What a fantastic story, to earn a living at what you love doing is one of lifes greatest achievements ,,,,,,well done sir ,,,, David Webster Norfolk U.K.
I was classically trained and amaze at people who can play by ear- Spike your a gem and definetly a keyboardest to contend with. I relate to what your saying here.TY. I used to sneak into the Julliard practice rooms with my rock anthologys- Elton, Carole King, etc. I almost didn't graduate for missing so many classes!
I cannot believe he just broke out with DURAN DURAN!!! I was watching because I'm a Queen fan...but Duran Duran was my 1st & only #1 for the longest! Now Queen has evened up with them (or maybe even surpassed them??) So yeah, now I'm a Duranie & a Queenie. Haha. Spike is such an engaging interview...I didn't expect to watch the whole video, but his life is so interesting, I just kept watching. I literally screamed when he said Duran Duran. LOL. I did not expect that at all. He played on the Planet Earth -Night Version??? I LOVE that version. Awwww....YAY SPIKE!!! (I saw Queen 3x in 2019, so I've seen him live too!) Excellent interview! :)
I would LOVE it if Queen put in lots more meerkat tracks! I wish they could do a tour in small venues where they played mostly little known tracks! My same wish for Duran Duran. (If we ever get back to live shows!)
I wonder if any live shows were recorded when he speaks of when they would just play live and were looking for recording contracts? How about rehearsals?
The interview who was why too young lost so many opportunities to get so much out of Spike. A shame really. I don't think he even knew who Spike was, or his real relationship with Queen. I first saw him with Queen both nights at Wembley in July 1986 when I was 11.
so what i get from the interview spike doesn‘t even know all the queen stuff because he actually is a motown and soul fan, has many other gigs besides queen and only ever played the hits on the queen tours and even sometimes must think about this stuff when they rehearse.......interesting. one should tell him about the queen-songs „soul brother“ or „cool cat“ and „dancer“. so he probably doesn’t know these songs which obviously have got the motown-vibe he is in love with😁. at least he agrees with the interviewer that queen is one of the greatest bands😉. ......and musically most talented as well which you can see here: th-cam.com/video/aA2IRoPFIn0/w-d-xo.html ....one of the best performances of any bands i‘ve ever seen. also interesting of spike: th-cam.com/video/j-qoKP5mEWo/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/mwDBvvipkD4/w-d-xo.html
I'm surprised Spike sorta treated playing with Queen was like a NO Big Deal..."saying oh they can play a bit""....he gushes over Stevie Wonder...he acts like playing with Queen was like playing with everyday musicians....go watch him play guitar in 1984 concerts,he looked like he was having an organism being thrilled on to keyboards with Freddie on his back and May slashing out Hammer to Fall with him...honestly if I'm Brain May & Roger Taylor I'd kick his ungrateful ass to the bar pubs and save lots of money hiring a new dud with faster,GRATFUL fingers,it's not rocket science what he contributes....Stevie Wonder OMG...I guess he's trying to go work for him now, kissing his butt now that QUEEN may end their 52yr reign after this 2023 World tour...
Spike at Wembley with Queen, during Hammer To Fall when Brian is soloing alongside Spike and Freddie doing his pushups.......Spike's face of pure joy!
Brilliant... loved it all... Spike seems such a lovely guy!
I can hear Freddie say, "on the piano, Mr Spike Edney".... great interview.
Thanks for the great interview!

Great interview. It’s listening to music history from the late sixties to the present.

Disappointed!!!! He is in probably the best group of all time and doesn't realise or respect it🤦♂️Disappointed spike
He’s literally deriding the hand that feeds him. What a louse! Taking Queen like they are nothing special. I am actually shocked.
Comes across as a bit arrogant when talking about Queen. Someone needs to remind me how many hits this hired hand has written. I've got it as zero.
intervewer is too young ta ask proper queen questions!!!!
To not know Cozy Powell was not good....
