And I love that making it for you. I'm currently working on my Escape from New York, part 2 video as I read your comment, and we are going to roll the vids out this week. On Sunday I will release part 4 of the Truman Show and Escape from New York starts next Friday.

About the rainfall and his basement that would’ve been flooded; it is shown that they can manipulate the rain and where it falls. Now I haven’t seen the movie since forever so I don’t remember where the rain scene happens but it would answer why his basement isn’t flooded if they would only target Thurman with the rain and not the whole village

Very tight, well paced video. Despite the multitude of subjects discussed, It felt 15 minutes long. I loved your point about Truman's hokey delivery; that's how it seemed to me. I'm just old enough to have seen those kinds of shows on reruns.

I always enjoy watching your videos about movies because they’re so interesting to watch and provide an extensive background of a movie long before it even became a script and the actors weren’t yet cast. I saw The Truman Show in the movie theater when it came out, but I don’t remember much about the details of the film, except for when Truman walks out of the contrived world he’s lived his entire life in.

Thanks Collegeman, appreciate that. It's a good movie, worthy of a rewatch. There is a lot in this film, but they cut a ton of it.

@ While reality television had been around for about a decade, social media and the Internet as we know today didn’t exist yet when The Truman Show came out, i think it anticipated the technology surrounding made up realities and their impact on people and society.

I also watched the "Truman knew all along" this week and I can't stop thinking about this. The awkward position he got is the only time such thing happen in the whole movie... I also rewatched the movie this week but before the he knows it video. But I think I'm going to go with that. He knew all along and possibly the falling light was not the start up point of him digging the tunnel.

There is a lot of stuff in this film. So much that it looks completely different after you soak in many of the deleted stuff and watch it in that context. This channel lives for movies like this one as it has so many nuances.

13:30 Why would they challenge Truman to do a job that involved water? Several reasons:
    1. Truman's reaction tells Christoff if Truman is beginning to overcome his phobia and therefor will either give them time to reinforce that phobia or develop another reason to keep Truman from trying to leave.
    2. It reminds Truman of his fear which serves to focus his thoughts on his phobia rather than thoughts of leaving. And since he's just failed at his job, now his income may be in danger, which is something else to keep his mind off leaving.
    3. It reminds the audience and informs new viewers of the show that Truman fears water without just having a character just come out and say it. You know, "show, don't tell."

    • @RepresentThis
      @RepresentThis  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Sure. All of your points are valid. I still think it's a stupid call on Cristof's part.

For me due to the timeframe I look at what tool Truman uses and I don’t think his house was built solid as it is a studio set.

If I can help a talented man achieve his dreams then it’s money well spent. I honestly wish I could do more. It’s pretty cool. You actually read the novels to these movies. In third grade, my mom bought me Empire strikes back. how easily we forget about the dark ages when the only way I had to get my fix was that stupid storybook and cassette thing. Keep reaching for those stars.

One of our commenters pointed out that they saw a distorted image of an extra or background person that was part of the show crew that monitored Truman near the end of the film and I was unable to locate said person. She was blonde and described as distorted with almost a demonic look. After viewing my DVD I could not find it and it was stated to be somewhere near the end with an overhead angled shot. I did locate two shots similar to this description. The first was when Truman was found missing and transmission was just cut. The other was just after Truman survived the storm and they all stood transfixed. Has anyone seen this person like the commenter described? If the house was made by set builders in the TV industry they may not have followed building laws, and the house is inside a dome where they control the weather. It could be fake concrete. Even if the houses were obviously flimsy, Truman wouldn't know any different. He'd just think that is how houses are. He wouldn't even necessarily learn houses are different by watching TV because a lot of TV's take place on obvious sound stages, and he'd just think that was a more realistic house.

The other analysis of The Truman Show I have is that it is both a direct and subtle examination of the process of filmmaking and television.
What is fascinating about The Truman Show is that it is a TV show filled with actors and extras on a gigantic set clustered all around one man who is not an actor or leading man and is completely unaware of this until he begins to wake up and get curious .
In essence, Truman's reality is scripted fantasy created by writers and directed by Kristof.
Truman is not an actor but much like any actor he is subject to the whims and caprice of a filmmaker/ director in this case, Kristof .
Seahaven is Truman's home but in reality is an enormous series of soundstages, sets and structures composing one huge set.
Married to an actress, raised by actors , friends who are actors.
This film is a monumentally intriguing examination of the artifice and iĺlusion of TV and film production,
    Of the craft of acting.

I’d like to add something I noticed a few years ago. At the end of the movie there’s a scene where the camera is filming the crew who monitor Truman, and I happened to notice a blonde lady on the right side of the screen who has a twisted and distorted face, kind of demonic looking almost. It’s very out of place. I mentioned this in the comment section of another Truman Show analysis video with a time stamp but at the moment I don’t have that information. If you aren’t looking for her it’s very easy to miss. I just happened to have looked at her as the scene started and it was shocking. Everyone else in the room looks normal except for her. I’ve always wondered about the significance of that but I’ve never had anyone else online verify it or notice it or reply to my comment. I’d love it if someone else could look into this.

@ remember it was an angled overhead shot, shot straight down at a 45 degree angle and encompassed the entire monitoring room staff. She is on the right side of the screen, left side of the room. She may be wearing a headset. Sorry I don’t have the timestamp anymore as it’s been awhile and I don’t own the movie anymore. I remember it being towards the end of the movie, after Truman has tried escaping. Last 15 minutes perhaps. I look forward to hearing what you found!
