As the young cast has said, Alan Rickman took all the kids under his wing. Mentored them. Made them laugh. Learned life lessons and how to be a great actor. Apparently he was the most beloved of all of them with the kids.
@@hingethunder @LibbyRN Both things are interesting to know\think of. Even more interesting - they're not mutually exclusive. Maybe by trying his patience the kids got all said experiences from him
Ron is the youngest son in a family of overachievers, his brothers were all successful at school either in Quidditch or Prefects or Head boys so Ron sees himself achieving all of that and more in the mirror. Any achievements he has are downplayed because he’s not the first to do it in his family, it’s kinda sad when you think about it 🥺
He is the youngest but to say that his achievements are downplayed is a bit of an overstatement. His visions in the mirror are that he wishes he was on his own doing all those achievements. That he had no siblings because he feels overshadowed. Trying to explain this and not spoiling is extremely hard but imma just say Mrs. Weasley is a saint.
I know ppl won’t see this, but the little fact that your dad cared so much to be involved with your brother he carved him a wand. 🥹 I love that! Made my heart warm.
RIP Robbie Coltrane, Alan Rickman, Richard Griffiths, Richard Harris, Helen McCrory, Verne Troyer, Robert Hardy, John Hurt All were brought to life perfectly, and stayed through most of the movies. The Books and Movies will always be my favorite.
@35:53 when Amber picks out Alan Rickman. "That's an older Hans Gruber." It gave me "We'll be sitting on a beach, earning twenty percent." feels and I'm like... I helped with that!
Without spoilers, I’m so excited for your journey with Snape. He’s written and pitched perfectly and Alan Rickman absolutely knocks it out the park. What a wonderful actor. RIP.
I love how this couple has said they have no history with this series but predicted something from the fourth movie and they're not even done watching the first one yet but to be fair hagrid was bigger in the books they say he was twice as tall as a normal man and five times as wide
@@S_047 every single character has their own journey throughout the films, but they both seemed to be interested in and talk about Snape the most so I just said I’m excited to see their reaction to his specific journey. Nothing I said was a spoiler at all.
Yes, without ruining anything Snape went from my most hated character, to my absolutely favorite. The writing for his character and story arc is incredible.
40:09 here you can see Professor Quirrel behind Snape not blinding and staring at Harry! Which is him Jinxing Harry’s broom. As viewers we get distracted by Snape’s counter curse. It’s always so cool watching it back and seeing the small details that you missed.
If you watch again the scene with the quidich game, you can clearly see Quirell at the back giving the spell to Harry. But everyone focuses on Snape. Clever cinematography there.
Lol I was gunna post something similar but yeah. When you don’t know you watch snape (rip Allan Rickman) but when you know you watch quirrell. It’s a great subversion of expectations
This is a series that starts out childish and then gets darker and more interesting as it goes on... And the ending will blow you away! It's so good! I love this series and I started reading the books as a kid so attending the movie premieres was always a family event!
I was hooked after the first movie... I couldn't wait for the second movie to come out... I went out and bought the first four books and read them before the second movie came out. They did a great job with the movies but the books have so much more detail about the world and the back history. The only bad thing is this was a 7 book series and the next 3 books came out every 2 years... 😟
Because they were very child friendly. But Harry Potter series is a bildungsroman so each book/movie grows in maturity with him. Therefore, the later movies would appeal more to an older audience.
I'm with Amber on this. But it's not bashing. The tone of the stories change over the years - which is pretty well done. The series seems like it's going to be a simple youth wish fulfillment story. But even this first story... hitting all those notes... hints that there is something more to come with Snape. He seems like the obvious mustache (or cape) twirling villain. But he isn't. Likewise the world of Harry Potter has more than expected.
@@HadassaMoon144 Well it's normal. The story begins with a 11 years old kid discovering the Wizard World. What's wrong with being a child friendly story ?
Fun fact, Alan Rickman didn't want to continue to be Snape quite early in the franchise but J.K Rowling told him (no spoilers) something about Snape that made him stay to be the character for all the movies. No one except them knew about it until the last books so even when directors told him one way to act in scenes he did differently because he knew what was going to happen later in the story.
This is so spoilery, these inferences aren’t subtle at all, especially how snape is clearly framed as an evil character, thank god they didn’t actually see your comment before they got to the end. Jeeeez
@ObiWan Kenobi for sure, people love to pretend they know something others don't, like it's thIs huge piece of imformation that's completely unknown to the Harry Potter fandom and somehow saying it is going to better their lives. it was a huge spoiler, cause after reading that you're now expecting something big out of his character when the film literally redirects you from that so you don't expect it...I'm glad content creators know to not read their comments, cause you always get these people.
@@yamahakid450f please actually think about what you guys are saying, because this is really embarrassing. You’re glad “content creators don’t read the comments” so they don’t get spoilers? When this video was uploaded, Jay and Amber had already watched the whole movie and then edited and posted the video. So by the time the first comment was posted, they already knew the ending. I was shocked that even ONE person would be this confused, but there’s actually two of you? Before you come in here insulting their subscribers, make sure you know more about who Jay and Amber are because disrespect like this is unacceptable. They encourage conversation in the comment section… that’s what it’s there for.
@@obiwankenobi687 ummm… think about what you’re actually saying… By the time they uploaded the video, they had already seen the entire movie so no, that’s not a spoiler lmao. You said “thank god they didn’t see your comment before they got to the end”, but that would have literally been impossible… this wasn’t a livestream. 🤦🏻♀️ Also, that’s literally the point of the comment section; to discuss the film and even answer questions that Jay and Amber have or any subscribers. If you’re gonna be rude, then maybe you’re not a great fit for this channel. I can’t believe I just had to explain this.
You two are gonna love these movies!! Heads Up -- as the years go by at Hogwarts, and the kids grow up, the movies' themes get darker and darker and the evil in the stories gets worse and worse. Also, the kids get more and more knowledge in magic, so the magic elements increase every movie too. For the most part, each movie is a year at Hogwarts, with a few exceptions. It is soooo worth the journey!! Remember, one reason this series is so well loved is because JK Rowling was writing them as her target audience was growing up, just like the kids in the books....so that audience became VERY close to the characters.
Cerberus was the 3-headed dog from Hades. Dumbledore granting Neville 10 points at the end was a great life lesson, too (always gets me)-sometimes you gotta honestly call your friends out on their shit.
The first thing Snape asks Harry is "Potter! What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?" According to Victorian Flower Language, asphodel is a type of lily meaning 'My regrets follow you to the grave' and wormwood means 'absence' and also typically symbolised bitter sorrow.A
I promise you guys will love the Harry Potter series before you're done watching them. It gets better and better and better as the films go from one to the next. It's like watching the cast grow up before your eyes. I promise you haven't seen nothing yet, even though the first movie is awesome. I remember seeing it in theatre's when it first came out, and it's a memory I will cherish for as long as I live. What's even cooler for you two is that you don't even have to wait a year or two for each movie to be released like most of us did.
The actor who played Snape, Alan Rickman, was a legendary Shakespearian stage actor who also made a great name in films playing (mostly) villains -- the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood, Snape in the Harry Potter series, Hans Gruber in Die Hard, so many others. And also the Spock-like character in Galaxy Quest. He will be sorely missed.
its unfortunate because 3 of the first Teachers harry ever meets have all passed away Richard Harris (Soft Kind spoken dumbledore) Replaced with Michael Gambon Alan Rickman (Snape) Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) 😭 last one left alive is maggie smith
The scene where Hagrid gave Harry a homemade birthday cake always puts a smile on my face. Hagrid will always be in my top 10 favorite Harry Potter characters. I was heartbroken when I heard his actor passed away. RIP Robbie Coltrane (3/30/1950 - 10/14/2022)
I haven't even started watching the video and I have to say this: Absolutely love you two and the energy you put into the universe. I read the entire Potter series every 18 months or so for over a decade. Please, please, please when your kids are a bit older sit down and read these books together out loud as a family. I promise it will be a memory.
*I can't wait for you guys to watch the whole series. I didn't watch it for years (unfortunately) because I thought it wasn't my thing. After the 1st one I was hooked, bought the rest of the movies the next day and binge watched the whole weekend.*
I was the same lol...saw the first one with my daughter but didn't watch any others even though I liked the first movie. Years later decided to see what all the fuss was, and LOVED the series. Really, really good and suprised the quality not only held up, but actually got better.
I thought so too! A friend made me go see the third in the theater with him. I was scared and excited and went out and bought the books, I think they were only up to 4 maybe 5 at the time. I read all of them in a week. I was fully in and hated that I had to wait for more movies and books but was there every opening night at the theater with my friends. Love, love this series. It never gets old.
Those books were so well written, and the stories are so interesting, that my mom (who was in her sixties at the time) bought copies for us thirty somethings, and the grandchildren, too. She’s still not seen the movies.
I love Sir Richard Harris (Dumbledore) so much. He was an unbelievable actor. I was lucky enough to see him on stage at The Fox Theater in Camelot when I was in high school. Such a wonderful memory.
Welcome to the club: Guess what, you can be Harry Potter, StarWars, and Lord of the Rings fans all wrapped up in one. Because I LOVE all these series. You will love them as well. Well rounded super fans.
Okay I'm not sure if I totally believe that neither of you has ever seen a Harry Potter movie. I'm glad you're watching them now the ones to come are even better. You should get the books for your children. My grandson and I would read two chapters together every day until the end of that particular book and would have to wait a year better for the next book to come out. People would wait in line to get the books it was an event! The author was credited with actually getting young people and adults to read by the thousands with Harry Potter
There are so many good life lessons in this series, in addition to the lore of a new world. The characters and character development are so intriguing. Definitely take the houses quiz.
If u liked this you WILL love the rest. They get darker & more adult as they go on. Every movie answers (& raises) new questions. Im so excited for your other Harry Potter reactions!
Your faces when Voldermort was revealed on the back of Quirrels head. Pure gold. Such a great moment. Can't wait to watch the rest if the series with you guys.
Oh man, if you guys liked this one, you’re gonna love this series! Can’t wait to see your reactions. One of the coolest parts about HP (besides the story of course) is watching the kids grow quite literally and as actors. Also I gotta say RIP to the wonderful Robbie Coltrane aka Hagrid 💔
We read the books out loud as a family while the kids were just starting to read chapter books. As they got older they took turns reading too. Eventually they got to a point where they independently read. We dressed up and went to the bookstore at midnight to get the copy of the next book. That’s how cool it was to READ these books. It gets a lot more mature and dark by the end but it really did hook my young readers.
23 years ago my son and I did this too! Harry Potter created past and future magic in our relationship. We went to the book parties and the movies.... we still frame things through the story.
My daughter & I did, too! She was the same age as Harry throughout the books. We would go to Barnes & Noble for the midnight book releases! So fun. The final book we got home at 2am. I went in to say goodnight to my daughter and she was sniffing the book. It was the sweetest thing. She is a total book lover to this day! A little like Hermione actually. ❤❤❤❤❤
The genius of J. K. Rowling’s writing is that it can be understood by young children while still using mature themes, styles, vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure.
I love this! When the first book came out, reading was almost a passed over event. This brought reading back to being fun and popular again. Every kid up to age 92 needs to read these books.
Beginning with part 3, (which happens to my favorite, and in my opinion the best) the series starts to become more mature and really really starts getting good.
It's my favorite too but leaves out a TON of very important background lore. It's a shame too. There are continuity errors where it seems that scenes were cut because people know information they shouldn't...such as a certain character knowing a secret password and no one questioning how he knew it. 🤷♀️
I'm constantly impressed by how you really pay attention and the empathy (Amber) has when watching, so many people don't "get" deeper meanings, innuendo, it's genuinely fun to watch with you guys because NOTHING gets passed you two!
Your reactions when he removed the turban...🤣🤣🤣🤣 This series is another masterpiece. The books and the movies are each wonderful, and that is rare. You guys are in for a treat over the next movies!
I had that reaction when the face came out of the book in the restricted section and when Voldemort face came out of Quirrell's head! Ugh! Not so much anymore but when we first watched the movie, that was shocking!
Casting Alan RIckman as Snape was a master stroke of misdirection for older audiences who had only seen him as the bad guy in older movies. You have GOT to check out his other iconic role in Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves (BYO spoon). Oh and Galaxy Quest... a total must watch, guaranteed to do well in a poll.
Alan also played Hilly Krystal, owner of CBGB's in a movie with the title CBGB's. Hilly was responsible for bringing new acts at the time like The Ramones, Talking Heads, Television, Patty Smyth, etc to the forefront.
Great choice! Gotta keep in mind that the tone of the films age with the kids, so it starts off very whimsical with the films and then ends up very dark and adult in plot.
Your reactions are a joy to watch. I hope you watch the whole series without spoilers. Each book is self-contained yet sets up things that pay off in other books -- and create a whole new appreciation for earlier scenes when you go back and re-read the series again. -- One of the coolest things about the Harry Potter books is that they got a lot of kids reading books. That itself is a fantastic thing.
@@johnpaullogan1365 , Tolkien, who inspired Stephen King? Hemingway, who got grown men into reading for pleasure? Actually (in Hermione’s voice), reading for pleasure was common before tv existed. It still is. I look forward to every new book from Christopher Moore, and Stephen King, and many others. It’s a sad world when kids don’t read for fun.
The music for the first three Harry Potter movies was written by John Williams, who had previously written the iconic music for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Jurassic Park, among many others.
I got into the Harry Potter book series by chance. My mother gave the first three to my middle child. I always skimmed through what my kids were reading to know what they were into, just in case I ever had to talk them down from a psychotic episode or something. My son came in while I was looking through the first one and said, "Oh cool! You're reading them, I'll finally have someone to talk to about it!" I didn't have the heart to tell him I was just being nosy so I started really reading and got dragged in with him. I love the book series and the movies. It's great to see Harry Potter brand new through your eyes.
Lol - he is right about talking to others. My daughter & my best friends kids read the books. I loved them so much that my daughter & I read them aloud to each other by chapter. When all the kids would discuss them my friend would say she felt like we were talking another language. 😁 She started calling it our “ Harry Potter talk.”
Same reason I first read the books. My niece was really into them and I wanted to see what they were all about. And the first book was really good so I read them all and then watched all the movies.
I was working at a bookstore when the first three books came in late summer of 1999. We could not keep them in stock, even though we got new boxes every day. My nephew was 7 that year, so I bought him the set of three, and also bought a set for myself because I had heard that adults were loving it, too. I decided to read the first book before the return window closed just in case I didn’t like it, but after devouring it in just 2 1/2 hours, I was sucked in. I had to wait for book 4 since I was on vacation when it came out, but got book 5 at midnight and book 6 the first morning. I had quit the bookstore job before book 5, but got another bookstore job a few weeks before book 7 came out. Working that midnight sale was a blast-I dressed up as a Firebolt, bought my book after the rush was over, got home by 2:30 am, and finished reading it by noon.
What’s cool is the movie get more mature and darker as the characters age. Only 6 more to go. I’ve seen them numerous times. Also read all the books. I’m 67, any age can enjoy Harry Potter.
So basically each of the 4 houses represent a value: Gryffindor is bravery Slithering is ambition Hufflepuff is empathy And lastly Ravenclaw is intelligence. Basically if you read the books you would know many of the lines in the books that were Ron’s are Hermiones in the movie, although the movies are absolutely amazing they paint Ron to be useless and dumb when he really isn’t. Plus I’m so excited for your reactions to the movies, you guys are hilarious. 🤍☺️
I read the books and I loved them. I was in my late 40’s early 50’s when I read them. One of my biggest regrets is I was moving overseas because of my job and I gave the whole set of them to the boy who lived next door and they were hardcover books. I hope you watch all the movies or better still read the books to your children although it might be better to wait a year or so to read the first one to your oldest but I am not an expert on children because I never had any.
I was in my late 20s when the first book came out. I was just starting out as a writer, and I didn't know what I wanted to write about. I was getting into journalism, but when the books came out, I was hooked! Then after the last book came out, I thought, now what? Then I got an idea for a fantasy novel... lol! Due to many reasons, I dropped doing journalism, and went back to what intrigued me so much growing up, fantasy and science fiction!
Friendship & loyalty are themes that run through these films. Loved your reaction. I felt the same way you guys did about Snape. Malfoy & his family (you get to know them as the series progresses) are characters everyone loves to hate. Great choice.
And we will be there to clear up any misconceptions on the family and the house. As his mother is one of the greatest. Even in the books Malfoy is pretty darned cool and even smarter than Hermione.
One thing to remember with this series is that it was written so that as each book was released and the readers grew up, the themes would get more mature and grow with them. This first one is more simplistic and since Harry is 11 years old, he deals with 11 year old type problems like an 11 year old would. It gets more intense as the series goes on. And, I think, gets better with each book/movie.
First off lol maybe a little bit of that is true but mostly no lol there's nothing simplistic about learning that there's some evil wizard out there that wants you dead and murdered your parents. Not even in the Wizarding World is that seen as normal for an 11 year old or simplistic lmfao 😅🤣🤣🤣 interesting that you think so.
@@amber.ren_1995 I'm talking about things like "my mean aunt and uncle make me live under the stairs" and "oh, my, I really am special and everyone knows me" and "I wish my parents were really someone special and not some losers that died in a car crash." The type of things that every kid dreams about. Not things like " the Ministry of Truth are a bunch of Nazis" and "what does it mean to kill someone and what does that do to your soul?" You see the difference, right?
@@A.Dorcha , Every generation who read the books when they came out were on the journey with Harry and his friends, and every generation who reads them from then on is on the same journey. Rowling didn’t set them in a particular era.
My sister who always struggled with her reading bought the audio books and read along with them. It got her reading for pleasure when she was in her 50s. I was a school librarian and totally recommend the books as well. When your kids get a little older you can introduce them to the books. It is true the books and movies get more and more mature and complex so don’t rush it. They will endure and are already “classics”. The problem with being introduced too young is that many of the things that happen are beyond their understanding - then they are bored (because they don’t understand). Then when they are old enough to understand they think “I read that when I was in 2nd grade and it was boring!” So no rush! The same can definitely be said for The Lord of the Rings! Sometimes timing is everything! Snape is a very complex character! Keep watching!
As everyone has mentioned the story gets darker and more mature as the kids grow. Another growth to watch is the main trio’s acting. They are good child actors but by the last movie they are amazing actors. They had years surrounded by the best actors in all of Britain and learned well.
I am getting old, over sixty, but these Harry Potter movies, just like the Lord of the RIngs trilogy, can bring me to tears. I love it. You will love how the story evolves.
I cannot WAIT for y’all to see the rest of them!!! I’m so jealous that you’re getting to experience it for the first time. It’s been such an integral part of my life. I’ve passed it onto my daughter and just took her to Harry Potter world on her 11th birthday! Can’t wait to see you experience the rest!!😍
YES!!!!!!!!! SO glad you two are getting into one of my favorite movie series of all time. Of course, the movies are never better than the books but still....... YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the Harry Potter family! It only gets better! I remember taking my oldest out of school in the sixth grade the day this came out. It became a tradition. Every time a new movie came out I would pick him up and we would go to the very first showing. He is 32 now and we both still talk about it. I hope you both enjoy it as much as we do. We still have Harry Potter movie weekends where the family will get together and watch the whole series together. Usually around Halloween. Glad to have your family on board.
My kids and I were the first in line for the midnight showing for the 3rd movie!!! We had to go see every movie on the first day!!! My son was a senior in high school when the last movie came out and he still went with me to watch it :)
We loved the movies and when they were showing here for a week in IMAX I took my son to three of them. He was in 9th grade and we were out to 1am on school nights but didn’t care lol. I can’t wait to see the rest of the reactions!
I find it funny that you just happen to watch two movies with Alan Rickman in it one after the other. Alan played Hans Gruber in Die hard in 1988 and he plays professor Snape in this movie in 2001. He was such a wonderful actor. I loved him in Galaxy Quest. You ought to give that movie a watch. Very amusing. If you are familiar with Star Trek they poke fun at some of the stereo typical memes from the series and movies.
I'm so jealous, watching you experience this for the first time. If I could turn back time and experience Harry Potter for the first time again, I absolutely would. Magical is an understatement!
Rowling researched Hermetic-magic and antiquity when writing these books. The actual book is called The Philosophers stone but it was changed to Sorcerers stone for american audiences. In Hermeticism the philosophers stone is the end all be all, so she naturally started her first book with that.
So happy you are finally reacting to Harry Potter. I highly encourage you to read the books. If you only watch the movies, you are only getting a 1/4 to 1/2 of the story depending on the book. There is so much history you are missing out on and once you read the books, you realize just how much of everything was set up in the very first book. And some of the backstories will absolutely break your heart.
Aye! I'm glad you guys liked the first movie. I read the books over and over as a kid as they were still coming out, and it's so cool seeing people still appreciate how rich the world of Harry Potter is to this day!
This is the song that the Sorting Hat sings in the book version of Sorcerer's Stone before he sorted the first year's students into their houses; "Oh you may not think I'm pretty, But don't judge on what you see, I'll eat myself if you can find A smarter hat than me. You can keep your bowlers black, Your top hats sleek and tall, For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat And I can cap them all. There's nothing hidden in your head The Sorting Hat can't see, So try me on and I will tell you Where you ought to be. You might belong in Gryffindor, Where dwell the brave at heart, Their daring, nerve, and chivalry Set Gryffindors apart; You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal, Those patient Hufflepuffs are true And unafraid of toil; Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you've a ready mind, Where those of wit and learning, Will always find their kind; Or perhaps in Slytherin You'll make your real friends, Those cunning folks use any means To achieve their ends. So put me on! Don't be afraid! And don't get in a flap! You're in safe hands (though I have none) For I'm a Thinking Cap!" 🧙♂️🧙♀️🪄✨⚡🖤 BTW, I was sorted into Gryffindor in the Pottermore (now called Wizarding World) official website. The website was created by the Sony company and the author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling. I had to take a fun and special personality test to find out what house I am in. Go go Gryffindor! ❤💛❤🦁🏰🪄👍
I find this to be perfect. Both franchises came out roughly the same time. Harry Potter, November of 2001, and LOTR FOTR December of 2001. So they do go hand in hand. It was a wonderful time to be a fan of the fantasy genre.
This one of those rare series where they just get better and better as it goes along The author’s goal was to create a series that would age along with their readers.. so they get progressively more mature and have darker themes of good vs evil - and the shades of gray between
I read the books before the movies. The movies follow books very well so I knew what was coming. Snape is a rollercoaster. One of the best characters ever written. Each movie adds to the story.
Girl when you said "I don't even like his voice" about Alan Rickman I paused and yelled "THIS IS BLASPHEMY" lol his voice is iconic, he has one of the sexiest voices everrrr! 😭 I'm guessing it's just because you thought he was evil. Listen to him in interviews or something and you'll get what I mean! But I hadn't seen HP in forever and I really enjoyed rewatching this 1st movie with your reaction, can't wait to watch the rest 😄😀👍
The awe that the both of you had when Hagrid took Harry to Diagon Alley!!! It made me want to inform you that you can visit Diagon Alley yourselves. Universal studios ( both of them) has a full replica of Diagon Alley. Complete with shops you can visit and even Ollivanders wand shop where you can buy yourselves wands.
Oh so we’re gonna go on THIS ride? I’m so here for it! 😆 I was never a Potterhead myself-never read the books-but by about the 3rd or 4th movie I was hooked. Snape is my favorite character, but Alan Rickman was my favorite actor. He was a fabulous actor all around, but played these dark characters especially well. One of the only celebrity deaths that made me cry. I hope you enjoy these enough to go all the way through. In my opinion they just get better (and more serious/dramatic) as the story unfolds, but I know they aren’t for everyone. Especially since this franchise is so embedded in our culture at this point. But it really is a brilliantly written series.
1)lil interesting fact, owls are the most silent birds while flying 2) I have nothing else to say other than you two are the cutest AND YA BETTER POST YOU GUYS WATCHING THE REST LOL
If I recall correctly, Gryffindor house valued courage, Hufflepuff valued loyalty, Ravenclaw valued intelligence and Slytherin valued ambition. Also sad at the passing of Robbie Coltrane, aka Rubeus Hagrid.
Welcome to Pottermania! You've gone down the rabbit hole! I prefer the books, myself, but it's quite possible to enjoy all the movies without reading them. The books get darker (as has been mentioned) as the series goes along, but they also get longer. The producers had to make significant changes from the fourth movie on, to keep the movie length practical. Sometimes clues and whole characters are cut out, leaving the audience to ask questions. But, as I said, the movies can still stand by themselves.
Snapes character is so well written, with no spoilers you will definitely be impressed with Alans acting and writing, i cant wait for the other movies you watch, you earned yourself a sub !
Yes "Muggle" is the term European wizards (and possibly other eastern countries, I can't say for sure) use, while places like America simply refer as "No-Mag" as explained in the book and 3-part movie series: "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them", a spin-off series predating the main HP timeline by 60-70 years.
I love owls! I saw a falconry exhibit in Scotland ten years ago, and the falconer started off by showing his eagle owl. After finishing with him, he set the owl onto the empty bench in front of his podium, which just happened to be the one in front of where I was sitting, so I was just three feet away from this magnificent creature, and I couldn’t stop staring at it. Just stunning!
The casting on these movies were really terrific. Robbie Coletrane was fantastic as Hagrid, Maggie Smith as professor McGonagall, Alan Rickman as Snape, and Richard Harris was wonderful as Dumbledore. Unfortunately, during the filming of the movies, Richard Harris died, so Dumbledore was replaced after just a few movies were filmed.
Alan Rickman made for an incredible Snape, but was an odd choice given his age. Forced them to cast older actors for James, Liily, Sirius, and Lupin too. James and Lily should've been 21 and the rest should've been 31-37 years old throughout the series.
Fang is a Neapolitan mastiff. In Greek mythology Cerberus is a 3 headed dog that guards the gates of hell. It is a centaur not a Minotaur (the Minotaur has the head of a bull). the phoenix gave a feather, not a wing.
YAY! I was hoping you guys would take a trip into the Wizarding World. I wasn't sure if you had already seen this series or not. As everyone will tell you, the plot gets more intense as the years pass, darker themes as Harry & crew grow into their teens. The first two are more of a "kid's movie" but by the end of the series, they have definitely matured & grown into full on drama/action films. Of course there is a TON of details & back stories of characters that were in the novels but left out of the films. This whole series is one incredible journey & it will be interesting to see which of these films will end up being your favorites. My top 3 are: Prisoner of Azkaban (#3), Goblet of Fire (#4), and The Half Blood Prince (#6), but I also love this one because it is our first introduction to this magical world. 😍
Have to say HBP is my least favorite of the films. It is my favorite book though. I just felt that what I loved about the books was left out of the film.
Hi! I love how you both don’t blaspheme or curse! That is so rare these days. I believe you will learn who Snape really is in his character until the last moment from the second to last movie in the series. But it will blow your mind! Love you guys.
If you want more in-depth stuff about everything, you must read the books. One of my favorite Harry Potter reaction journeys was White Noise Reacts because they both watched the films and read the books and had discussions about the differences and the depth of the Harry Potter universe. I know you’ve got kids so it’ll be a little different because of your time schedule, but read the books. You won’t be disappointed and there are some awesome audiobook versions is available. Welcome to the awesome Wizarding World. Also, there’s way more Quidditch in the books and she covers it amazingly.
When you watch the scene of Snape chanting the spell at Harry you can see the other professor near him chanting as well. You can even see him break concentration when snape’s cloak caught fire.
Hagrid was expelled in his 3rd year because of Tom Riddle. His wand was snapped in half. Dumbledore kept him on at Hogwarts and had him trained as gate keeper but had also secretly repaired his wand and it had been hidden inside the umbrella.
Another great reaction. You'll love watching the other Harry Potter movies. Surprised you didn't recognise Alan Rickman after just watching Die Hard. Snape is Hans! To be fair he does look quite different, and is older here, but that voice is unmistakable.
I am a Gran over 60 and introduced my grandkids to Harry Potter gradually. Last year we visited Harry Potter Wizarding world in the London studios where the films were made. It was fabulous! Moving through the sets were the movies were filmed and so many interactive exhibits. Showing how they did all the special effects, costumes, making the goblin masks. We spent over 5 hours there and I would go back in a heartbeat! We all loved every minute. Looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the movies… there is so much still to come.
I think most grandmothers are Hufflepuff with a touch of Gryffindor. They're loving, supportive, and make treats, but put a grandchild in danger, and they have the courage of lions!
Omg -- Im so happy to see you watching these wonderful movies -- Your gonna have so much fun and we will have a blast watching you both fall into these stories
So so glad to see you react to this series. Please watch all. Snape was and will always be my favorite character. I’ve watched each movie at least 10 times or more. Each time I get something new from them. Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed it. ❤❤
The really cool thing about these movies is that the storyline matures as the main characters grow up. Not to mention, the supporting cast is a who's who of award-winning UK actors. -- Have fun on your Harry Potter journey!
Actually, in the book, Dumbledore's first words before the dinner were "Nitwit, blubber, oddment, and tweak." It was after dinner he said all the announcements.
You guys are my favorite channel hands down. There are only a few other TH-cam reactors I love to watch, but you two are the most genuine, and you both put a smile on my face every time you release a new video.
The GREAT Alan Rickman, the villain in Die Hard, played Snape...a HUGE character in the series. NOBODY could've played it better. You'll learn A LOT about Snape as the movies go on.
I remember waiting in crazy lines at book stores with my mom when a new book was released. She told me something I told my kids now who love the books and movies, how wild and amazing it is that one person wrote this incredible series, what an imagination 👏. Hope you continue the series.
As the young cast has said, Alan Rickman took all the kids under his wing. Mentored them. Made them laugh. Learned life lessons and how to be a great actor. Apparently he was the most beloved of all of them with the kids.
Funny since his memoirs suggested they really tried his patience.
@@hingethunder @LibbyRN Both things are interesting to know\think of. Even more interesting - they're not mutually exclusive. Maybe by trying his patience the kids got all said experiences from him

I’m glad you chose to watch Harry Potter. Robbie Coultrane, who plays Hagrid, just passed in October. This is a great tribute to him!
He was such an amazing actor, before Hagrid he was in a gritty police drama called Cracker, amazing show.
He was also in a comedy Nuns in the Run with Eric Idle! If you like British humour, you’d like it.
Also the Voice Actor for the sorting hat also passed away about a month or so after Robbie Coltrane did
Oh no! I didnt know he passed! RIP Robbie Coltrane! 🙏
At least get his surname right. It's Coltrane.
Ron is the youngest son in a family of overachievers, his brothers were all successful at school either in Quidditch or Prefects or Head boys so Ron sees himself achieving all of that and more in the mirror. Any achievements he has are downplayed because he’s not the first to do it in his family, it’s kinda sad when you think about it 🥺
And even then his only younger sibling is Ginny who's the only girl and whom ends up being quite awesome.
@@silverkyre At least in the books
@@ryapowa yep
He is the youngest but to say that his achievements are downplayed is a bit of an overstatement. His visions in the mirror are that he wishes he was on his own doing all those achievements. That he had no siblings because he feels overshadowed. Trying to explain this and not spoiling is extremely hard but imma just say Mrs. Weasley is a saint.
They did Ron dirty in the movies. He was a lot smarter in the books.
I know ppl won’t see this, but the little fact that your dad cared so much to be involved with your brother he carved him a wand. 🥹 I love that! Made my heart warm.

I love how this couple has said they have no history with this series but predicted something from the fourth movie and they're not even done watching the first one yet but to be fair hagrid was bigger in the books they say he was twice as tall as a normal man and five times as wide

Ikr! Its so obvious when you watch it againthat its Quirrel and not Snape jinxing harry but when i first watched it i had no clue
If you watch again the scene with the quidich game, you can clearly see Quirell at the back giving the spell to Harry. But everyone focuses on Snape. Clever cinematography there.
Yes, its not something that you would pick up on a first viewing as your eyes are drawn towards Snape
Lol I was gunna post something similar but yeah. When you don’t know you watch snape (rip Allan Rickman) but when you know you watch quirrell. It’s a great subversion of expectations
And Snape literally knocks him backwards
yeah when quirrel said that he was the one who was jinxing the broom I went back and rewatched that scene and focused on quirrel who wasn't blinking
No spoilers,please!
Why people always have to bash the first movies ?
He even asked for details to her because he wanted to act well and he so succeeded, favorite char in books and movies.

I mean, Dumbledore learned that lesson in one of the worst ways himself.

2nd movie is not that good imo. They start getting good at 3. 4th is my favorite book, but the films get better and better from 3rd.
I went to see it with my nan, I remember she jumped at the face in the book and I laughed at her and we still talk about it to this day lol

Alan Rickman plays Snape so well. Fantastic Actor. Gone too soon. RIP ❤

Also I gotta say RIP to the wonderful Robbie Coltrane aka Hagrid 💔
Definitely! The story grows with their age too. This one is so magical and kind of a kids movie and it grows to such a dark and intense story.
Yes. They do. First two are gentler HP. The Goblet of Fire is my favorite.
I never noticed in this one when Harry gets his letter, his uncle mentions "Oh, Marge is ill". Marge? Just wait for #3 . . . .

Don't forget January Man, and Blow Dry.
I haven't seen this in years and comparing them from here to the last film is fantastic! They grew so much. Neville was ao brave even then!

Tolkien, who inspired Stephen King?
So basically each of the 4 houses represent a value:
Gryffindor is bravery
Slithering is ambition
Hufflepuff is empathy
And lastly Ravenclaw is intelligence.
Basically if you read the books you would know many of the lines in the books that were Ron’s are Hermiones in the movie, although the movies are absolutely amazing they paint Ron to be useless and dumb when he really isn’t.
Is more like you love them or you hate them. I am on the first bunch XD
And we will be there to clear up any misconceptions on the family and the house. As his mother is one of the greatest. Even in the books Malfoy is pretty darned cool and even smarter than Hermione.
Ron - "she knows more about you than you do!"
Harry - "who doesnt?"

Every generation who read the books when they came out were on the journey with Harry and his friends, and every generation who reads them from then on is on the same journey.
The Hobbit is a good kid's book.
The insane thing is, that Quirel or what his name is, was in every scene where they wanted you to think that Snape is the bad one. Brilliant
In 40 years we can watch your review of the cinematography of the HBO series, live!
@@lS-je3udohhhh I'm so excited about the show, so many pages from the books being brought to life that the movies missed
From the innocence of the first movie, to the dark but genius last movie, they are a cinematic masterpiece from start to finish.
I’m not familiar with the series but it’s genius to mature the subject matter with the actors and the original audience
I did that for my much younger sister - as much as I could. She was 4th grade when these started.
That is SO cool! Waaaay better than whatever he missed in school on those days.
Thank you all for sharing those anecdotes. Great family memories to have.
They're not going to read the books...
@@dougdougw why not?!
Aye! I'm glad you guys liked the first movie. I read the books over and over as a kid as they were still coming out, and it's so cool seeing people still appreciate how rich the world of Harry Potter is to this day!
I hope you’ve seen the three Harry Potter musicals starting Darrin Criss here on youtube. I hope they watch them after the 8 movies.
This is the song that the Sorting Hat sings in the book version of Sorcerer's Stone before he sorted the first year's students into their houses;
"Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

BTW, I was sorted into Gryffindor in the Pottermore (now called Wizarding World) official website.
This one of those rare series where they just get better and better as it goes along
The author’s goal was to create a series that would age along with their readers.. so they get progressively more mature and have darker themes of good vs evil - and the shades of gray between
I read the books before the movies. The movies follow books very well so I knew what was coming. Snape is a rollercoaster. One of the best characters ever written. Each movie adds to the story.
Each movie is a stand alone masterpiece, but together as a collection is just amazing. Please binge watch this.....Please!
The third film in the Harry Potter franchise is perfection imo!!!❤❤❤
1)lil interesting fact, owls are the most silent birds while flying
2) I have nothing else to say other than you two are the cutest AND YA BETTER POST YOU GUYS WATCHING THE REST LOL
I am so glad y'all are embarking on this series! I know you will absolutely love it.
I Agree!
You’ll learn more and more about Snape as the story goes on. 😊 Can’t wait for you guys to see the progression of the movies as the characters grow up!
J K Rowling had a big say in the casting. She insisted on British actors and had several in mind like Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid.
Those 3 are my favorites too!
Have to say HBP is my least favorite of the films. It is my favorite book though. I just felt that what I loved about the books was left out of the film.
@@karlevans9427 That's exactly how I feel. HBP has always been my fav book but least fav film. Fav film is POA.
Yes, just as the books do :~)
Same here-I wished more back story was in the movie-it explains so much. But, still love the movies and my fav books😊
🤩🤩🤩This makes me SO happy! There is a WHOLE LOT more coming in the next 7 movies! You've embarked on a long and twisty adventure. Love you guys!! ❤❤❤
John Voth reading and reacting while he read them was my favorite. I love seeing people discover the series for the first time.
ohh i loved their reaction of the books from white Noise :)
Now that's a groovy grandma!
@@bjdefilippo447 Thank you. Because of the grey streak in my hair my grandkids call me Granny Badger and decided I should be in Hufflepuff! 🤣🤣
I think most grandmothers are Hufflepuff with a touch of Gryffindor. They're loving, supportive, and make treats, but put a grandchild in danger, and they have the courage of lions!
@@bjdefilippo447 what a lovely way to look at it. I will quote your words when they next call me Granny Badger!
They give all Ron's brilliance to Hermione, in the books she is book smart but usually it's her who panicks.
So happy you guys enjoyed LOTR which will always have a special place for me. I’m excited to see your new different journey in Harry Potter! ✨
Omg -- Im so happy to see you watching these wonderful movies -- Your gonna have so much fun and we will have a blast watching you both fall into these stories
Cereberus is indeed the 3 headed dog from greek mythology. In the book, Hagrid buys Fluffy (the giant dog) from "a greek chapie at the pub"
So so glad to see you react to this series. Please watch all. Snape was and will always be my favorite character. I’ve watched each movie at least 10 times or more. Each time I get something new from them. Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed it. ❤❤
Don't ruin it for them. Lol
The really cool thing about these movies is that the storyline matures as the main characters grow up. Not to mention, the supporting cast is a who's who of award-winning UK actors. -- Have fun on your Harry Potter journey!
Actually, in the book, Dumbledore's first words before the dinner were "Nitwit, blubber, oddment, and tweak."
It was after dinner he said all the announcements.
Love this series. It gets better with every movie and there are 8 total. So buckle up.
So excited for this! I found the channel only a couple weeks ago and have been binging your videos. Excited for you guys to watch these movies.
The original casting for these films was 👍 some of the replacements though
I remember waiting in crazy lines at book stores with my mom when a new book was released. She told me something I told my kids now who love the books and movies, how wild and amazing it is that one person wrote this incredible series, what an imagination 👏. Hope you continue the series.
Ms. J.K. Rowling. ( British ) and now very very Wealthy.
@@tradeladder146 It took her less than 10 years to become a billionaire.
RIP Robbie Coltrane a true genius and a legend, always so good in every role
So excited to see your reactions to the rest of the series! Also, your reactions to seeing Voldemort on the back of Quirrell's had me rolling. 😂
Oh my...me too! Amber your frozen face was awesome. Bwhahaha. You guys crack me up!
