When I rebuilt my vacuum pump's seal a couple years ago, I added an inline power steering fluid filter... Helped keep the fluid in top condition. Magnetic with a by pass

MoparMan is an awesome guy to turn to when needing to study up on any jobs for a Cummins if your not 100% on something. Very Knowledgeable, thanks for taking the time to show us what you did on the truck.
Watched your wheels and tires upgrade video and I ended up selling my semi wheels as well because I could never find a good combination for good ride quality. So now looking into some Fuel Maverick’s with 35s I am really liking.

When doing this job, you should also replace the Cam Senor while you have the VP$$ removed. Also when doing doing this in a parking lot...Brake Clean for parts clean up is your friend! The old fuel pump bracket has a gasket at the mounting point at the block that can leak as well.

  • @joeteejoetee

I had a severe oil leak from the tappet cover and saw where it was located and then went to a shop to have to pay ($1000+) for it to be replaced. That cured it - so-far/so-good. After your video (I hind sight) I realize that I could have DIY, but I was very afraid of having to remove the injector pump having only worked on 4 Cyl Gas engines for decades. This truck is my 1st Diesel, and I was ignorant/scared to dive in since I needed the truck for work ASAP. Looks like I will be replacing by myself a Fuel Return Line T Fitting Gasket in my garage soon... Thanks for posting this!

@@AllThingsBoost you can definitely reach in on top of the pump for one and the bottom one is easy they are moreover less you feel for them and then make it happen. And if you ever do another one I highly suggest the bullet tappey covers sold on Amazon for like 89 dollars they have threaded holes for crankcase ventilation and have an o ring built in plus they omit the super thin steel factory one with a thick beefy aluminum piece

I'm assuming you were referring to the tappet cover gasket? Factory doesnt put RTV there, so that would be why. Anytime you find RTV it need to be removed (and reapplied if applicable) other wise the new gasket wont seal properly.

As far as the "Right Stuff" rtv goes, it IS a VERY good product as long as you use the right version of it for the job. There are 3 versions of it that I know of. Black 30 minute which works wells for various oil & fluid covers (NOT Fuel) cover, Black 1 minute which works the same but sets much faster (I use for differentials, valve covers, coolants & such) & then silver. Silver is for head gasket fluid sealant areas & such with Very close together bolt placements, Not bolts further apart. Used for their right purpose, They work very well.
