i know a bunch of families like that, but even more that are the opposite - perfect, smart, beautiful kids born to absolutely insufferable if not downright monstrous parents
Overcorrection maybe. America grew up in poverty, Maxon grew up with a controlling dad (who may or may not be abusive). They didn't want their kid to know either and pendulum-swung into coddling Eadlyn, so she grew up kinda bratty due to being so sheltered
No because the dynamic of two lovers who cant speak the same language having to communicate through a translating mutual friend as one learns the others's language would've been so cute if this was any other book series
Low key those color combos were huge at the time tho 😂 bright pink and lime green called they want their chunky necklace back. Brown and teal? Purple and litterally every animal print?
Okay, but one was staring at her boobs. That elimination though, the thing that got me through this book was imagining E said everything dripping with sarcasm and sass
Wait so you’re telling me that she doesn’t end up with the cute architect she’s known like her entire life but instead this translator she met three months ago? Why would you set that up Kiera Cass, what the hell.
The reveal of Ean and Hale's relationship always felt so out of left field, which was weird because I feel like I usually pick up on that kind of stuff. But then I realized that these books are so aggresively heterosexual that my brain completely forgot that queer people existed in this universe because they didnt seem to exist in this universe until that reveal.
I stopped reading The Crown as soon as Maxon and America stepped down as King and Queen. Cuz if I remember correctly (and I could be wrong, I read this many years ago) it was so they could travel...... And I was like, the people we know and love from the OG series would never leave an entire country that's still THIS out of shape in the hands of a daughter THIS incapable so they could go globetrotting for the rest of their lives.... They would NEVER. I have enough trouble believing they'd somehow manage to raise a daughter like her to begin with, but this moment was absolutely broken. I was done at that point. Didnt even care who Eadlyn married. Didnt even care about the future of Ilea. Our OG couple had undergone the most extreme form of character assasination I had ever witnessed and I was not here for it anymore. Still. Even having not finished The Crown myself, I own all five books in this series and the collection of companion novellas (which are also pretty trash, if you haven't read those).
I don't understand why Kiera Cass set the number of Selected at 36, when she obviously doesn't have the writting skills to take advantage of such a large cast, nor it seemd she has any interest to do so. And, like... She breaks her own rules. The Elite are supposed to be the last 10. Maxon left it at 6 for "safety reasons", but we all know three of them never had a chance and that he insta-loved America from Night 0. And Eadlyn just... Does it again. For no reason, she has eliminated all useless characters between books and she also has 6 Elite. Kiera, if you wanted the Elite to be 6 you could have done so, you know? [Also, she names her characters like that meme of white woman who lists some awful baby names. And you know the best part? They WERE baby names she considered for her own children!]
@@r1kuthevamp I'm going to say something that may sound mysoginistic, but I assure you, it's not. It might be condescending, I'll admit to that, but it's just an approximation of what I believe is Kiera Cass' outlook on the world, based on every time I've read or heard her opinions: I'm pretty sure Kiera Cass thinks with glitter. All her tweets, all her interviews, all her Instagram reels. Glitter. Sparkly glitter, floating through the air, finding their way to printed media. And that's how we get Miss Princess Eadlyn Schreave of Illéa. That's why her books feel so white. [Again, I don't think she's a good writer, but I want to clarify that she *wanted* to make novels that felt like ABC'S _The Bachellor_ and I believe she managed to capture those vibes. These books are fun in the sense that trashy melodrama can be fun. I'm sad the concept was executed so poorly and I'm angry at the implications of the southern rebels being evil, but... These books are what they are].
@@SirEriol and not only in the selection series but there always has to be some kind of group in any series that has to do with the monarchy and that group wanting to "take down the monarchy", but overall i do agree that kiera does indeed seem to think with glitter, and it shows in the books, but what is up with young adult authors wanting their characters names to be "different" or "unique" **cough** colleen hoover **cough**
Kinda reads like a preteen's angsty fanfic. Nothing wrong with fanfic, every writer went through such a phase. But it's strange that her angsty preteen fanfic somehow made it through a publishing house
literallyyyyyyy plus there are no stakes? like she could choose whoever or not choose anyone and nobody cares? several bad choices were made while writing these books
I have not read the books but she sounds like the kind of stuck up princess character a down on their luck main character would have to deal with when they somehow end up having to live in the castle with them and get used to the life of royalty
Just so you know the die-hard fans of the book hate this too (not just because they try almost killing America for some forced drama) Eadlyn is just a terrable main character and tbh. It's like the ugly stepchild of the fandom.
"kile designs low income housing" immediate reaction: cute! one second later: HANG ON i just KNOW that kile's designing pruitt-igoe because kiera cass thinks that's the best way to go about things and yep then we learn kyle does not put in fucking bathrooms. "go piss at work" kiera cass please i'm starting to get bad thoughts about what you think of unhoused and lower income people
LMFAO "Go piss at work" "Ma'am, I'm unemployed" "Get a job" "No one will hire me cus of my former caste and you've still not enacted any discrimination laws"
so i usually skip character's descriptions, because i'm into imagining them as i want, so i was imagining Erik as a middle-aged guy and when eadlyn asked him why he didn't try to get into the selection, i was like 'HE WAS ALLOWED?"
i thought this as well 😭 i completely overlooked his description and quite frankly overlooked him in general bc i thought he was of no importance whatsoever and turns out he’s who she ends up falling for like ?!?
OK, but a book where Eadlyn & Ian pull the strings of this Selection in a fun evil Lavander marriage scheme. Affairs on the side. Plots to start making a good public face. Like, Make her the villain! She'd be so much more fun!!
Honestly, I feel like it would make so much more sense for Eadlyn's character if she was really grappling with her sexuality throughout these books, and that's why she was so anti marriage. I also feel like it would weirdly explain her hatred for all women. Not only would it be internalized misogyny, that could also be a little internalized homophobia sprinkled in
These books are so awful. I spent so long being annoyed by how much she spent talking about how 'old' her parents were - like babe, they had you when America was 18, they are late 30s-early 40s AT MOST.
a "twist ending" couldve been done in so many ways that doesn't include the mc falling in love with someone WHO WERE NOT ROOTING FOR OR WERE PRIMED TO LIKE??? this is not how this works ffsss
Kiera Cass tried to pull a subversive plot twist and it looks more like a half-baked exquisite corpse. The change is so abrupt, even Epic Reads makes fun of it in their doll videos. Epic Reads. The guys who market every loaf of bread as Iconic, Instant Classic, 5 Stars.
@@alenciaga21 It's not so much as "didn't see it coming", but rather "oh, I didn't expect her to actually go and do it". I still wouldn't call those interactions as suficient, though. I did pick up on what she was trying to do, but that's mostly because she isn't a very subtle person. When the Crown came and it was suddendly everywhere but the main plot, I knew he was going to "win".
If Kyra Cass thinks that a princess nobody ever liked suddenly proclaiming, “Hey, gang, we’re a constitutional monarchy now!” would result in anything other than a civil war, then she is out of her mind. (By the way, are you aware there’s a companion volume of short stories about the minor characters in the series, including the story of how Maxson’s parents met in his father’s Selection?)
The way you skip over the ENTIRE whirlwind romance between Eadlyn and Erik is so funny 😂 like I'm team Kile too but holy crap the "oh yeah they're in love and get engaged" with no buildup SENT ME Also the way you hate Aspen so much that you mention him and Lucy 0 times cracks me UP 🤭 Mannnn f'ck Aspen I love your videos, I'm so happy to find anyone who talks about this book series, I was OBSESSED If you're taking any series suggestions, I'd love if you covered The Lunar Chronicles, also one of mh middle school obsessions 🤭
I dont know why but this is so addicting to watch. The books so bad that your talking makes it wayyy more entertaining and funnier and makes me wanna strangely read it and be apart of the experience.
there are many problems with these 2 books and I'm gonna list the ones that are the worst for me: 1. They don't have enough worldbuilding for them to be so centered on politics like this world is sooo simple, which is fine for a romance book that occasionally mentions politics (aka, the first 3 books), but not for a "political" book that occasionally mentions romance. 2. The final couple is instalove, they talked to each other like two or three times and now they are in love and want to marry??? besides its misleading the romance with Kyle, (I will never forgive what they did with my guy) 3. This book made Maxon and America WORSE like I can't believe they were that terrible as king and queen and that terrible at raising Eadlyn. Like I have to genuinely brainwash myself to forget these books to keep liking them as I did in the original trilogy
"Babe, it's not misogyny, it's cause you're the freaking worst." That's one of those quotes I'm now dying to say, even without context. 😂 Also, on a different note, I absolutely ADORED Henri and even though I wouldn't wish Eadlyn upon my worst enemy, it's still kinda stupid that she only *picked* him by default. 😒
just wanted to say that osten & ahren r both names in non anglophone countries! osten is probably norse. and ahren is germanic (but im not very sure). as far as i can tell eadlyn is completely made up tho 😭 i just think its really impt to remember that american names rnt the only kind & that names that seem made up/misspelled could b from other cultures
you’re absolutely right! Osten, Ahren, and Ean are perfectly valid names for people to have, but I think that part of the reason those names feel so out of place in this book is because Illea is supposed to be North America with Chinese and Russian influences, but none of the names seem to reflect that? I just have a hard time taking any names seriously from an author that calls her main characters “America” and “Eadlyn” 💀
The only reason I could read these was because there are 2 Finnish characters and it was so hilarious to read as a Finn. The Finnish is so bad in the original books that the Finnish book translator corrected every spelling mistake for our own sanity. Keira Cass did no research for her Finnish characters at all lol.
@@ainsleesbookclub I remember literally rewinding the audio book bc I thought I skipped chapters and sat there like ….? back then I didn’t get that it was just awful writing lmao
so when i was in middle school and the heir came out i actually predicted the twist ending!! you're right, this didn't really Need to exist and the series would have been complete without it. in the original selection we already knew how it would end- but we wanted to see how our main character grew and won over the prince anyway. however the problem is in the sequels they decided that they had to end it in an "interesting" way somehow as it would be too straightforward to just see a princess main character fall in love with a guy that was chosen for her, so they had to do this sudden twist. i feel like the childhood friend could have been more than interesting enough- i'm also team kyle!
I cannot be the only one that did not know the translator guy was an option from the beggining. For the longest time I was rooting for Kyle and then I found out she likes another guy and that he is young unlike the 40-50 year old I thought he was for most of the books. Now I realize I don't really like Eadlyn and Kile deserved better😂
Every time you say “Eadlyn”, I think you’re saying “Edalyn”, and imagining how much more interesting this story would be with a main character like Edalyn Clawthorn from The Owl House.
You are incredibly charming, funny, and captivate my attention, and I cannot EVEN believe your channel hasn’t blown the heck up yet. You’re awesome, I love the concept of this channel, and I can’t wait to see you and your grow and flourish!
i was already deeply annoyed with basically all the characters in the selection series but, god, when i read the heir (on a road trip btw! which was an awful decision) i almost tore up the book. it was a library book so i wasn't able to but i was still tempted. i never even picked up the crown! and i'm glad tbh!!
reading these books in english but as a german kid i never had a problem with those names because those are just german words 😭😭😭 NEVER realised Osten was supposed to be a kaiyleiygh version of AUSTIN
I am less than halfway through the video and am predicting that Eadlyn ends up with Kile because she starts off hating him. Edit: WHAT. THE. FUCK. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yes that passage in the book was quite homophobic. She's saying that it's the gay couple's fault for being driven out of town and hurt because they "went out of their way" to live in the same house and be an *out couple* . She's saying she "can't care" for the story (therefore, for the couple) because they, in her eyes, *chose* to be hurt. They could have been less hurt if they had stayed in the closet, therefore they deserve less compassion than, like, poor people, who don't have any choice. very slimy awful and bullshit of course, she just phrased it in a way that didnt make her look too bad.
I absolutely love the selection series and always end up rereading them every few years but to this day I have never successfully finished the heir and the crown because as you point out, Eadlyn is so obviously not anything like a child that America and Maxon would ever raise in a million years. Her overall behavior and general lack of empathy is wildly out of character for the child of the people who abolished the caste system and actually cared about their subjects. From the little I read I do remember thinking that she would surely end up with Kile and now finding out how the books ended I'm even more glad I didn't finish because it would've made me so irrationally angry!!!!! Also forgive me if I'm missing context but it seems absolutely insane to me that despite changing the political system to a constitutional monarchy Eadlyn literally ended up appointing her aunt as the prime minister... like is that not just keeping the power in her family?????? Anyways, these videos were so good I love the way you are able to summarize things but not leave too much out! I'll def be checking out more videos from your channel!!!!!
YOU EXPRESSED MY EXACT THOUGHTS TOWARDS EADLYN AND KILE I was halfway through The Heir when The Crown dropped and I got spoiled about who she'd end up with. Dropped the entire series, couldn't care anymore. How tf are you gonna build this amazing dynamic of people who are childhood friends but also can't stand each other and then just THROW IT OUT OF THE WINDOW. ABSOLUTELY UNHINGED BEHAVIOR!!!! KIERA CASS WHAT WERE YOU OOOOON
Oh no, I just realised that when about 2 hours ago I was suggested the first part of this series I miss remembered the Selection books. I almost completely had forgotten Maxon and Americas story, but I remembered the princess and her child hood enemy to lover's. Which is a trope I really stan. After watching this video I was like, the eff, she didn't end up with Kile?! Turns out I had stopped reading when she was going to propose to him, because I got busy and forgot about it. So in my mind she's with Kile and he's a positive influence on her.
The rebels disappearing suggests that Maxon brutally cracked down on dissent in the period between these books. You are right in saying that their only goal was abolishing the monarchy so unless they came to some sort of agreement I can only come to the conclusion that he brought an end to the rebellion via horrible and violent means. Or at least I choose to believe the worst…
I actually liked Eric. In the first 3 books it is very clear that America is going to win because she is literally the main character, but books about her daughter have intrigue, I was genuinely interested. And as I mentioned, I liked Eric so I was very happy about the ending.
I am ashamed to admit that I prefer these books over the other three... As much as i hate the protagonist, America was honestly more annoying to me, mostly because she got called out way less than Eadlyn by other characters. Also Henri is really precious. Also also, I kind of wish the whole marriage of convenience thing with Ian could have happened (and then them not calling in love once they're married anyway!!), would be something different for an otherwose quite cliché heavy book series^^' I am happy for him though. Also also also, am I the only one who found America to be really OOC? I mean sure, she grew up and became a mother but in these books she was kind of a copy of Queen Amberly imo.
Imagine a world where after the Cinderella AU that was The Selection, the author had actually read some other fairytales and maybe stumbled on The Haughty Princess - a fairytale in which a princess who doesn't want to marry repeatedly finds fault with every suitor she meets until her parents get fed up and essentially corner her into marrying a random commoner who makes her live with him in his cottage and learn valuable life skills and how the other half lives, with her getting over her snobbish pride and genuinely working as hard as she can, and the two of them falling in love mutually. The OG fairytale ends with a reveal that he was actually a neighbouring monarch who she'd rejected previously on grounds that she didn't like his beard, and he'd come back in disguise in complicity with her parents to teach her a lesson, then found her earnest efforts to adapt to her new husband's supposed lifestyle, and her ability to let go of her pride and muck in like anyone else to be deeply admirable, so deemed she'd learned her lesson. He also shaves off the beard. Like, it's not a perfect story, but if these books had modelled their plot somewhat on it the way they supposedly did with Cinderella in the first one, then it could have ended up being a genuinely interesting reimagining
Turns out my brain deleted the last third of the books and I thought she got like a poly romance with Erik, Henry and Kyle. (Idc how they’re spelled lol)
(okay listen I love alternative spellings of names. My favorite form of Erin is Aeryn. Don't kill me, it's pretty. I use it in a lot of games. I wouldn't pronounce Ahren as Aaron though. It definitely looks like Aw-ren to me. Which tbh feels like it would match with Eadlyn better than Aaron pronunciation-wise. But anyway.) Ngl the "You don't have to call me "your highness", it's just Ean" sounds strongly like "You don't have to call me "sir", professor."
About the atrocious yellow dress- It sounds so 2014/2015 to me. Back then long-short dresses were HUGE. I remember hating them and hating that it was so hard to find anything with a normal hemline. You’d see a dress with a cute bodice and then it’d look like someone made a tailoring mistake.
always a youtube watcher and never a commenter, but just wanted to say how much I love your videos!!! I feel like we’re besties chatting with some coffee! anyways, you ate. 😙
me personally, straight or not, if given the opportunity, i’d sign up to marry the prince/princesses. ESPECIALLY if i’m poor. ESPECIALLY if i’m a northern rebel who wants to abolish the monarchy.
I watched this because I haven't read the books, nor do I plan to. Only to find out that IN FACT I have read BOTH of these books, I simply ✨BLOCKED IT FROM MY MEMORY✨ I began having flashbacks when she brought up Henry! from Swendway!!
it's funny how in the twilight video bella and jacob being life long friends made them being a couple weird but when it's about kyle and this princess person it's cute, i call your bullshit
no okay let me defend myself real quick first of all I never claimed to be unbiased my opinions are based on absolutely nothing but vibes second of all I think it’s weird that Jacob was supposed to be 15/16 while Bella was 18 also it’s my understanding that Bella and Jacob were family friends and Kyle and Eadlyn didn’t like each other at all growing up so it doesn’t feel as weird to me but what do I know 🤠
hmmm....hoe could they be life long friends? their dads were the old friends. didn't they meet for the first time after bella had to move and live with her dad in glitter city? 😂 why do i remember this?!
Eadlyn seems kind of like „what if someone had the same personality as America except privileged and entitled?“ when the only thing that made America‘s impulsiveness and rage okay was that she wasn’t entitled and had valid injustices to be impulsive and angry about
I hate enemies to lovers in general. I can usually tell who will end up together based on who hates whom the most at the beginning (I'm looking at you, Ron Weasley). I spent these books dreading the inevitable Eadlyn/Kile ending and hoping against hope that Eadlyn would choose Erik.
Short in the front, long in the back Was indeed a trend in 2015, I actually wore one in red as my graduation dress back then😂 the colour choices in the book are questionable though 😂
I vivdly remember reading these two books. I didn't read the ones with america and the dude (I don't remember his name) but I remember reading it and being livid at the ending. I was rooting for eadlyn and kile but then Erik came and I was like wtf.
I read the first spin-off book when it came out and forgot about it by the time the second was released. Then, years later, I found it in a bookstore and something stopped me from buying it right away. I skipped to end (something I never do) to see who she proposed to and I was literally SO shocked because I was a hardcore Team Kile girlie. They grew up together and shared so many moments together and had such great chemistry AND it was haters to lovers on top of everything. I was so sure it’d be him!! I ended up putting it back so I watched this to learn what actually happened. This somehow sounded even worse than I imagined because Kile didn’t even do anything wrong and it sounds like she still loved him. Crazy.
As a non-native english speaker the Henry thing is so maddening. First of all, english is an extremely simple language and one of the easiest to learn. Second, if someone has an intensive english course they could very well master the language in 3-5 months. This plot point was clearly written by someone who has never even bothered to learn a second language.
not totally sure i agree that english is simple, personally i think it fucking sucks lol, but like Henri should have been able to learn english like even without a class all the immersion in the palace is gonna have to affect him its really dumb
this is reductive bullshit. the relative ease of learning English (or any language for that matter) is based on that person’s already spoken language and innate ability, not the “complexity” of the language. language “complexity” is based on arbitrary categories and there’s no true method of defining “complex” or “simple” languages. something that’s simple to you could be extremely foreign and difficult for someone else. are you sure YOU’VE bothered to learn about linguistics in any way?
@@festivesnake7288 yeah i mean im a linguistics major so..... i 100% agree that acquisition is so different from person to person depending on their ability and background, think the point we're trying to make is that, generally speaking, its really hard to avoid learning at least some of a language in full immersion
@@festivesnake7288 This is a good point, I do have some basic knowledge of linguistics and was aware of that fact when writing this comment. I first must apologise because I simply assumed "Swendway" was a advanced version of this universe's Sweden, which is one of the countries in the world with highest english proficiency. However my point still stands, if someone has the ability of a full-immersion intesive course (which Henri could have because he would be sponsored by a literal royal family) he would have been able to learn enough english that he could (at least) communicate without a translator in some months.
I just found your channel, and I already cannot at those names. Not just because they're absurd but because me and my siblings names are Ashlyn, Aaron, and Austin. LIKE I WOULD HAVE BEEN DECEASED IF I KNEW ABOUT THESE AS A PRETEEN.
They always say that it’s very hard to write a character that is smarter than you, and I feel like that almost applies to how the author clearly doesn’t understand like… dystopian politics or how stuff like this works. Like she can only tackle so much with the knowledge she has on caste systems and stuff, so it all comes off as shallow. America didn’t know how to solve the issues in this fictional country because the author doesn’t either.
Okay okay the original trilogy is better but... I still kinda love these second two books. I don't like how Maxon and America's characters were handled or how sudden the twist is at the end, but other than that I think they're pretty good. The sibling dynamics are interesting and the development with each boy is sweet (although unfortunately limited.) Experiencing the selection from the other side was fun because the end game wasn't clear (since we aways knew Maxon would of course choose the protagonist.) As far as Eadlyn's character goes.... there aren't enough protagonists who are written as terrible people on purpose. She stands out and it's just a different thing to read. It's gratifying when she starts realizing she's horrible. She may not be a good person by the end of the book, but she has an idea that she needs a change. I think it's a fun read.
My mind cannot wrap around the fact that she went to go propose to Kile, but when he did it she all the sudden couldnt accept his proposal?? Like was she just going to see him to waste both of their time? But honestly, Kile is a stand-up guy and deserves better than Eadlyn.
phahaha i love this your previous video made me re-read the first three books but now i really want to read these two again too,, not sure whether to thank you or hate you for that xD I did have a lot of fun with the first three though, sooo... thanks. for now.
@@ainsleesbookclub started with The Heir earlier today and HOW DID I EVER THINK EADLYN WAS EVEN REMOTELY RELATABLE???? tf was wrong with me 😭😭😭 Guess it was the "I'm a strong independent woman girlboss single queen and need no man" part lmaooo
These two books were so bad I skimmed the first and only tried reading the 2nd because I was rooting for my boy Kile. DNF and skipped to the end and was ENRAGED that she didn't pick Kile like wtaf 😭
ok i've read these two books like years ago and I need to take something off my chest... As I was reading I felt kinda lazy and just put random characters for the face of the characters of the books... So the romance with the translator literally hit me out of left field because I deadass imagined him as Cam from modern family 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
eeee I love this! I remember reading the whole series as a kid and having to POWER through these two, ugh it was rough. The only valid thing Eadlyn does is not learn Finnish actually 😂 that language… oh boy…
i just finished these books yesterday and the word insufferable perfectly embodies Eadlyn and i'm just mad the second book was LITERALLY 95% dialogue... ITS A GLORIFIED SCRIPT
Ive once heard someone say that Kiera fell asleep on the keybord and her head tapped some randon letter and when she wake up she thohgh "mm.. good names"
I read the selection, two years ago and LOVED IT! I waited a year and read Happily Ever After, which was good but then a few months ago I decided to read books 4&5 and it ruined the entire series! I was so upset :(
Honestly I hated this whole 5 good series equally but I still read all of them because I needed to know how this dumpster fire ended. Eadlyn and America were honestly equally as bad to me Also also justice for Henri
I love the implication that Perfect America and Desirable Maxon together created an Insufferable Uneducated and Horrible Kid
i know a bunch of families like that, but even more that are the opposite - perfect, smart, beautiful kids born to absolutely insufferable if not downright monstrous parents
It's what happens when people who were brought up to work hard and achieve try to make it easier for their kids and overdo it a bit.
Overcorrection maybe. America grew up in poverty, Maxon grew up with a controlling dad (who may or may not be abusive). They didn't want their kid to know either and pendulum-swung into coddling Eadlyn, so she grew up kinda bratty due to being so sheltered
America sucks though
biggest red flag from eadlyn is that she got mad at kile for being nice to her, just like aspen at the beginning of the first book
Fr!! I hated America so much for that, and little Queen Princess is even worse!!
...you hated America because she did a nice thing for someone and they projected their insecurities onto her?
Man I’ve never read this book and it’s been a while since I watched this video. This comment is like THE MOST fantasy YA comment ever
I was cooking at the beginning of the video and missed the spellings of names and seeing them written down almost ruined dinner for me jfc
nothing can hold my tiny attention span like you talking about these terrible books i have never read and never will read
oh my gosh thank you so much!! im glad you enjoy my silly little videos :)
No because the dynamic of two lovers who cant speak the same language having to communicate through a translating mutual friend as one learns the others's language would've been so cute if this was any other book series
Exactlyyyy
This is literally how my parents got together so I am all for this
Literally wrote that book and can confirm it was a trip
"I love fashion" she says. Ah yes the classic Ikea dress, pinnacle of style
oh my god THE IKEA DRESS 💀
No worries lol. She was just representing Swendway w/ the ikea dress :7 🇸🇪

😭😭 i need to go watch that movie. it’s been too long lmfao. kuzco was at least hilarious while being terrible
Okay, but one was staring at her boobs. That elimination though, the thing that got me through this book was imagining E said everything dripping with sarcasm and sass
Wait so you’re telling me that she doesn’t end up with the cute architect she’s known like her entire life but instead this translator she met three months ago? Why would you set that up Kiera Cass, what the hell.
the perfect enemies to lovers storyline was RIGHT THERE 😭
im soooo upset. i was checking the time of the video to see if they get back together. my heart is shattered. i hate this
The reveal of Ean and Hale's relationship always felt so out of left field, which was weird because I feel like I usually pick up on that kind of stuff. But then I realized that these books are so aggresively heterosexual that my brain completely forgot that queer people existed in this universe because they didnt seem to exist in this universe until that reveal.
Fr but like good for them. I’ve been wanting something good for Ean since he was introduced
They WERE baby names she considered for her own children!]
and then her children's names are guyden and zuzu?
@@r1kuthevamp I'm going to say something that may sound mysoginistic, but I assure you, it's not. It might be condescending, I'll admit to that, but it's just an approximation of what I believe is Kiera Cass' outlook on the world, based on every time I've read or heard her opinions:
I'm pretty sure Kiera Cass thinks with glitter.
@@SirEriol and not only in the selection series but there always has to be some kind of group in any series that has to do with the monarchy and that group wanting to "take down the monarchy", but overall i do agree that kiera does indeed seem to think with glitter, and it shows in the books, but what is up with young adult authors wanting their characters names to be "different" or "unique" **cough** colleen hoover **cough**

seriously SERIOUSLY questionable POV in these books LOL like why is eadlyn such a terrible unlikeable person 💀💀
literallyyyyyyy plus there are no stakes? like she could choose whoever or not choose anyone and nobody cares? several bad choices were made while writing these books
It's like the ugly stepchild of the fandom.

not exactly but basically the plot of High Class Homos the webtoon :)))
Honestly, I feel like it would make so much more sense for Eadlyn's character if she was really grappling with her sexuality throughout these books, and that's why she was so anti marriage. I also feel like it would weirdly explain her hatred for all women. Not only would it be internalized misogyny, that could also be a little internalized homophobia sprinkled in
@@jessicamattes4208I love this

I rooted for Erik and saw his potential, I just didn’t think she would go through with it because there were so many Kile scenes
BUT OF COURSE Eadlyn??? Eatlyn? Princess princess couldn't just say "I don't want to be the Queen" like giving up the right to the throne who??

@@tonichan89 Oof that's even worse. I (ironically) love it.
I dont know why but this is so addicting to watch. The books so bad that your talking makes it wayyy more entertaining and funnier and makes me wanna strangely read it and be apart of the experience.
there are many problems with these 2 books and I'm gonna list the ones that are the worst for me:
1. They don't have enough worldbuilding for them to be so centered on politics like this world is sooo simple, which is fine for a romance book that occasionally mentions politics (aka, the first 3 books), but not for a "political" book that occasionally mentions romance.
2. The final couple is instalove, they talked to each other like two or three times and now they are in love and want to marry??? besides its misleading the romance with Kyle, (I will never forgive what they did with my guy)
I mean, Östen would be a nordic name, I guess. Osten literally mean cheese in Swedish.

so when i was in middle school and the heir came out i actually predicted the twist ending!! you're right, this didn't really Need to exist and the series would have been complete without it. in the original selection we already knew how it would end- but we wanted to see how our main character grew and won over the prince anyway. however the problem is in the sequels they decided that they had to end it in an "interesting" way somehow as it would be too straightforward to just see a princess main character fall in love with a guy that was chosen for her, so they had to do this sudden twist. i feel like the childhood friend could have been more than interesting enough- i'm also team kyle!
Edalyn probably gets a lot of baristas writing “Eadlyn” on her cup

Literally one of the only things I know about these books is that Kile was originally spelled Kiel.

YOU EXPRESSED MY EXACT THOUGHTS TOWARDS EADLYN AND KILE
I was halfway through The Heir when The Crown dropped and I got spoiled about who she'd end up with.
Not me googling of Kiera Cass is mormon cause that would at least explain the really stupid names (she isn't)
no that’s too funny 💀
Ikr like I get she became a mother and the queen, but what happened to her original personality???
“anyway she has a heart attack, _NOT_ very slay” had a fuckin howling, what an icon
But anyway.)
Ngl the "You don't have to call me "your highness", it's just Ean" sounds strongly like "You don't have to call me "sir", professor."
About the atrocious yellow dress- It sounds so 2014/2015 to me. Back then long-short dresses were HUGE. I remember hating them and hating that it was so hard to find anything with a normal hemline. You’d see a dress with a cute bodice and then it’d look like someone made a tailoring mistake.

me personally, straight or not, if given the opportunity, i’d sign up to marry the prince/princesses. ESPECIALLY if i’m poor. ESPECIALLY if i’m a northern rebel who wants to abolish the monarchy.
I watched this because I haven't read the books, nor do I plan to. Only to find out that IN FACT I have read BOTH of these books, I simply ✨BLOCKED IT FROM MY MEMORY✨ I began having flashbacks when she brought up Henry! from Swendway!!
it’s been almost a decade since i first read the heir/the crown and i’ve never EVER forgotten kile and what could & should have been
it's funny how in the twilight video bella and jacob being life long friends made them being a couple weird but when it's about kyle and this princess person it's cute, i call your bullshit
no okay let me defend myself real quick first of all I never claimed to be unbiased my opinions are based on absolutely nothing but vibes second of all I think it’s weird that Jacob was supposed to be 15/16 while Bella was 18 also it’s my understanding that Bella and Jacob were family friends and Kyle and Eadlyn didn’t like each other at all growing up so it doesn’t feel as weird to me but what do I know 🤠
hmmm....hoe could they be life long friends? their dads were the old friends. didn't they meet for the first time after bella had to move and live with her dad in glitter city? 😂 why do i remember this?!
Eadlyn seems kind of like „what if someone had the same personality as America except privileged and entitled?“ when the only thing that made America‘s impulsiveness and rage okay was that she wasn’t entitled and had valid injustices to be impulsive and angry about
I hate enemies to lovers in general. I can usually tell who will end up together based on who hates whom the most at the beginning (I'm looking at you, Ron Weasley). I spent these books dreading the inevitable Eadlyn/Kile ending and hoping against hope that Eadlyn would choose Erik.
I love how each of these book reviews just show that you're slowly and steadily descending into the pits of madness
i dont know why or if its just me but i cant imagine these books in a world with phones and planes, i imagine it like bridgerton
I wonder if that's what the author wanted but was forced to make it a dystopia set in the modern world because it would sell more
Short in the front, long in the back Was indeed a trend in 2015, I actually wore one in red as my graduation dress back then😂 the colour choices in the book are questionable though 😂
Imma need a complete series of the lunar chronicles of you’re doing all my childhood books dude
You’re never gonna guess what I’m reading right now
I vivdly remember reading these two books.
@@festivesnake7288 yeah i mean im a linguistics major so..... i 100% agree that acquisition is so different from person to person depending on their ability and background, think the point we're trying to make is that, generally speaking, its really hard to avoid learning at least some of a language in full immersion
i know COUNTLESS people from my country who failed to learn it for years
@@festivesnake7288 This is a good point, I do have some basic knowledge of linguistics and was aware of that fact when writing this comment.
I think it's a fun read.
i would LOVE your insights on a coleen hoover novel
ALL THIS AND SHE STILL DIDNT EVEN END UP WITH KYLE???
OH MY GOD LITERALLY WHAT WAS THE POINT???????
My mind cannot wrap around the fact that she went to go propose to Kile, but when he did it she all the sudden couldnt accept his proposal?? Like was she just going to see him to waste both of their time? But honestly, Kile is a stand-up guy and deserves better than Eadlyn.

Osten means "the cheese" in norwegian so that's all I could think about while reading it😂😂
I read the selection, two years ago and LOVED IT! I waited a year and read Happily Ever After, which was good but then a few months ago I decided to read books 4&5 and it ruined the entire series! I was so upset :(
Honestly I hated this whole 5 good series equally but I still read all of them because I needed to know how this dumpster fire ended. Eadlyn and America were honestly equally as bad to me
Also also justice for Henri
Your commentary is divine
