be in large centers outside Istanbul. The main power of the Ottoman Empire was the Muslim Turks and the relatively small number of other Turkish-speaking Muslim nations.
@@kavvameSokullu Mehmed Pasha was influenced by Birgivi who was influenced by Ibn Taymiyya' who was a 'Salafi'. So, I don't believe that he was such popular and loved...

No dude it's not impartial. He calls the steppe tactic of fake retreat, which was widely used by the Ottoman Empire, a defeat and thinks that only the janissaries saved the day.No wonder the Turks repeatedly led their ancestors into this trap
Unlike what was portrayed in Hollywood movies, families were looking forward to have their child to be taken as part of janissary training. The chance of higher mortality rate and having a lavish, successful life were something these families hoping to get. It's a secured future

At that time, every family had many children and families gave their children voluntarily because they had more chances and duration of life in the Ottoman Empire.
That sounds delulu. Balkan Christians to this day carry resentment and bitterness for the stealing of their children by Ottomans in order for them to be raised as Muslim warriors and return to oppress the very people that they hail from.
I wonder if you would feel the same way if Israel took away Palestinian children and raised them as Jewish IDF soldiers, so that they can keep subjugating the Palestinians. Could we then characterize that as Palestinians having many children and so they donated some to the Israelis so the kids can have a better chance at life?

Possibly most priveledge corps of Ottoman army were Solaklar meaning left handeds and then Baltacılar meaning Men using axes. Solaklar, they protect directly sultan. They basically move with Sultan, live with Sultan. They are always around Sultan very close to him. Even grand veziers can not pass them. They managed Sultans visitors. They were part of Baltacılar core which basically protect Palace, sultans family, inner chanbers. These were selected from jannisaries. Most common features of these guards was that they were literally huge. Generally as tall as 2m. You can visit Topkapı Palace and see their chambers. Their seats are so high if you are not around 2m, your legs will not touch the floor when you sit
El Turco, the famous Janassari of Italian village of Morena still he is still celebrated today

There reason that christian kids were selected that Ottoman sultans wanted absolute loyalty. Kids from Turkish families would never be able to break apart from their families, strong noble families would influence conscriptions, promotion and would plaque the system etc. Ottoman sultans other than initial period, married to slave women who had no bond to anybody, so that these women would not seek favor for their families. Ottomans achieved this absolute loyalty for a long time. Ottomans did not allow nobelty. There was only one true royalty that was Ottoman Dynasty. All other things had to be achieved by hard work and by sultans grace. Grand veziers, veziers were crazy rich and these were boys coming from devsirme system.
Exactly, in the battle of Beyazıt and Timur Turks chose the Turkish side.
Again and again, the Yeniceri, were not the elite in the ottoman armed forces, their job was mainly the same as the Praetorian Guard from the Roman Empire. The elite force in the ottoman army and who joined crucial operations were the Akıncılar which evidently had a huge impact on operations from the ottoman army for sensitive tasks before, during the battle and behind enemy lines.
Correct, and this was a last stand and most of them were eunicks hence the shortened term of service, well trained yes,and it failed to mention the fact that they overthrew the caliphate

great videos
My friend, thanks for this great video and very nice narrative! 99% is right! Very good work 💪👍👍However, the greatest attack human warriors force was the AKINCI’s and especially the DELI’s.
Janissaries (yeniçeri) were the special protecting force of Sultan and maintaining the security in the Payitaht (capital).
😉
Let's correct a mistake. Sultan Murad, the retreat tactic in the Battle of Varna is a Turkish war tactic that has been going on for thousands of years. The name of this tactic is "Ricad". A fake retreat used to attract the enemy on the battlefield. In many Ottoman wars, this Ricad is described as if the Ottomans were losing, their army was losing, but they won the war at the last moment. I think this stems from ignorance about the doctrines of war.
In addition, the Ottoman elite army was not only Janissaries. The number of Janissaries in the army was maximum 10%. The main striking force of the Ottoman Empire was the Sipahis, Akincis, Deliler and Kapıkulu Infantry.
this also happened prior to battle of varna , in civil wars between mehmed celebi and musa celebi , mehmed celebi has the upperhand with both wings are winning and musa is about to retreat prematurely making the jannissaries corps think it was tactical move only to make mehmed does frontal assault againts them and turned the tide the battle instanly
Nice video thank you man
Even when a sultan comes to the throne, his name was written as the 1st janissary in the janissary notebook, he is assigned as the 1st janissary. In the battlefield, no one can reach the sultan until the last janissary dies. A janissary can be executed only by another janissary.
That was very interesting, i never heard of them before, they were well looked after and very clever about hygiene. No wonder they were strong and able. Clever too. Im hooked.

Some of the most famous Janissaries include George Kastrioti Skanderbeg, an Albanian feudal lord who defected and led a 25‑year Albanian revolt against the Ottomans.
He was not janisarry he was sipahi officer
Back in those days the countries ruled by the ottomans payed so called blood tax by giving their 1st born male child to the empire and they would become Janissaries. As someone born and raised in Bulgaria from Ottoman descent I always find it interesting hearing about those time and be thankful for the significantly better times in 2025.
Blood tax is coined by the so called European Orientralists Scholars to Demean any Non European history. In that time you were one of the richest Ottoman Country. Now you become the Battle Pitch between the West and any Eastern power.

Actually there were better soldier group called Akıncı, they were frontiers who pass behind enemy lines and break their supply lines. But they were smaller groups of soldiers but much more skilled fighters.
No matter how good the AI voice is it makes me feel sick after 5 minutes.
Janisarries were only infantry part of Priveledged Slave Haushold troops. There were more priviledged corps such as Kapıkulu Suvarileri meaning roughly Slave Household Cavallary. These were comharable to Europian knights, best horses, best armors, best traning., like jannisaries.
Your grandfather is you ancestors your father is your lineage turkeys military world renowned
bravery comes from faith in Allah they were brave cuz they were Muslim
Sorry but Jannisarries was only bodyguard and executionist of Sultan's order. Tunnellers, builders, army musicians are unrelated to Jannisarries. Jannissaries reach the highest number at 2. Wien siege which were about 15-20 thousands. And most of them was security chamber around the Pasha.
Another military section which is often mixed with Jannisarries as called Basibozuk (broken in the head). This unit was counted as irregular soldiers and they have to earn their own money. They can be thought as freelancers, have certain rights of course but usually extremely talented soldiers who believe they can make their own living by themselves. Most of the stories mixed them with Jannisaries because they were kinda wearing similar but not same clothes to spread fear the enemy they fight.
For example in Wien, the infamous church, St Stephan has Turkish soldier on its wall. Most people believe its a Jannisarry but actually a Başıbozuk. A nomadic Turkish hair style and some other details make me sure he was certainly Bashibozuk.
Ottoman's army mostly consisted of Sipahis, Akıncı soldiers and rest follows that in smalller numbers.
The right pronunciation is Yeni Cheri which means New Army. It was not founded by Osman Ghazi. There are 2 sources. Most of the historians would say the Yenicheri ( romanized Janissaries ) were founded by the sultan Murad I. while others would say by his father Orkhan Ghazi. their numbers fluctuated and had never been fixed to 6000 as the video is mentioning, over the years they were allowed to marry and have kids which were drafted in the Yeni-cheri hence their numbers and influence increased. Their total number went up to 30 or 40.000 soldiers during some Sultan's reign. unfortunately the corrupted Ottoman system infected the Yeni-Cheri their numbers diminished down the road and Mahmoud II surrounded their barracks around 1826 and bombarded them in what was called the Auspicious event , which was in reality a slaughter. over 7000 Yeni-Cheri were killed the rest executed. Only a minority escaped or was imprisoned or banned. He formed a new army called the Mansoury army including the Sepahi Cavalry.
"Sultan mahmud two" is incorrect, "sultan mahmud the second" is correct
Equivalent to Templers Knights on other side of Europe, probably???
Great warriors both sides.
Actually no not the Templars .. Their real enemies were “ The Religion” the Knights Hospitallers…who was better well Siege of Malta answered that question 1565! … 6000 Maltese and knights ( of which only 600 were knights ) vs 35000 to 40000 Ottomans (6000 of which were Janissaries) … well let’s say there used to be a saying in Turkish … Malta Yok … That’s what Suliman the Magnificent ordered be said when his entire army ( including almost all Janissaries) were wiped out… “Malta does not exist” used to deny the existence of a reality …
the narrator of this video makes the janissaries more amazing.

When I see janissaries I think of AC REVELATION
Janissaries were a balloon army.. They were simply bodyguards of the sultans who never relied on Turks.. that is why they were chosen from Christian families and all their ties with families were cut.. the only master was the Ottoman Sultan..
All the success on the battle field always belonged to "Timarli Sipahis" who were Turkish and during peace time worked in agriculture...
So janissaries are just a fairy tale..
ne güzel saçmalamışsın kardeşim ya. Hangi kaynaktan aldın bu bilgileri? Hangi tarihçi Türk yada yabancı yeniçeriler balondu dedi? Hayatında hiç kitap okudun mu?
The First:
What enabled this Islamic state, while only numbering twenty or thirty million, to preserve its life and existence in the face of all the large states of Europe was the following idea in its army, which arose from the light of the Qur'an: "If I die, I shall be a martyr; and if I kill, I shall be a ghazi." They met death with complete eagerness and longing, laughing in its face. They always made Europe tremble. What in the world can be shown that will give rise to such elevated self-sacrifice in the spirit of a simple-hearted soldier? What patriotism can be instilled in its place? What can make him willingly sacrifice his life and all his world?

Keep in mind that Ottoman Empire was the only major empire where a slave boy could have the chance to raise to become even Grand Vizier, who is second in power only to the Sultan.
When Christian boys are harvested, the most intelligent ones were being sent to Enderun school which was providing the highest quality of education in the world at that time. Upon graduation, they were accepting high profile roles in the empire, and could even become Grand Viziers. Therefore knowing this, many Christian families were actually sending their boys voluntarily to the Ottomans where they would have a much better chance, rather than rotting at the harsh farming fields, fighting with infectious diseases and enduring raids from neighouring villages and countries etc..
And those not selected for Enderun, were being sent to Janissary Corps to be trained as hard core combat units in the empire and would become 'Kapikulu', i.e a kind of personal guardians of the Sultan and was only answerable to the Sultan.
They enjoyed many privileges which were not necessarily available to other subjects of the empire.
@@lonelywolf1480 The White slave owners had similarly good reasoning for separating Black children from their parents. Black children being 'harvested' by White slave owners for the betterment of the slaves, better food, they could even gain their own freedom and become slave owners themselves. Mate that is a poor analogy.
We are not talking about just free foods and freedom here.
Janissaries enjoyed privileges that were not enjoyed by other members of the empire.
Also, were any black slaves given access to an excellent education system, and had a chance to become prime ministers (similar to Grand Visiers)?
Janissaries had to power to even dethrone the Sultans. Any example of black slaves having the power to change the presidents?
