I like the form factor mounted on the wall but with only 85CFM, it's significantly underpowered vs the CT15 rating of 130CFM. The cost of the Giraffe is $370, the CT15 $419 and it doesn't seem like the Giraffe has variable vacuum rate. The CT15 does have lower capacity than the Giraffe but the lack of a bag means that the HEPA filter will get clogged quickly and cleanup will be messy - and without a bag, what HEPA rating does the Giraffe hold? Can it filter down to the .3 micron that the Festool does?
Giraffe has a lot of solid features, like the accesory kit, long hose and the ability to roll it up nicely, but it really seems more like a shop vac than an extractor that are going to be best fulfilling separate missions.
You are absolutely correct on all of those stats. After filming I did have to knock a bunch of dust off the filter. I appreciate you taking the time to type out that whole message and including all those stats.
Hey, thanks for the brand comparison! That really helps with deciding. Do you think the remote control one from Giraffe is worth it, or is the regular one just fine? I’m thinking about grabbing one.
It does work well, especially when you aren't close to the unit.
ou can use this vacuum cleaner. I can't connect it to a device without the connection getting in the way
It is much larger than others and I had to use that specific adaptor to get things to work correctly.
You just moved the clog point from one point to another when you put the vac tube into the rubber coupling
There isn't the drastic change in diameter like the festool.
useful🙌
Thanks! I really appreciate you checking it out.
Great information thank you
I'm glad you liked it. I appreciate the support.
Sucks
One that you might move checked out is the new Baur from Harbor Freight. It is a hepa dust collector and might be a good comparison to Festool.
I have gotten that recommendation several times actually. I probably wont do a dedicated review video on it but I will definitely check it out.
Greetings from a fellow TH-camr and Iowa Woodworker. I'm in Crawfordsville just south of Iowa City on Hwy 218. I also work at the Woodcraft there in Iowa City.
Nice to meet another local. I really like the inlayed cutting boards. Keep up the good work.
Check out the new Hercules dust extractor from Harbor Freight. That is a Festool killer, IMO
I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the heads up.
Did I miss the Giraffe sucking up the saw dust, did it clog up,what happend?
I did it as a split screen, top was the Giraffe vac and bottom was the festool.
@@cedarriverwoodworking COOL I'll watch again. keep at it.
Festool makes the best tools if you have the $$ . I have a few, including one of their dust extractors, and I will say they are almost 100% dust free. Their Kapex is still the best miter saw on the market, IMO.
I've really been wanting to try the Kapex. I do really love the domino and their dust extractor does do pretty well.
Really enjoy your builds. Hope your channel does not turn into a tool review channel. I have left channels that have done that. Keep up the good work
Thank you for the feedback, I don't have the intention of going to just tool reviews, I can see that a lot of people do not like them.
Sucks. Great video, nice job of comparing the two products. You clearly stated that the Giraffe is not a dust extraction tool, the Festool is exactly that. I’m currently not interested as I have a dust collection system and a couple of cycloned shop vacs. I would have liked to have seen how well the hose is retracted. That may be a good selling point.
That's a good point, I will see if I can add that into the video. I appreciate the support.
Sucks. $333 without remote, $371 with one, at least on the site currently. I looked, but a few concerns. Didn't hear here or see on the site any mention of the hose being antistatic. Thats important for some, me among them. I get zapped alot currently. Replacement filters, relatively reasonable at $21 on the site. However, there is another issue. The bags reduce the dust hitting the filter, meaning more time in between filter changes. So, without a bag, filter changes are more frequent for a wood worker. Currently using a cyclone and a 5-gallon bucket with a shop vac. I'd keep the cyclone when I upgrade to a dust collector as it does a good job of cutting down the amount of sawdust in the shopvac bag. Meaning less frequent changed bags and filters, giving reduced cost of both filter and bags. The lower suction of the Giraffe makes me question if it has the power needed to run a cyclone in between it and the tool. That being said, it seems pretty nice for a general garage vac. Mounted up and out of the way. The long reach of the hose.
If doing noise checks, there are some decent apps for phones that register decibels. Tones are not that hard to differentiate with mics, but overall noise isn't as easy.
There is a 10% discount if you use the code Cedar at checkout. I did not test this against a standard "shopvac". You are absolutely correct about the bag being in there and having it save the filter. I did bang out the filter after the tests and there was a ton of dust in it. I do not have a shopvac style cyclone, but I would also question if it is powerful enough for it too.
I have been using the heck out of the new Harbor freights dust extractor and love it so far.
@ That's the second recommendation that I have gotten on that one. I'll check it out.
@@rodpotts2666 Its also on my list of future purchases. Would already have it, but got a new table saw instead.
@@Mandurath I saved up and did that last year.
Cool information on a cool tool that suck’s lol 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
🤣🤣🤣 Yes it does! I really appreciate your support.
In my shop, a dust collection is a waste of time.
Why is that?
@cedarriverwoodworking because my shop is an open shop. Witch means it's just an car cover as sorts. Parts are closed in, but not all of it. I get more dust blowing in as I do cutting or sanding.
Sucks and what really sucks is you never gave us a price you could’ve said at the filming of this and then given us the price that would’ve been really helpful
That's a good call out. I put links in the description for it with a 10% discount code.
Nice enough to send it to me. That’s the problem with all you tubers promoting things to sell that you paid nothing for
Yes it is a sponsorship, but I try to leave it open to however you would decide. They do want to promote their item but if it's junk I would include that.
@rogerkern God Almighty AMEN 🙏!
Finally Someone Said It!
I ALWAYS wondered why so many "woodworkers" turned into Big Corp shiIIing tooI promoters…. Now I know it’s the FREEBIES!
Then they try to push their 💩🛠️ on the rest of us trying to get us to believe that it’s good deal/good tool when in all actuality they only used it for about 20 minutes in one day in one single video!! 🫠
MAKE COMMON SENSE COMMON AGAIN! 💯
SUCKS!!! I have to revamp my garage/shop. Interesting option.
I’ve considered Festool to be the woodworkers HILTI. After hearing and seeing several videos and firsthand accounts I don’t think you are getting nearly the quality out of festool for that price tag. HILTI tools are abused, thrown in trucks and gang boxes, lowered and raised with ropes and often dropped. Handed to 200 pound gorillas that don’t care if the company paid $1500 for a drill or $2500 for a vacuum.
Not that I can afford it or that I’m a good enough woodworker to get the advantage of festool, I don’t see myself buying any personally.
I love the HILTI analogy. I use those tools all the time as i am in the trades, but no way do I want to buy on out of my own pocket. I own the domino and it is a huge investment, and also REQUIRES dust collection. I broke a bit once because I didn't have dust collection on there.
I do not like selecting not interested on videos from channels that I am subscribed. I also do not subscribe to channels with tool reviews. One or two check this tool out amongst a few hundred videos on woodworking projects is acceptable. Going to “doing reviews on tools” is not a channel I would continue as a subscriber. I hope that this channel does not end up being primarily review videos.
This video is one I would normally select not interested. Not trying to be anything more than adding input on the content. Also pointing out that I will continue watching this video until the end.
Thank you for the feed back. I guess I meant that I would be showing tools that can help increase efficiency in the shop. I am mostly a build channel and want to remain that way.
@@cedarriverwoodworkingWell Andy I think the idea of your channel going to all tool reviews sucks. Ha ha you asked for that. Looking forward to many years of woodworking project videos.
@ I appreciate the support. In the next week or so I will have a build video out (it does shortly feature a tool) about how to build a woodworking bench for under $100.
You just sold the festool. The idea of screwing on the adapter, really? You think people are going to want to do that every time they switch tools. Look at all the dust left over after your comparison. There something to say about a TH-camr that gets a free tool to do a video on. Oh you didn’t mention anything about the filter on it getting clogged up because we all know it did. lol.
I was merely providing information. I state that if you don't have a vacuum yet that the Giraffe may be a decent alternative but it is by no means a "festool killer". I will still be using the festool because of it's features.
This is mostly BS. Don’t buy either one A good shop and cyclone will do a better job. For $100.00
Good luck getting that setup for that price, but yes that is another option as well.
