  • Eichler-style meets accessibility in this 1950’s era home on top of Magnolia hill in Seattle. Everyone who visits this mid-century home comments about how it is “modern… but a kind of modern you can actually LIVE in.” Cheery and comfortable, this right-sized home with an expansive view is designed to be user-friendly for wheelchairs and sneakers alike.
Carol Sundstrom, AIA, of Röm Architecture Studio and Karen Braitmayer, FAIA, worked together to transform Karen’s own home for her family while developing solutions to design challenges that they could also use on future residential projects.
This project was awarded the 2011 AIA/HUD Secretary’s Alan J. Rothman Award in Housing Accessibility which recognizes the "importance of good housing as a necessity of life, a sanctuary for the human spirit, and a valuable national resource.”

Karen is the kind of person you just want to chill with in the evenings cooking, baking and just being yourself. Lovely lady.

Great Home . . Great Personality. Everything seemed 'open' and 'free' including the owner.

What a great vibe this home has and we all know party's end up in or
around the kitchen and this home allows that to happen smoothly as one
room vacillates into the other seamlessly. Nothing in this home seems
    forced.

Here thinking about building a home and I have been exploring the idea of using a floor plan just like this. I gravitate to mid century modern and contemporary design. I prefer a large bungalow or ranch to a two story. This home is perfect and the way I wish to go. I am short in stature and my husband is tall. I my kitchen at the moment is the worst. We will meet in the near future with an architect. This video will be something I will show him. Many great ideas when it comes to kitchens. Some of my meal preparations take a long time. Love to be seated during some of it and save my back.

First of all , I love these women. Don't you just want to hang out with them & be included in their circle of friends? Second of all, I love that open plan yet the kitchen is in it's own zone that is separated from the living room..

Clean & open yet warm & cozy.the pinnacle of modern archetecture.today rich people buy 12,000 sq.Ft homes of steel & rock but it's not cozy or warm & inviting.or they buy an old castle that has no appeal.give me 2,500sq.ft. Of mid century modern & I'll be happy 4 ever.
