    El Camino is obviously different because it’s structured as a film and not a TV show, but I feel like it fits as a perfect piece in the Breaking Bad puzzle. Did Jesse NEED a concrete ending? Some would argue he didn’t. But as someone who watched Breaking Bad for the first time and immediately went into this, it was perfectly fitting to me.

    • @jjpark98
      @jjpark98 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I can see both sides. Without the ending, it was just left up to your own interpretation and head canon as to what happened to Jesse. But at the same time, it is nice to know the man made it out alive and is now going to live a peaceful life in Alaska.

  • @JordanWylde_
    @JordanWylde_ ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Vince Gilligan confirmed, as did the radio news, the time from Oxymandias and Felina was six months, that’s how long Jesse was a slave.
    With Jesse being a drug dealer and murderer, you could argue he should go to prison but after all he’s suffered, if anyone deserves a break, it’s Jesse.
    Jesse telling his parents what happened with him is on him alone reminds me of Walt telling Skyler the truth.

  • @Bodypit1
    @Bodypit1 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Waiting those 6 years you mentioned, seeing Jesse go through that last push for his freedom, and then ending the film to him driving away like in Breaking Bad, yet this time not crying and hysteric but smiling and serene... it sure made me emotional. And the most beautiful thing about the ending is how he was finally in control. After all the hardships he had gone through, others using him and telling him what to do, he had finally earned his freedom and taking that control which Jane talked about. El Camino might not be as perfect as a single film as Breaking Bad was as a series, but even alone just seeing Jesse to finally have a good ending was worth it imo. And when you think about it it didn't really take anything away from Breaking Bad. It ended the same exact way: Jesse driving away.

    I know you didn’t include it in this edited version, but when Jesse says “you did the best you could” I think everything he said was genuine. I think he meant it, because he knew he was never going to see his parents again, and he didn’t want them feeling guilty or heartbroken.

    Jesse and his parents had a very rough relationship, but in the end of the day, they did loved and cared for him.
    That being said, the biggest obstacle between their reunion was police that observed his parents 24/7.
    So…Sadly, that the last time they talked.

      I don't really agree with that interpretation at all. Tod never seems to me like he enjoys causing suffering, he's just incredibly apathetic to doing so. That extreme apathy to human suffering is the main thing that I think defines tod. I think Tod just doesn't really get that what he's doing is awful.

    Here in Albuquerque, at the height of the Breaking Bad fandom, we used to have a BB RV tours ran by a family who's kids used to do a lot of cosplay at the local conventions, they were pretty tight knit with the BB producers too. They used pretty much the exact same RV as the show did, and of course for this scene in El Camino they needed one, so I heard they asked the RV tour guys for their Bounder to use for the movie. People also made jokes about Todd, whose actor had gained weight for a movie role. My favorite fan theory about that is that he still looked the same as in BB, but he looked fat in this movie because this is all told from Jesse’s perspective and that’s how he chose to remember him lol.

    This was the perfect ending for Jesse.
    Also Barry is another show with a conflicting protagonist who makes morally awful decisions, but you wanna root for him to get away. It’s about a hitman who wants to become an actor. I highly recommend it because it’s so unique.
    It’s like a dark action/dramedy. It’ll have you laughing your ass off, but it deals with serious crimes. The final season especially gives me Breaking Bad vibes because of how depressing it can be & how one character does something redeeming exactly the same way Walter did.

    I'm so happy you did this movie on a Friday which means we still get your premiere of Better Call Saul tomorrow. "Friday Night El Camino" was a great bonus! Great reaction. I hinted to you (without spoilers) that El Camino was the only thing in the Breaking Bad Universe that I was disappointed with and it had EVERYTHING to do with "Fat Todd." It took me out of the story when I watched it. Jesse Plemons (from the most famous Friday Night show of all time, the classic, multiple Emmy award-winning "Friday Night Lights" with Michael B Jordan, Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, 4 of the hottest actresses of the 2000s and more) is now one of the busiest and most talented actors of the day. He's already been an Oscar nominee (Power of the Dog), likely will have another Oscar nomination next year for Killers of the Flower Moon, and is currently up for his THIRD Emmy (costarring with MCU Wanda, Elizabeth Olsen, in Love and Death). I was madder at Gilligan for not using some de-aging or thinning VFX technology to make Todd appear even somewhat closer to his appearance at his DEATH. It'd be one thing if his character was still alive but the guy couldn't have gained 50 lbs after he died. It was so frustrating for me. But, one fan made me feel better about it about 18 months after El Camino came out and said to think of it that it was Jesse's recollection that Todd was heavier (since all of the Todd stuff took place in his mind) because the character was so terrorizing to him. Anyway, because of my "Fat Todd" issue, I had NEVER watched El Camino a 2nd time until I just watched your fantastic reaction. And now I feel better about it. So, thanks for taking me on that journey with you. REALLY looking forward to YOUR long, but amazing Better Call Saul journey. The show is fantastic and, just like Breaking Bad, gets better and BETTER and BETTER (Call Saul)😁 as it goes along. 😃

    I highly recommend you watch the Fargo series to see more of Todd.
    Great actor.
    He's married to the girl who originally played Mary J. Watson in the Raimi Spiderman series. She's also in that series.

    I don't have verification, but I heard that Todd’s actor (Jesse Plemmons) had gained some weight for another acting role during this time of filming.
    'El Camino' is a great epilogue to BrBa and has a lot of nice Easter eggs in it. As Jesse drives off at the end, he is wearing a turtleneck sweater that pays homage to when Walter was wearing a similar turtleneck in season 1 (when Hank offered to take Walt out to see a drug bust). The turtleneck represents a big life change for them both.
    *'Better Call Saul' vs 'Breaking Bad' No-Spoilers talk*
    BCS does have an advantage that it piggybacks off of BrBa. It is written so incredibly well and mixed with Easter eggs, foreshadowing, callbacks, etc. to link both series that in unison with BrBa elevates both shows. It is both a prequel and a sequel.

    To me El Camino felt like a lower-tier Breaking Bad episode.

    Still don't understand why this movie needed to exist. It was pretty obvious from his final scene in Breaking Bad that he got (compared to the other characters like Walt and Hank) a happy ending. Nothing in this movie was a surprise, was pretty much what you'd expect would happen after escaped Jack's lab.

      Definitely a valid opinion but I do think this was a good "sequel" and am satisfied that this is the chronological end of the franchise

      Better Call Saul is very different, weird comparison. While Jesse's future was obvious, that car busting out of the prison was a clear metaphor, it was a mystery why Better Call Saul would explore Jimmy McGill. It wasn't like "Yeah, I already know what's going to happen here."@@mr.monkey354

    It’s funny how it felt nostalgic to return to this world, even though this was released in between Seasons 4 and 5 of Better Call Saul 😂 Robert Forester passed away right after this premiered and this was one of the last things he filmed.
    After giving us yet another satisfying ending, it was at this point I knew they’d stick the landing in giving us the final few seasons for Better Call Saul. Can’t wait for you to get into it. It’s almost like having to hit the reset button to build things up again after the extreme moments of the end of BB, but this origin story of Jimmy McGill is something we didn’t know we needed.

    I’m halfway through Season 6 of Better Call Saul & oh my frikkin gaaawd! It’s so fokken good I’ve been like a betch in the palm of this series hand! I was skeptical of it being near or as good as BB but they pulled it off, it’s just as good & they managed to give it it’s own framework to where it’s not one or the other but 2 epic masterpieces. Vince Gilligan & his team are modern masters above & beyond. I’m so inspired with new energy to continue writing my scripts thanks to them 🙏🎥🍿

    In the months that Jesse was held captive. Todd put on a few pounds, but after a while, he decided to go to the gym so that he could look more attractive to Lydia.
    That's why he's skinnier in the last episode of Breaking Bad. Peace ✌🏻
