speckled trout fishing in Galveston surf

- started the day off at 61st pier, but after giving most my shrimp to undesirable fish. i decided to make the move to the surf. Croaker in the surf makes it way too easy. it's a lot of fun, but way too easy. Thanks for watching and God bless!

cast across my buddy tam and I twice
catching tam’s line both time. He had the nerve to tell me it’s fishing. you don’t own anything. i gave him a little tone and he moved around. kids these days have no respect.
I realize it's great to see lots of people fishing and hopefully learning about our great resources. With that, I'm glad the summers over. The tourists and folks just popping down to fish 1 or 2 times a year seem to have exploded this summer. I'd be wading or kayaking and suddenly 4 or 5 folks show up out of nowhere making all sorts of noise grinding against oyster, splashing around, yelling, or crowding you.

One thing that sucks about catching. When you leave to put your fish in the cooler, someone tries to take your spot. Thats why i fish with my bucket next to me. Good catching broth. 🤙

@@BrscMC I would love to but I’m not in Texas. I don’t think these trouts come up to California Coast by the Bay Area.

We were smoking 20" plus size Spec's all last week when the wind changed to NW.
Caught about 30, 14" Spec's every morning, then the big Momma's off Surfside & mainly the Quintana Jetties.
I caught a 21" on a damn Cigarette butt!
We were using Corky's only. Texas Chicken Color & a small Paul Brown Purple on top w/ yellow belly.
It was fire every morning leaving at 7am w/ 3 man limits every day. We'd limit out in 10min easy. Some days before sun rise.
Many guys were staying & culling the 21" for the 24's & 26" Bad Momma's.
I did snag a few 17" Pompano's & a bunch of Spanish Mackerel but the wind changed back & it's pretty much died off now. They'll be back though.
The water was so clear, you could see huge schools of 12"-14" Spec's just off the rocks. It was Crazy 🤟

@@BrscMC what really surprised me is that the surf was kinda rough and it seemed to enhance the hook up. I’ve usually had a harder time hooking uo in those conditions. But,…. I was fishing live croaker either.🤔
@@darkhawk6774 they’ve been smashing my bait lately. Hitting it and taking off. Hooking themselves basically I just start reeling and give a few tugs for measure. 😅

Great video man! My son and I were fishing beside y'all for a while at 61st, ended with 1 keeper and a handful right under 15. Then it got a little too crowded with people crossing lines and all that. The shrimp were pretty dam big also.

What length leader do you usually use Brian? That leader looks really long. Always love your videos.
if I’m wading the bayside I typically use 12-18” leader, but when fishing the surf I made the leader longer in case I got bitten off by a toothy critter. Smack or shark, that way I wouldn’t have to retie.

Another question brother…do you use braid and then a mono leader on the other side of that chatterweight? Or all mono? Learning.
I have 30lb braid for my main line, chatter weight, 18” fluorocarbon leader, and size 8 treble. 🤙🏼

Was this Saturday morning?
I was loaded up and ready to go, then I looked at radar and 61st pier cam and saw rain and lightning, unloaded truck and went to work. I was kicking myself in the ass after looking at surf cams in early mid morning and saw it was still pretty flat and clean.
Well tomorrow morning is looking promising, play a little hooky from work and hit the surf. Need at least 1 good day this year.
