I just picked up a 2017 compass and i can confirm it is WAY better then previous models. It's much more refined inside with nice leather soft touch materials. It's also really quite an smooth on the road.
I wholehearedly agree with Victor (below). I too own a 14 Compass with the 6 speed automatic transmission. The new 6 speed automatic has totally transformed the MK platform. I am extremely pleased with the performance of my Compass's performance. People NEED to be aware that ALL vehicles performance is constrained when they are NEW and have less than 5,000 miles on them! ALL new engine's need time (and driven HARD) when new so the engine's compression rings have TIME to expand. They need to expand to tighten the seal between the piston wall and the Compression rings. The engine's bearings are not tight as today's machining tolerance's and quality are top notch. Creating that ultra-tight seal between the surfaces of the compression rings and piston walls IS CRITICAL in extracting the highest performance AND efficiency out of any new engine. Have you ever watched how hard NHRA engines are run after they are rebuilt between runs down the drag strip ? They sure don't baby them!
I have a 2016 Compass Sport for a rental while my Civic is in the body shop and, I gotta say that to me it's not a bad little compact SUV. It's very comfortable, it doesn't cost so much in gas and it's pretty roomy. Yeah it's pretty much outdated but hey if I were to buy a Jeep Compass I'd buy a different trim with all the options included.
+Victor Torres Completely agree, drove the Patriot/Compass with the CVT and liked it but hated the transmission. I'm trading in my 2013 Dart for a '16 Patriot with the 6 speed auto can't wait. The new transmission makes a huge difference.
@Victor Torres - OR anyone reading this.. it's been 5 years now, any regrets or what's you feel on it now? I'm thinking of buying the 2013 model. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! God Bless!
I own this Compass and l;ve taken it off-road several times, it performs very well. I use the manual shifter all the time and it even feels like it has more power than being on D. I use the manual shifter for passing on uphills and to help me break on downhills whether it's off-road or paved road. Driving on automatic (without the manual shifter) feels very weak on uphills which is why I prefer to always switch to manual.
People talk bad about it. I drive a Genesis coupe and bought a 2007 Compass as a daily. It's unique and I still like it. At least it doesn't feel like a lifeless fall in place family car CRV or Rav 4
I bought a new 15 Compass Sport with the 2.4 and six speed auto, and my biggest complaints are the transmission, it's a bit clunky, and no dipstick, and the suspension components wear out quickly. Other than that it's been as reliable as a 2001 toyota corolla I once owned. It will last if you take care of it, but that's the key you have to keep up with all routine maintenance and not let one problem lead to another. Basic and reliable, 89k on mine 25 city 32 hwy, always starts and has never left me stranded.
if you get the latitude, some of the hard plastics you complain about disappear. I own one, it's a good car for what it is: an inexpensive solid small SUV with 4WD. Yes, it''s outdated, but i choose it over the Renegade, mainly because I don't trust the Fiat engineering as compared to this. The Renegade's automatic is extremely annoying, and the manual comes only with a tiny engine that requires premium fuel. After ten years on the market, the Compass's main problems have been addresed. The $4000 rebate on the Compass didn't hurt either
My mom test drove a white 2011 Jeep Compass Limited 4x4 5 years ago. The one she test drove did had the uconnect system. She was not a very big fan of the Compass too.
This has a manual transmission, it's actually the most fuel efficient from what I've with a manual transmission. What I like about this is that I don't hit my head when going over bumps, great ground clearance, and upgrading the radio can be done within five minutes (plug n' play design). The downside, four cylinders means you have to obey traffic speeds to achieve the fuel economy ratings. The vehicle is not meant to be sporty so therefore is not designed for speed.
the biggest problem with a manual transmission is it kills the tradein value, because the dealer knows it will be harder to resell, so they give you less for a trade-in value.
it's funny how people get on here and just trash talk about this vehicle but little do they know if they was in a situation where they couldn't get nothing else but this oh they would cherish it. I would get it just to get me from part A and B that all. I think it a cool vehicle I drove it and it was fine to me.
Chris Smith show did. your opinion doesn't matter so please stay off my post. you got your own opinion and I got my opinion so don't even think about open up this can of worm. have a bless day sir
Really? This car is uncomfortable to drive. I rented one a year ago and it was not one of my favorite vehicles. You can get a cheaper brand new car that offers better options and comfort than this. This vehicle was a disappointment.
I went on a long trip in this car and my god, the seats were so uncomfortable. Of all cars I've ridden for long trips throughout my life, this is the worst vehicle yet. I'm sure there are worse but so far, this is the worst one.
People in America are spoiled AF. As for the Compass people want to treat it like a sports car, which is not meant to be. This is an economy vehicle hence why it was fitted with the CVT. Again people want to get performance from a CVT and treat it like shit , the CVT was not designed for performance. This is a great SUV for a daily commuter, If people want to floor the throttle every time on a stoplight buy another vehicle.
To be honest, I'd by this over a Cherokee as it looks less polarizing and actually looks like a minature Grand Cherokee. But comfort wise, the Cherokee might be a bit better and I can get a V6 as well. The Cherokee is better.
2 years ago when my mom was looking for a new small SUV or cross over she just drove a 2011 Jeep Compass Limited and it did had the toach u correct radio in it she said it was all right she was not a big fan of it i think it was the engine since it,s only a little 4 it was a little slow for her she just love driveing V6 she is just use to them the only SUV that she drove with a little 4 engine was a 2011 Nissan Rogue it was a rant car when my mom and my aunt drove to to WI to vist my other aunt her sister since my mom old 2004 Volvo XC90 needed fixing up and it had over 106,000 miles on it she was thinking it was not good for road trips so in Sept of 2011 she trade it the Volvo and she got a 2011 Toyota Venza V6 AWD she has had it for 2 years now she loves it it has over 23,000 miles on it now and nothing had gone wrong it,s been great for her
I have a 2015 with a 2.4 engine with the 6 speed transmission which is a Hyundai sourced dual clutch gear box. The newer Compass' are different, quieter inside, maybe because of its shape and larger engine. It has a sportier ride with the Kumhos it came with. It's not a CRV or a RAV4, but it's not priced like one either. It's basic, looks okay and it's a Jeep so you can hop a curb now and then. I also drove a Patriot with the 2.0 engine and the CVT, and it was awful.
I'm only looking for patriots/compasses after 2014, I've heard horror stories about the Chrysler CVT's. I personally prefer the looks of the patriot but I'm looking at both vehicles. There's a lot of these available in my neck of the woods.
BigSky Family I’ve have this exact model for a little over a year and it’s a nice car, fast and agile while still offering more room, I’ve hit 115mph in mine and the engine is a little loud if you don’t have music but it sounds great.
Love your review, very detailed, but you forgot to mention the fuel efficiency? I love the front design of this compass but I hate the back, it's too wide, like an oldie car for very old male drivers, which is the opposite of the Tiguan where it's very narrow and looks like a granny car. ASX is just perfect, front and back.
Coming from a Jeep lover, I hated this car so much. It was terrible on long road trips. I remember getting out of that car with a back sore. But with the new model, I can confirm they have addressed the seat comfort issue this model had. But yeah, I will never go on another road trip in this car again. That thing hurt my back so yeah, fuck this car.
He glazed over the visibility toward the passenger side. Here's the real scoop. Worst visibility of any vehicle I've owned. Largely responsible for 2 accidents I had against traffic from that side, along with many near misses.
I just rode in a new Compass and wasn't too impressed. Materials felt really cheap, not quality and robust that I would expect from a Jeep. You can tell it was built on a Caliber format, probably one of the worst new cars I have ever driven. It didn't have a CVT and the shifting was very herky-jerky off the line. Once you get past the initial gear changes, it's pretty smooth and has good acceleration. I don't know why people hate on the CVT. As long as it accelerates like you want the thing to, then it is a huge plus vs the often clunky change of gears in most auto cars from the US. Same deal with the new Ford Escape. Clunky gear changes from a typical auto transmission. BTW, the Ford Escape schools this car in about every category, including MPGs. Though I don't like the tacky silver frills on the front fenders.
Well my neighbor that lives cross from my house they oldest girl she just got a bread new 2014 Jeep Compass Limited 4x4 last week in white and even with drank blown or oranage interior it looks so nice and cool!
I'm currently renting one this week on vacation. This thing is junk. Very noisy interior, absolutely zero lumbar support....I'm dying after a long drive to the keys. No backup camera, cheap light controls, and cheaper wiper controls, terrible visibility, and did I mention no fucking lumbar support at all? This would have been great in the 80s
I don't know why Jeep is still making these & the Patriot when there's the much nicer Cherokee that doesn't cost much more even though they're both going to be replaced next year with a single model. I do like the front end way more though than the first few model years of the Compass.
Urgh...yeah, if I want a Grand Cherokee I'd just get one. If I want a compact SUV I'd just get a CRV. Great review but I've never been a fan of the Compass/Patriot.
and the seats are hard and very rough on your back I drive it from Texas to Louisiana worst drive I ever had to keep pulling over ever hour cause of the back pain Chrysler need to do better
Of course it's coarse and unrefined, it's supposed to be a Jeep after all, right, you don't buy a Jeep for refinement or comfort. You buy for off-road, 4 wheeling rough roads and unforgiving terrain, oh wait you can't use it there either, so what 's the point of this, when there are so many other better choices out there?
Honestly I hate CVTs. Never will Like them. I've drove some bad ones, and some worser ones. I personally liked the Awkward looks of a Caliber esp the top trim of the 2012 version. But that CVT ruined what could've been a good SUV. The Compass is no Exception. Could've been a Good SUV. But it Lags the Class in too many areas. It's just Old. And I hate it because of that.
Chris Smith I hate CVTs PERIOD both Good and Bad, new and old.. I hate them all equally. See I'm an American Muscle type of guy. CVTs are GREAT for Fuel Economy, but I drive a Straight Piped 2010 5.7L Hemi V8 Charger, I obviously don't give a shit about Fuel Economy. I like performance and Luxury. A Great 8speed Transmission gives you both Performance on the tap, and true Comfort. CVTs are noisy, and Slow transmissions.... CVTs are only something I'd expect in a rental.
Omarr Longway I'm just telling you not all CVTs are bad. Most CVTs mimic gears (try to be a regular automatic). I don't understand why people hate CVTs so much. They are getting better. They aren't like what they were in the past. This video is a clear example of what CVTs don't do.
don't spend your money on this car don't save gas at all the seats are hard not good on long road trips the Honda Crv or the Toyato Rav4 are better in my opinion
Never will even touch me any ways I`m more of a chevy and ford truck guy any ways that`s the only reason I said that if I was an suv guy I would probably think about it but like I said more of a truck guy.
Floaty ride? I'm renting one of these whiles Eclass is getting repaired after an accident and this thing rides HARSHLY. Every imperfection on the roads surface is felt - it's too hard riding to even consider driving it on a long drive
This car is just simply a piece of junk. Hard plastic, not a true four wheel drive system, went years without updates, ugly interior and very uncomfortable with crappy safety crash testing. Co-worker has one and it blows my mind people would purchase this. No surprise Chrysler had to be bought out.
I have a Jeep Compass and it is anything but cramped,As for duel climate controls, No! This is yet another worthless function that car manufacturers are cramming into cars with no real purpose. Its a Jeep you Tard it only has to be tough enough to occasionally take off road and in my opinion last at least 500,000 miles. I previously owned a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo the good old straight 6 Iron Duke motor 217HP as was only in that one year.I bought it with 203,000 miles on it and sold it with 243,000 miles, and running better than when I bought it. I personally believe that Jeep lost there perspective when selling out to Fiat!
I just picked up a 2017 compass and i can confirm it is WAY better then previous models. It's much more refined inside with nice leather soft touch materials. It's also really quite an smooth on the road.
lilseip-B14 I definitely agree here. The seats are a massive improvement over the old model for sure.
I prefer the Compass over the Patriot. It looks better.

Normally I wouldn't watch a Jeep review, but I love your review style.
I have an 2014 compass, love the 6speed auto trans... Never going back to CVT...
I test drove a 15 patriot yesterday, love the 6 speed auto, big difference from the CVT. Will pursue this vehicle further.
+Victor Torres Completely agree, drove the Patriot/Compass with the CVT and liked it but hated the transmission. I'm trading in my 2013 Dart for a '16 Patriot with the 6 speed auto can't wait. The new transmission makes a huge difference.

cheaper to replace brakes then a transmission. I don't agree with your thinking and I will bet you will be replacing that transmission.

plz make a bit more videos constantly. Luv ur reviews, thank you!

No shit
DonKeyFaRT Yeah. I mean this car is horrible on long trips. The Compass is a back sore. What I mean is that the seats in the Compass are horrific.
Is the 2013 any good ? ' cause I'm about to buy one with manual transmission.

The price is good on these too vs the CRV and Rav
not a dual clutch but a conventional six speed auto.
Note that the 07 and 08 models had a very bad front end... From what I've seen on car complaints they must have improved the suspension since then...
Does they have a back up camera
Extremely thorough review!

@@BillyJoe354same here
They still offer the cvt in the mid range compass
Interior stayed the same, only thing they did was replaced the transmission.
Is it possible for you to review the newer jeep compass (2019)?
Exterior looks decent but the inside looks like a rental car.
I miss the jeep commander tho that was badass
Love your review, very detailed, but you forgot to mention the fuel efficiency? How about 2014 forester? It also comes with CVT.
I don't like Mopar in general but I really love this car!

Got one as a rental car. After a 3 hour trip to Disney, it's shit.
I was just now wondering about that too :/
I'm guessing there was a technical glitch with the rendering process.

I'm looking forward to the 2017 refresh, I'm sure the interior doesn't look dated compared to this model.
Rich Schlam you just didn't get the model with a backup camera, lol.
Take the bus then.
Nice Review Of 2013 Jeep Compass. 😁
My grandmother has that car and I love it
Why do videos if you give bad reviews on stuff you don't like instead of positive this is a nice ride without the crazy chaos price and it has quality
I don't know why Jeep is still making these & the Patriot when there's the much nicer Cherokee that doesn't cost much more even though they're both going to be replaced next year with a single model. I do like the front end way more though than the first few model years of the Compass.
Just got a 2016 one with the CVT its ok..
Acura rex type s please. Love the vids btw :D
Gustavo Sagastume no
When you drive around in an E-Class on a regularly basis, almost every other vehicle will feel like it rides harshly.
Can you do the Limited version?
Hopefully Jeep will release a Dart-based vehicle.
You really should redo this with the new 2014 model. They ditched the CVT and redid the interior.
I love jeep compass 👍💖
gees, I had no idea how bad this vehicle was. you would have to be crazy to buy this over an escape, rav4, or crv
What vmax?
Do one on the honda hrv
The New Grand Cherokee 2014 Overland please!
Ah yes when back then everyone wanted a silent car….now days everyone is looking for this kind of exhaust 😂😂
It's still silent that everyone wants
Thanks Jeep for this re-badged Dodge Caliber.
Scott Fike don't forget taller
It's unfortunate that this Jeep is so bad. It looks quite nice but for me how a vehicle drives is far more important than it's looks.
That interior screams 2007 Chrysler
That's because it is
Urgh...yeah, if I want a Grand Cherokee I'd just get one. If I want a compact SUV I'd just get a CRV. Great review but I've never been a fan of the Compass/Patriot.
It's a Jeep thing this guy wouldn't understand
Jermey Risenburg yes. No one will understand why you like this piece of shit.
Haters gonna hate
and the seats are hard and very rough on your back I drive it from Texas to Louisiana worst drive I ever
had to keep pulling over ever hour cause of the back pain Chrysler need to do better
just trading a patriot for the escape titanium. No comparison the escape outdoes this car in every way possible except maybe off road capability
here where i live we get diesel and 6 speed manual
Diesel fuel is more expensive than regular petrol in the USA. The difference in fuel economy would not compensate for a diesel engine extra cost.
Wow that CVT makes the engine sound horrible. Just wait for the new Cherokee. Yeah, the looks are controversial, but it is way better.
Of course it's coarse and unrefined, it's supposed to be a Jeep after all, right, you don't buy a Jeep for refinement or comfort. sofyan the jeep patriot is my drivers ed car for school and it sucksssss i hate that car! but still nice review!
I thought they cancel this car

don't spend your money on this car don't save gas at all the seats are hard not good on long road trips the Honda Crv or the Toyato Rav4 are better in my opinion
2:24 the old chime!!! th-cam.com/video/61jdT8k0J34/w-d-xo.html
Never will even touch me any ways I`m more of a chevy and ford truck guy any ways that`s the only reason I said that if I was an suv guy I would probably think about it but like I said more of a truck guy.
I almost bought a caliber and when I test drove it the cvt was really loud and it makes the car really slow. To this day, im glad I never bought it.
Its an economy Jeep, It has to be slower to be cheap on gas.
Floaty ride? I'm renting one of these whiles Eclass is getting repaired after an accident and this thing rides HARSHLY. Every imperfection on the roads surface is felt - it's too hard riding to even consider driving it on a long drive
Subaru as well..at least put the cloth or whatever on the back
I'm under the 20st club!
oh no, mr rich man has to drive a jeep :(
This review is hilarious. I can't stop laughing.
What's so hilarious about it? Why don't you create your own video review of this and see how you fare?
Hee hee!! Whts with the hard plastic ... Anywys
Has the video not processed its crappy looking
So bottom line: Jeep, a symphony in cheap.
This car is just simply a piece of junk. Hard plastic, not a true four wheel drive system, went years without updates, ugly interior and very uncomfortable with crappy safety crash testing. Co-worker has one and it blows my mind people would purchase this.
No surprise Chrysler had to be bought out.
Wow, someone hates chrysler
What's funny is that this piece of cheap rubbish has a damped glove box whereas my 2009 Grand Cherokee Overland does not. Makes sense Jeep!
Did you lose weight? You look skinny now.
Iron Duke is a four cylinder made by GM you are confused.
Dag nabit!
STOP THE TAPPING
Biggest piece of scrap ever made!
worst cvt ever!!
stay away
Pretty much. Thank god Chrysler killed off their CVTs.
smells of old chrysler
