Hey, friend, fun fact on the pickle situation with your sister: botulism spores struggle VERY hard to grow in a highly acidic environment, so as long as she follows recipes and/or uses a little too much vinegar in her brine, the likelihood of the spores growing enough to produce botulinum toxin is very, very low. Botulism in and of itself (spores) is nontoxic! Its everywhere! However, it *becomes* toxic when it settles and grows in an anerobic environment (such as a poorly canned jar of low-acid food!) and produces its potent toxin. Sincerely: a home canner who loves making pickles for my pickle obsessed roommate. Its green beans this week!
Oh yeah, people have been pickling stuff for centuries, in Asia and Central-Eastern Europe for instance. I don't understand where all of these botulism fears come from. Use vinegar or sugar, depending on whether it's savory or sweet.
@@soyjoyy Fun Fact- if you use an old pickling or canning recipe (but don't if you have a choice), you need to add more acid because the produce we grow today has a lower natural acid content than back in the old days.
My mother-in-law wrote a bunch of Harlequins in the '80s and they were a trip. They also made me question how my partner and his brother came to be, because her understanding of sex as reflected in these books is . . . questionable. 🤣
It’s always so funny to me when I read unrealistic sexy scenes in books and they’re written by moms 😂 like ma’am you definitely did the do at some point how did you get it this wrong

I was probably 11 when I read my first romance novel. I forgot to pack a book for the roadtrip I was on, so when we stopped at a pharmacy for snacks, I just picked a novel based on the cover (pretty lady in pretty historical dress) and $5 price, only to discover it was a bodice ripper while trapped in a cramped van with my family for >6 hours a day. Too embarrassed to tell my parents so I could beg for another book, I had to endure an entire vacation with only a spicy romance to read, in a time before children had portable electronics, in close quarters with my parents. 😭 I skipped past some pages so fast, I’m surprised the pages weren’t torn out. MORTIFYING
Someone else pointed out the “that’s what all brides say on their wedding night “ line, and considering she his ex WIFE , that doesn’t have the best implications
the 80s weren’t that long ago😭. but i agree, the virginity trope is ANCIENT. i don’t know when it started, maybe with the virgin mary💀 in biblical times
It’s important to try not to split kids up. However, I would choose a safe and loving home/ seeing my siblings often, over being stuck in foster care/seeing my siblings 24/7. But both options have pros and cons.
Vintage romance books tend to be problematic as fuck. But I do love reading them. They are weirdly nostalgic because I loved romance books when I was a baby pre teen. But they are shitty and deserve to be in this book club. Love you for this! You make my day when I see your post 🥰
I used to read all the Cassie Edwards historical romance I could find as a tween and one time I sent her a fan letter and she sent me back a small signed Kodiak snapshot of her sitting with her books. I still have it in one of my photo albums. Her books really helped to provide an escape from a chaotic childhood. As an adult I recognize how problematic her plots and characters were.
Literally😫 I love them so much but hate them at the same time, like I love to diss the male characters (Sir Philip is the worst, and so far Michael is the best as I'm only on book 6) but I can't stop reading them
so confused that women wrote these because WHO finds the creepy man that catcalls you while you fix your car attractive 😭 p.s i found you yesterday, have watched 3.5 videos already, and am SO excited for this one
That's actually tame compared to another romance book I've read. The love interest kept the main character from leaving a town against her will, and she was still attracted to him!
In my experience (on AO3 and also just like as a woman) desirability is considered such a virtue that it can overlook a lot of crimes. That’s why cheating is typically the one and only romance book nonnegotiable. Like, murder, SA, kidnapping, theft, abuse, etc can be forgiven if spun in some sort of obsessive “He just desires me so much” light. And that says so much about our society because I see that same virtue of desirability leading actual women I know to make such awful decisions. And that struggle definitely reflects in women’s literature.
I’ve never been this invested in a book youtuber ever, you’re just so entertaining to listen to? And the atmosphere makes it feel like you’re hanging out with a friend in a coffee shop

about the legion, since it's in France, it could also be the foreign legion or basically a branch of the French army but for foreigners which would fit the bill I suppose?
As a fellow person who extremely dislikes basic romance books, one of my least favorite tropes is the parent or child trope. In almost all of the books I've read or heard of with this trope, the child is almost always used as a tool to push the two love interests together and it feels so icky. Especially when the child in the plot is hardly EVER given time with their parent. Most of the time it isn't even a child trope because the children are always neglected in the plot! It's gotta be up there with the pregnancy trope
I was really into historical romances when I was a teenager. My grandma gave me a Barbara Cartland one time & I was hooked, for a while. Now I'm into books that actually have an interesting story. Fun fact: Princess Diana was a big fan of Barbara Cartland growing up and Barbara Cartland was her step grandma

That makes sense. My friends made a book club (I was 12) where we tried to read our Moms books. Most of them were romance. I can't tell you how many strange romance books came from that group. When we caught the club disbanded, but I still read some romance novels.

I had to quit trying to read most older historical fiction because it seemed like in the first 2-3 chapters the main character was getting assaulted and it was being passed off as hot
Hey! I saw you read the selection books! I know this isn't relevant to the video but the author has another series that starts off with the book "Betrothed" and then the next book is "Betrayed" I really enjoyed it, and the protagonist is pretty fun. I haven't read betrayed yet, but Betrothed was pretty awesome, with fun twists, and heartbreaking endings.
no the second this man’s dogs come after my cats and he isn’t doing anything i like honestly like i’m feeling a lot of anger and i can’t think of anything mean enough to say
When I was a middle schooler I got addicted to reading a super old trashy romance perfectly any novel with a really weird premise my favorite one I found was one with a couple meet in a truck stop bathroom one is a werewolf the other is a human running from zombies . when you started reading the synopsis for the first book I was like there's no way there's no way it was the first book I found in the good will😅 they got me hooked on this genre
I’m so glad we feel the same way about romance novels. Everytime they randomly kiss someone, I have to stop and just think “why did you assault them? Just fucking ask them on a date or if they even want a kiss”😂😂
I read my first romance book when I was 13. It was primarily a crime novel but had a romance sub plot and since Lisa Jackson books can be found in the romance section, it counts more as romance I guess. It was the first time I read graphic sex. I remember thinking, "Is it legal for me to read this if I am under age?"
As someone from the south, yes we will trust random strangers with our keys. I personally don’t, but I’ve had friends who will give their keys to strangers to take them home depending on the place. I literally just let some dude into my house one time for like 10min while I was gardening so he could take a shit. It’s not like I have anything to steal tbh.
I honestly needed this video right now: I work in a bookstore and I’ve been shelving old paperback romance novels for weeks, so I was thinking about giving a couple a try just for the hell of it. I think you’ve fully convinced me that I would be wasting my money 😅😂
Some crazy divorce proceedings in the 1860s! These all sounded like a trip! I never liked or read romances that didn't have anything else going on until I realized how many queer romances there are these days. Now I love them. I thought they had pretty wild and unbelievable tropes but nothing worse than these three! 😂
I started reading romance (usually historical) around 11 or 12. I don't read much romance now unless it has other stuff in it like fantasy or sci-fi or actual historical stuff. I'm currently reading the Outlander books and they really scratch all the itches.
i am livinggg for your content rn, your enthusiasm is so cool and engaging and just makes you vivacious and so fun to watch !!! PLEASE keep making content i will be here continuing to eat it up 🥹
If the adoption agency was trying out how single parents do and they were both planning on raising the child on their own, why would they be paired up in class? Shouldn’t they be making sure they can do everything on their own?

Especially when the child in the plot is hardly EVER given time with their parent. Most of the time it isn't even a child trope because the children are always neglected in the plot! It's gotta be up there with the pregnancy trope
I was really into historical romances when I was a teenager. My grandma gave me a Barbara Cartland one time & I was hooked, for a while. Now I'm into books that actually have an interesting story.
Fun fact: Princess Diana was a big fan of Barbara Cartland growing up and Barbara Cartland was her step grandma
miaou is meow in french, not that it makes much more sense
i‘ve been watching your videos while i get ready for work and get ready for sleepytime, and i saw this video came out RIGHT as i was about to brush my teeth and do my skincare and take my silly little sedative. hell yeah boys im learning about antiquated romance novels 2NITE. also worth mentioning my name is ansley, and we have very similar speech patterns, and it has me fucking rolling bc 9 times out of 10 i’ll think something and then you’ll say it in the video it’s very eerie in a fun way
Dude that’s crazyyyyyyy 🤠 I’m glad you like my silly little videos :)
I cant belive that you dont have more subscritions, you are amazing! I love to listening you, your accent is so smooth and nice. Im currently learning english and youre first person I can listen without subtitles. Sorry for my bad grammar, im trying xD
You're doing amazing! Keep going!
@@Weareallmadheretoo thank you
Omg the innuendos. My dad always called them my mom’s “love pudding” books and I didn’t realize what he meant until I was much older 🫠
"I thought a stagecoach was like a train" took me out I'm sorry that's the line that got me LOL
That makes sense. My friends made a book club (I was 12) where we tried to read our Moms books. Most of them were romance. I can't tell you how many strange romance books came from that group. When we caught the club disbanded, but I still read some romance novels.
NOT THE NIGHTGOWN- THE PICTURE YOU PICKED HAD ME CACKLING LMAO
i've been looking at your blanket in the last few videos & i was so enchanted by it that i started crocheting my own
Ur literally so iconic and funny! im so happy when I saw u posted I already binged all ur vids
Please read the series that Tru Blood is based off, it’s so terribly amazing 😂
I actually love those books
My mom has all of em 🥴🥴 I've been so tempted to read them just for shits and giggles
Oh I love those books.
This series is everything to me 😭❤️
Omg you should read the Red Queen series! I love it and because of your review over the Selection series, I think you might enjoy it!
I was literally thinking that
i literally just found your channel last night, i'm so hyped for more book discussions!!!
i've never actually heard anyone explain why they don't think the landlord complex is unethical so i never understood it but wooof,, you made points. terrifying that in a capitalist society it makes sense but it also gives dystopia. ..
Also ohmygosh your crochet blanket is so freaking cute!
Parking garages at night are just creepy, no matter what you are.
I've literally been binging all of your videos!!! I recently got back into reading and finding your channel is like a gold mine! ❤❤❤
This channel is amazing, I discovered it like yesterday and Im having a blast, I live for people narrating bad rpmance novels to me, its my favorite thing to hear while I draw!
Harlequin romances were wild like, what the fuck?? The insta love and misogyny were all over the place, how the couple fall in love for no reason but because she was a woman and he a man, amazing
New video idea: read the latest book of these authors and see if their understanding of sex and writing got any better.
26 and and unmarried without children. “Woe is me, I’m going to die a childless spinster”… girl you literally have 14 more years before the clock runs out. you’re good
I had to quit trying to read most older historical fiction because it seemed like in the first 2-3 chapters the main character was getting assaulted and it was being passed off as hot
I just binged every single one of your videos and it has been the most enjoyable experience of my life. Thank you
Kyle is giving ron burgundy jazz flute energy
When I was a middle schooler I got addicted to reading a super old trashy romance perfectly any novel with a really weird premise my favorite one I found was one with a couple meet in a truck stop bathroom one is a werewolf the other is a human running from zombies .
when you started reading the synopsis for the first book I was like there's no way there's no way it was the first book I found in the good will😅 they got me hooked on this genre
As someone who was born on October 13th it feels profoundly cursed that the climatic events of Eternity take place then
I’m so glad we feel the same way about romance novels.
I remember thinking, "Is it legal for me to read this if I am under age?"
dude freshly cut hair is soooooo satisfying to touch and it looks good!
I binged all your videos! Your energy is impeccable.
“She Loves Me, though she doesn’t show it /
How could she? When she doesn’t know it!” Love that musical
As much as I love this, girl, take time off for your health if needed. It's so sad to hear you sound in pain. I wanna give you a hug.
I started reading romance (usually historical) around 11 or 12. I don't read much romance now unless it has other stuff in it like fantasy or sci-fi or actual historical stuff. I'm currently reading the Outlander books and they really scratch all the itches.
Congrats on getting through those gems. 😏 Definitely not reading any of those..ever. Lol. But you did a great job! Fun content! 😁
I get so excited every time I see you posted a video. Keep up the awesome work :3
wtfff She Loves Me is one of my favorite musicals ever! I watched it with my mom and cried. Seriously such an underrated gem. btw i love your videos
your videos have a great "my friend telling me about their latest obsession" vibe that i love omg
She Loves Me! a good broadway reference is always on point.
"Everyone just immediately believes in this conspiracy" to be fair it does sound like something our military would do
i am livinggg for your content rn, your enthusiasm is so cool and engaging and just makes you vivacious and so fun to watch !!! PLEASE keep making content i will be here continuing to eat it up 🥹
I love consuming content about things I will never read/watch myself so this brought me a lot of joy, thank you, you were so fun to watch
I found your channel the other day through the selection and omg I love your stuff 😂😂😂❤
I love how you described the jazz interaction you had. I feel your pain
If the adoption agency was trying out how single parents do and they were both planning on raising the child on their own, why would they be paired up in class? Shouldn’t they be making sure they can do everything on their own?
