Russell Malone plays a "monster" solo but Benny Green seems to never run out of ideas. Christian McBride takes on huge task of backing these musicians and then plays an articulate and challenging solo. They carry the tradition to a new level of excellence!
I’m a metal guitar guy, but this performance is so masterful and musical (and technical), I feel compelled to add Malone to my playlist. What an astonishing master. RIP.
Wow! Russell Malone just knocks me *out*. Really all three of these cats do--they're such great masters of their respective instruments. And this is a very "technical" tune, a real work out for the fingers. But to take it at that blistering tempo, and yet play so musically, with such great variety & feeling, and great interplay between the voices--it's a thing of real beauty.
so sorry he died, a great guitar player. I remember seeing him at North Sea Jazz with benny green, they were performing as a duo. Blistering fast solos by the both of them endless ideas..., it was a great concert.
Damn! I keep running into old TH-cam videos of some really great musicians from back in the day (the 90s) I had never heard of before. I keep asking myself how the hell did I miss this player or that player! Always considered myself very informed of who's who and what's what in music for most of my life. TH-cam, on the other hand, makes me feel like I've been living under a rock all my life! Outstanding!
I will never forget Russel Malone I grew up in church hearing him play the guitar for Apostle Revils and the holy mighty Crusaders I am so sadden about his passing 😢😢 all my prayers and sympathy goes out to him and his family Rip Ledgen ❤❤❤❤
Benny recorded with Peterson on the Concord label; also, he was a Jazz Messenger with Art Blakey. This guy has been around and that's why he is so amazing. Love him.
Seriously? He's one of the most gracious, kindest people I know. During one of his shows I caught, a woman shattered a glass during a quiet moment, and afterwards he genuinely THANKED her for it, for keeping him in the present moment. He's got hella respect for the music and for other people.
This is beyond impressive. Russell Malone, Benny Green, and Christian McBride are 2nd coming of Oscar Peterson Trio with Joe Pass and Ray Brown! BG's hypersonic octave riffs are the ultimate display in jazz virtuosity with melodic content. Russell Malone led the Charge like "Secretariat"" out of the gate. CMac got in on the party with a straight up bottoms up low blow to the solo plexus. The trio's exclamation point was "Off da Heezy"! Can u dig it?
Stellar on all counts. I would have liked to see Russell Malone attempt a chord solo, but his delicious virtuosity on single-string lines more than compensated for not imitating Wes. A+
This is a stellar performance. Thanks Sam for hipping me to it. I've seen these guys live before and videos rarely do justice but this one comes close. What an amazing drumless rhythm section this is. Time City.
That tremolo picking and making the changes without missing a lick, is awe inspiring. It was one of those special it all comes together performances for all three of them. I would not have experienced this but for TH-cam and this upload. Thanks
Jesus I came here for Russell's playing and both he and Christian are insane but man my hats of to Benny on this ... Oscar Petersnish in this solo...technique and melodic ideas for days!
One thing about the guitarist community I hate is this holier than thou perception when it comes to people playing fast. Its not a fucking sin , there is nothing wrong with showing off. Hell virtuosity and even performing by nature is showing off. Why should people stifle themselves so that a few arm chair critics can feel like their opinions are valid. There is nothing wrong with appreciating slower paced works but don't disregard those who inject a bit more tempo into theirs, because it really isn't fucking easy to play this fast , this well.
These cats are boss! I love this Bebop stuff! I love it! I swear, Russell Malone and George Benson need to collaborate. They'd both start fires on their guitar fret boards.
R.i.p. giant Russell Malone
You'll never die in our hearts
This was a genius trio
gone way too soon
I'm looking forward to being on the bandstand with Russel and Donald (Golden Striker Trio) in Tokyo, Japan! Aug 25-28 2022
You saw the last show my friend!
Russell Malone plays a "monster" solo but Benny Green seems to never run out of ideas. Christian McBride takes on huge task of backing these musicians and then plays an articulate and challenging solo. They carry the tradition to a new level of excellence!
RIP Russell Malone, one of the greatest living blues and jazz players.
I’m a metal guitar guy, but this performance is so masterful and musical (and technical), I feel compelled to add Malone to my playlist. What an astonishing master. RIP.
Classical musicians are as amazed by this as the rest of us. Jazz is a dragon that you have to ride without fear
Well said sir!
Benny is still killing it. I can't hardly believe I went to high school with this dude.

Malone and McBride are flawless on the wonderful "These Are Soulful Days", a recording every
Green fan must have!!!!!
I already miss Russell Malone terribly. I've never seen him play better than this. Wonderful trio.
How could ANYONE give this thumbs-down??? Even if bop is not your thing this is virtuosity at the highest level - period.
so sorry he died, a great guitar player.
I remember seeing him at North Sea Jazz with benny green, they were performing as a duo. Blistering fast solos by the both of them endless ideas..., it was a great concert.
My friend Mr, Benny Green you're smoking all 88 key's and keeping jazz alive I wish Bish could hear you now. Peace and love. 💚

Rest in peace Russell. You were one of the giants for jazz guitar.

Rest in Peace, Russell...
Thank you for the music...
Beautiful tribute to the great Wes Montgomery. Russell plays it to perfection. I’m completely saddened by his sudden passing.

Benny recorded with Peterson on the Concord label; also, he was a Jazz Messenger with Art Blakey. This guy has been around and that's why he is so amazing. Love him.
Exceptional performance! This is simply a joy to listen to.
A musical triumvirate of spontaneous proportions matched only by the enormity of the legends they emulate!
Rest in Peace. Will miss your beautiful music. He was here at a Jazz Bakery Concert in L.A. not to long ago. Joyce Gordon . A Friend and Fan.
By using the tap feature of my metronome app, I clocked around 350-375 BPM! Astounding tempo, and yet fabulous music not just unbelievable chops.
they are incredible
just WOW! guys like these remind me how incredible it is to be alive today! 🤔
Absolutely incredible playing... amazing. CMcB is not human
and 130.000 people shared this video - this is great! This wonderful music has a place in this world!!!
Hah, I've never seen Russell Malone this young and with such lush hair. And that pianist absolutely TORE UP that solo
Seriously? He's one of the most gracious, kindest people I know. During one of his shows I caught, a woman shattered a glass during a quiet moment, and afterwards he genuinely THANKED her for it, for keeping him in the present moment. He's got hella respect for the music and for other people.
Was that in Seattle?
If so that woman was my mom. :)
Fuckkkk!!!Russell has big balls!!
Amazing !He s a real fighter!
This is beyond impressive.

Superb interplay by 3 fantastic players.
Benny Green shaking his head in amazement at 10:10 says it all...
ok ive listened all night to all guitarists today and now i aint gonna sleep, im going to play some wes and green because these two are my favorite!
Stellar on all counts. I would have liked to see Russell Malone attempt a chord solo, but his delicious virtuosity on single-string lines more than compensated for not imitating Wes. A+
Holy crap!!!! That's god damn fast, but purposefully and immaculately so. Damn damn good playing.
IMPECCABLE
MUSICIANSHIP...........................THANK YOU !!!!!
Wow. Three amazing musicians. Just wow.
This is a stellar performance. Thanks Sam for hipping me to it. I've seen these guys live before and videos rarely do justice but this one comes close. What an amazing drumless rhythm section this is. Time City.
This absolutely smokes!
Humoristic when Russell and Benny are doing the call and respons part! Don't fall of the train speed...yeah! And they stay on! Impressive!
that piano solo was just beastly....some really cool classical elements he through in.
Flawless.
it's just incredible what it takes to play like this
Your Soul Will Rise Again.Blessed Your Soul and Keep On Twanging Your in Heaven
He was playing at the blue note tokyo just until one day before he died. True jazz guitarist.
I consider this vid to be the one best of all times! _Simply AMAZING!
Wow...So impressive. Each one of these guys is just fantastic on their instrument. Bravo!
Simply breathtaking-Bravo!

Christian McBride gluing it all together with that mean upright!!!
wooooahhhh!!! man the way Russell played? rosenwinkel, kreisberg, and the other Clowns can only dream of playing like he did here!
Music can certainly be up tempo and moving and this is !
Top of their game, a rare display of mastery by three master musicians.
Jesus I came here for Russell's playing and both he and Christian are insane but man my hats of to Benny on this ... Oscar Petersnish in this solo...technique and melodic ideas for days!
Simply great!!
holy shit. serious chops here from everyone involved. that bass solo was insane.
Magicians on display.....!!!!!!
This is jazz! And finally a guitar that doesn't sound like a fucking synthesizer.
Hahaha... Fucking synthesizer :)
I couldn't agree more!
then you should listen to Boby Broom, if you haven´t...
araña pucusela seconded, great player and a greater teacher
Impressive performance!!!
Awesome outing!
Can not beat this vibe
Terrific trio
I can't handle the greatness .
Totally reminds me (like another commenter) of Oscar with Joe Pass and NHOP. Beautiful stuff.
+SweetSpotGuitar
I thought the same thing. That pianoist is killing it reminiscent of Oscar and Russell is reincarted Joe Pass and Christian is NHOP
+SweetSpotGuitar Oscar,Joe Pass and NHOP are far superior.
@@Rickriquinho No
I love the way that guitarist rip it.
Refreshing music!

big fan of yours, mr.mcbride

C.G.T. Ukiah, CA

Incredible...
Insane playing by McBride! It's not a walking bass but a _running_ bass.
Sweet. Cheers!
Smokin' hot! Geeeeeeeeez... :)

No excuses.
