*LYRICS - Wrong Side of Tomorrow (Emmett Original)* ------------ Wakin' up on a concrete slab On the other side of the railroad tracks A puddle of shame poolin' around my head My good sense upped and left me for dead I wanna quit, but then again I don't Say I'll do better, but I know I won't Keep thinkin' one day I will change my ways But it's always too little, too late The wrong side of tomorrow A day late and a dollar short Just how low do I have to go Before I finally change my course? I say I need just one more chance And a five-step plan to follow But here I am again On the wrong side of tomorrow A year ago I had a woman's love A warm soft bed and a roof above Till that day when it all went south She came home and, well, she threw me out She said "Hon, I ain't lettin' you in Till you sober up an' you try again" Don't sound that hard, till you're knee-deep in it But I can do it, if she give me a minute The wrong side of tomorrow A day late and a dollar short Just how low do I have to go Before I finally change my course? I say I need just one more chance And a five-step plan to follow But here I am again On the wrong side of tomorrow Time has never been on my side The more I buy, the more it flies The wrong side of tomorrow A day late and a dollar short Just how low do I have to go Before I finally change my course? Great song on a serious topic. It definitely puts the "blue" in blue grass. Emmett has the perfect voice for this and who can argue with Julianne and Ellen providing harmonies? Or Matt and Momma laying down the baseline. And of course there's some of Katie's smoking fiddling too. Absolutely awesome song, but I think I'm missing some things that make it special. I'll probably need to listen to it another 50 times to pull all those together...
I really enjoyed this one! I listened to the entire thing thinking it was a cover of an old bluegrass song. Then I saw that Emmett wrote it. Wow! Instant classic! Thank you!
OMG Emmett! You are always writing and singing great songs. You are a perfect fit for the Petersen's, the hands down the best country and bluegrass band around. God bless you all!
Outstanding new original bluegrass song from Emmett with excellent harmony from Ellen and Julianne. A great way to start the 2024 music video season! When I asked Emmett last year in Amsterdam about his new tunes on IG he said that for the time being they were going to stay there. Well, I'm so glad he now decided otherwise. This one sounds so good with the full band. I hope The Petersens keep doing these more traditional bluegrass songs from time to time, especially originals. BTW, seeing that lonely bass lying there in front of all those trees I was more or less anticipating some sort of Steel Rails outro.😁 But no antics this time, just a wonderful moment of tranquility between the Ozarks in early spring.
Fantastic song Emmet!!!! You guys were really tight! I loved the way that Katie drove that fiddle. Love those fast songs where you can really open things up on the instrumentals. Great job!!
Emmett that is a terrific song you wrote. Perfect for the Petersen's to perform alongside you. I really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work on original songs.
Emmett: Wow spectacular rhythm, lyrics, & vibe!! Everyone played their special roles: Katie great violin! Ellen steady twang! Everyone so attuned to each other! So lucky to have each other for great music & otherwise! 🤩
Hey Petersens! Way to go Emmett! This is Amazeballs! And welcome back Petersens after a long cold lonely winter! Great to see you almost all survived it. (R.I.P. Matt's 'Stache!😅)💕
Great job everyone!!! Emmett, you have written some really good stuff, this may be the best thing yet. When you look at classic bluegrass, no matter how dark or deep the message the music wasn't dirgelike. It was almost bright. This is a great bluegrass tune with a really fine story as well. Really fine job Emmett. Everybody sounded great as well. Music was hot and the harmonies were spot on. What a treat to get something from y'all today. Can never get enough of The Petersens. Y'all stay safe and well!!
I recently found this channel by accident. I am so blown away. Not only by your talent musically, but also how decent you all come across. My kids will definitely grow up watching every one of your videos. Also - what a cool song Emmett! I was really impressed with your performance in "The Scientist". Glad that you are leading another track for the Petersens. Sorry for the long comment and God bless you guys!
This one's going straight to the top of my favorites list! So well written, arranged and performed. Wouldn't be surprised if a major artist picked it up and had a hit with it. It's that good.
This pleases our love of bluegrass. Excellent in every way. Heads up. If you haven't watched the latest Petersen Chat...recorded Saturday...you are missing pure entertainment. In addition to Emmett providing some insider details of how he penned this WSOT, there are so many fun stories...the kind that produces happy face laughter. It's only about 35 minutes or so...but so feel good funny.
Awesome work and well done! I grew up in Philly listening to Hard Rock and Hip Hop....because of you guys not only am I now listening to bluegrass, my daughter and I just signed up for a bluegrass guitar workshop! Thanks for introducing it to us!
Very, very, very nice piece of bluegrass heritage. Music itself is just fine, but the text make it great! Never been in Appalachian, but this song put my mind somewhere there!
Watching from Scotland- always love Emmetts voice and would love to hear more duets with Katie. This song brings out the best in all of your talents. Well done 👍
I have to say that your family is very talented with the instruments that you each play and your voices are absolutely amazing I just happened to come across your music by accident when looking through the headline news on my phone this morning I'm glad that I did because mama tried is one of my favorite Merle Haggard song I'm going to become a big fan of yours from now on can't wait to hear some of your own original music.thanks and God bless
I can't get enough of this song. It should have many more views already. Unfortunately, as Ellen pointed out in the Live Chat, the TH-cam algorithm doesn't promote the originals as much as the covers. So, how to change that? Well, I was thinking, maybe it's an idea to let your next original be about a girl, Jolene, who's wakin' up beside a country road, saying nothing at all.😁 Maybe that would do it.😂
Hi Frank, Be patient. I am certain that this song is getting some notice. And the numbers are reallly not bad at all. I suspect that sooner than later a very recognizable name will decide to record it...and that will be the success story you are looking for...But you can't hold GOOD down...and this song is GOOD. It will have its day in the spotlight. And hopefully many of the songs on Katy s album will get some of that deserved recognition. We listen to Katy s album regularly because it is GOOD.
Hi Frank. You've hit a sore spot! Unfortunately, Ellen is right. Originals don't have the same views as covers. I don't know if it's just a question of algorithm or it's actually a fact that the YT audience searches for those songs they already know. It's not just this Emmett song that is beautiful and hopefully will soon become a bluegrass classic, but so many wonderful songs written by Katie and, more recently by Julz, don't get the recognition they deserve. Suffice it to say that that authentic masterpiece "We Don't Need Anything this Year", written by Katie for last Christmas, does not reach 200,000 views to date 😪 I don't know what can be done to change this trend, probably greater advertising diffusion , at a media level (especially radio), could solve it.
Of course, you are correct. Look at rwo videes released close to the same time, Sherwood and the over worked, over done Shenendoah. The first, chugging along with decent numbers while the later headed for the Million views mark. People go for the familiar ... the comfortable. And indeed, knowing a radio Dj would be helpful to go the fast track route...but often that requires big money agents and promoters....politics is everywhere. But I do believe that talent and good music with building a strong, loyal fan base wins.
Outstanding song and performance! It's been awhile since you posted a music video . Appears the new grass rising up and the sun has brought you out of hibernation! HUGE LIKE!!!
Emmett is multi talented and very good at his craft. Just caught a Petersens show last Thursday in Branson. Loved everything about it. Got a good laugh when Matt embarrassed himself with a slip of the tongue trying to say when they first started out. Hope you all have a great year and I’m sure I’ll try to catch another show.
I've always said that there are great songwriters in the band! And this is yet more proof of this! Welcome back guys with this wonderful song by Emmett! We really missed you, three months is a long time! ❤

Wow Emmett, you really outdid yourself here! PERFECT bluegrass song with irresistible swing! Everyone so perfect here, kicking in at the right time - here actually Matt's guitar so solid!! If even one instrument was lacking, would suffer: Violin, Dobro, Mandolin, Bass, those oboe-like vocals of Emmett - & lyrics are as catchy as the tune & rhythm. Sounds like a classic, which I hope with crossed crosses, it will be!! Amazing, like Katie's song about her Ozark Mountain Home - classic Americana/country songs!!!! not to mention the earned compliment that everyone is so modest & adorable. We should def play this song for our substance abuse patients - their plan is actually 10 steps.
Great song Emmet! Matt sure has a clean clear sound on the guitar and Katie plays that fiddle with her whole body. Julianne’s voice was made for the high lonesome harmonies of bluegrass music and of course Mama and Ellen always doing their great job.
Wonderful bluegrass song. Lyrics were great. Excellent performance by all. Just a word of advice for Katie, be careful that your fiddle doesn't burst into flames while you're playing 😊
I am NOT surprised at how incredibly AWESOME this performance was. Fantastic song and, as always, AMAZING vocals and instrumentation!!!!! THANKS EVERYONE!!!
*LYRICS - Wrong Side of Tomorrow (Emmett Original)*
------------
Wakin' up on a concrete slab
On the other side of the railroad tracks
A puddle of shame poolin' around my head
My good sense upped and left me for dead
I wanna quit, but then again I don't
Say I'll do better, but I know I won't
Keep thinkin' one day I will change my ways
But it's always too little, too late
The wrong side of tomorrow
A day late and a dollar short
Just how low do I have to go
Before I finally change my course?
I say I need just one more chance
And a five-step plan to follow
But here I am again
On the wrong side of tomorrow
A year ago I had a woman's love
A warm soft bed and a roof above
Till that day when it all went south
She came home and, well, she threw me out
She said "Hon, I ain't lettin' you in
Till you sober up an' you try again"
Don't sound that hard, till you're knee-deep in it
But I can do it, if she give me a minute
The wrong side of tomorrow
A day late and a dollar short
Just how low do I have to go
Before I finally change my course?
I say I need just one more chance
And a five-step plan to follow
But here I am again
On the wrong side of tomorrow
Time has never been on my side
The more I buy, the more it flies
The wrong side of tomorrow
A day late and a dollar short
Just how low do I have to go
Before I finally change my course?
I say I need just one more chance
And a five-step plan to follow
But here I am again
On the wrong side of tomorrow
The wrong side of tomorrow [x2]

"This is an old bluegrass song that Emmett just wrote". All joking aside, a great song and beautifully performed.

'Instant classic!' sums this song up perfectly.

Yes instant classic ...
Right?!
I don't compliment Emmett enough, but his picking skills absolutely blow my mind every time I watch him. He's an excellent songwriter as well.
Your band would not be the same without Emmett. He adds so much to your success. 😊
The band wouldn't be the same without any member to be honest they all fit perfectly together
Like bread and butter.
A song about hard times. This is what music is for!

“A puddle of shame poolin' around my head”
