Hés one of the true great master of his generation and beyond. A fantastic ambassador for his instrument and a living tribute to the greatest from Bud to Herbie via Horace and Thelonious.
Christian is one of the most talented piano players I've ever heard. I met McCoy Tynet once years ago. Christian is definitely way up there near McCoy. 🎹🎶🎶🎼
I'm a bassist who grew up playing Funk, R&B and many other genres of music, and all I can say is that these three young men are amazing in every sense of the word. Their timing is impeccable and their individual feels are just mind-blowing. Christian McBride is outstanding (as always) and I am reminded of the performance he did with George Duke for the song "It's On", where he added elements of Funk to his groove and just blew that crowd away. There's a great story about Christian McBride finally getting to meet James Brown, who was one of his idols. You all need to watch the clip of that here on TH-cam.
The beginning of the piano solo.. such an amazing walking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Christian Mckbride is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!! what a groove, insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't forget how amazing that drummer was. It takes real talent and an amazing sense of professionalism to hold back and sit in the groove while other musicians soar. As a bassist, I can appreciate a drummer like this. He's astounding
I think a big part of McBride's sound is how consistent each note sounds. It sounds like he plays each note with the same attack, which is not always an easy thing from my experience as a bassist
Great, trio. I remember many many moons ago catching Mr McBride when he was first on the scene and at that time certainly in Europe anyway known as heavy into the a Ray Brown approach. Of course he's always been his own man like the rest of this band .simply fantastic and a joy to listen to World class. Maximum respect and best regards from the UK
Don't normally like hearing "scales" in jazz….but you guys' are incredible just the right amount of tasty blues' licks mixed with harmonic muscle….black American jazz at its best, reminds me of Phineas Newborn…even the name of the track a tip of the hat to Slim Gaillard? the pork pie hat & rhythm….wow great stuff.
Ahh....this would be a historical revision, not an evolution. Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Paul Bley, Keith Jarrett and even Herbie Nichols moved the evolution of improvisation beyond what was played here. I'm not saying there is something wrong with this attempt at re-creating a way of improvising that was prominent in the 1950s, but I will point out that it surely isn't an evolution of anything after or beyond the musicians you mentioned. If anyone is interested in listening to where improvisation evolved post the 1950s you might begin here. Lennie Tristano, Jaki Byard, Andrew Hill, Cecil Taylor, Joe Zawinul, McCoy Tyner, Brad Mehldau, John Escreet, Craig Taborn, Dave Burrell, Vijay Iyer. Gonzalo Rubalacaba, Andy Milne and few dozen others.
i saw mcbride with chick and blade...long ago....in nyc...i was shocked...how can human play that well with such a joy...esp upright...jaco did electric magic, but this is different "animal"...it looks like he is listening stories that bass is sharing with him...thanks for being amazing...love and respect
6:09, that transition out of the drum solo. My god. This pianist is one of the best I've ever heard. Reminds me of McCoy Tyner mixed with Dave Brubeck.
Saw them perform at Pittsburgh Jazz Live International Festival yesterday. This playing is for real, and it's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg! "Awesome" would be an understatement. So glad these young lions are wearing the mantle of jazz.
I could easily listen to this all day long and never tire of it. Superb musicianship is what jazz is all about. And any time the brushes come out, I'm smiling.
i'll be 37 next week, and i'm just getting into jazz after wandering into a club in Philly a while back. i just randomly looked up upcoming jazz shows and bought a ticket for Christian McBride the weekend of my birthday having never listened to his music. came here to check some out and now i'm pretty excited to see him play, i picked a good one.
First heard Fried Pies on Wes Montgomery's Boss Guitar album back in the 1960's. I still have it, in mint condition along with a whole bunch of vinyls of that era, and the turntable (still working) to play them on! This Christian McBride Trio version is perfect.
Absolute proof that jazz, a Fine Art form, is alive and steadily moving heaven-bound. These young lions can, as Ellington said years ago. The first prerequisite for jazz, it must swing. Yes, the have most definitely paid their dues
A great tune from the Boss Guitar which I have listened to since it came out in the 60's. Mel Rhyme was one of the hippest B3 players and blew licks that were heavy and explosive always in the pocket with Wes and Jimmy Cobb. Cobb was a timekeeper, his cymbal drove the beat at astonishing clarity and his touch was amazing, always in the pocket. Christian is remarkable and bass and drums all right in the groove. I love Christian's style. Would like to hear the piano switch to a B3, that would be interesting! Well done guys. Excellent! Sands uses an exciting choice of chord voicings and lines. Drumming is well thought out, holds the groove.
I'm not a big jazz fan but this was insane! My toes are still tapping! These masterfully talented artists rhythmically ripped up the stage and took the nails and the floorboards with them on their way out! Absolutely brilliant and superbly fantastic! Thank you one and all!
I'm an atheist but happily forgive that there are as many as 2 Christians in this trio because they sound just too great to criticize. The young pianist, Christian Sands, is a great find for me. Good phrasing and nice touch.
When your learning to play the drums and you see and hear something this good it's so inspiring. Only thing is you can hear that you need that ride cymbal that cost a small fortune. One day, one day..thank you though for making proper music. Proper ear filling, brain satisfying music. I wish all can understand and enjoy this kind of thing one day.........one day.
WOW! Always loved McBride. Holy cow this kid Sands, what a player !!! I was thinking his right hand reminded me of Peterson, then around 2:05 i'm hearing a McCoy Tyner thing between l/r hands. Damn i gotta listen to great music more. This kinda sh*t'll inspire me to pick up the axe again.
I’m 20 years old and love jazz. It’s alive and well in my generation.
That piano player is on fire- you go young man
Check out his trio in our studios here: th-cam.com/video/osHHuZ_Bm8o/w-d-xo.html

Christian Sands is the MAN
Christian is one of the most talented piano players I've ever heard. I met McCoy Tynet once years ago. Christian is definitely way up there near McCoy. 🎹🎶🎶🎼
I just met him today and started looking him up on youtube. Him and Mcbride are really cool guys
It's crazy how much music 3 people can make when they really know how.
I think "Ulysses and the Christians" would be a fab name for this trio.
Mail it to McBride!!!
LOL
solidwords47 man!
Bro! It actually would
As a drummer learning jazz, his contributions to the podcast, 2 Minute Jazz, are very helpful. He is a tasteful player.

That's some Phineas Newborn level piano playing! Fantastic. They are all masterful players.
Had the orgasmic chance to see these cats live three or four years ago. They already belong to the History of Jazz.
super duper ultra talented 3 piece of exquisite jazz band.
Wes is smiling listening to this, I wish more musicians of this calibre played his compositions, fantastic!
Only one word can describe this group "EXCELLENT".
Love how they come back into the music from that drum solo, those accents are spot on. Christian McBride is my favorite jazz bassist.
I LIKE CHRISTIN MCBRADE HES IS MY BASS PLAYER IN JAZZ I LIKE HIS MUSIC VERY MUCH FROM ANDY NICHOLSON JAZZ FAN
The beginning of the piano solo.. such an amazing walking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Christian Mckbride is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!! what a groove, insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cristian Sands absolutely shreds
Tasteful drummer, you know he's got more chops but we just don't need to hear them, not right now. Makes me happy
Less is more! Love it!
These jazzy guys are awsome, triiiiiiiiiiiiiiio......
huh? who u kiddin...his great chops clear
That is why he is on this date
@@MrSteveHobbs they're definitely clear but he was very tasteful about using them. And he didn't just show off he whole time. Very musical and smart
I think a big part of McBride's sound is how consistent each note sounds. It sounds like he plays each note with the same attack, which is not always an easy thing from my experience as a bassist
Oh really?? 🤣🤣
man, that keyboard player spraying out the arppeggios is just amazing. Then the bassist following up in kind! Amazing trio !!
Tightess jazz trio out there...excellent
How confident are any of us at doing anything as these three gents are at their crafts?! Every note & beat were crisp.
Let me add another relevant adjective......."Passionate"
First time I heard this, I actually shouted out HOT DAMN! during the bass solo.
i think we all did
Keeping good jazz alive
John Doe あ
Also the piano player is wild!!!! Cool. They are able to make a trio sound like a big band. I almost forgot to breath :D
Me too, although I was already there by the piano solo...
What elelegant pianist!!! The group is fantastic!!!!!, good nigth from Spain
Holy piano solo!!!!
C. McBride is top notch. Great Trio. Holy Guacamole man!!!
I think Christain McBride is like a fine wine, just gets better with time. His "Jazz Night In America" program is always worth the listen too!
Glad I clicked on this while looking for something else. So good!
Thanks for watching Alan!
Bass playing is so on the money. perfect time. loveeeee this
A masterclass in how a trio should function.
My favourite trio in modern jazz, these guys are living legends
Man, they are straight fuego. And I think Sands was like 24 or something at the time. Love it!
Thanks for watching Paris!
Great, trio. I remember many many moons ago catching Mr McBride when he was first on the scene and at that time certainly in Europe anyway known as heavy into the a Ray Brown approach. When the pianist started matching his right hand solo with his left :o
Damn these guys can play.
Time to transcribe Christian Sand's entire solo.
Yes!!
Wonderful the touch by pianist Sands, clean and bothhands athletically superquick; a special drummer that's Owens Jr. ; McBride very boppy here !
Awesome! Christian McBride's trio has a new fresh sound.
Christian Sands you are a monster! I thought jazz piano history would had been ended on Chick and Herbie!

I saw this trio once; they were fantastic.
The genesis of cool. The inception of smooth. The first minuet of a hip new day.
Happy Birthday Wes Montgomery.Your light shines daily.!
Black cats hanging around downtown on a full moon playing exquisite soulful jazz music!!!🎶 Just beautiful brothers!!! Thanks for sharing👏👍
Jazz lives. The listening and communication here is as good as it gets.
6:09, that transition out of the drum solo. My god.
This pianist is one of the best I've ever heard. Reminds me of McCoy Tyner mixed with Dave Brubeck.
I couldn't agree more. It's the musicalest drum solo transition. His bass drum is in tune with the song (I thought it was upright bass).
@@ІванГодзинський Absolutely !
I totally agree, would be nice to have a little Bill Evans though!
Very good on your end; I can see it.
The piano player has spent a lot of time in Dave Brubeck's presence, they're very good friends.
That is the fucking reason why I am on this world!!!
Heard that...bro!
The pianist is unreal 😱😱😱🔥🔥🔥
That would be Christian Sands! He stopped by our studios recently with his own trio. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/osHHuZ_Bm8o/w-d-xo.html

amazing, the solos are on point! and the way in which they are so in sync is crazy.
These three just completely cooked! Super tight, tasteful, elevated, and a lot of fun.

Three diamond minds... What great players!
Things like out of time or out of tune don’t exist here but greatest of all time…maybe. They are like one and they are the music
Might be the classiest thing you'll ever see.

The amount of space in Sands' comping is a real lesson for us piano players.

Toller moderner swingender Jazz mit einem Wahnsinnstrio.
Pianist reminds me of McCoy Tyner's style! Sick performance indeed.
That’s one of the first things that came to my mind
@@GeometryDashDyno mine too lol
This made my morning! Tight! These guys are awesome
Excelente trio con MacBride al frente en el bajo. La pura esencia de jazz.
Hopped on for a couple of stops, ended up reaching the bus station. Superb stuff guys.
Watched this many times. Amazed how tightly the ensemble comes in together at 6:08 following the drum solo.
fantastic drum solo
los voy a escuchar mil veces... ¡WES!
Super jazz trio, excellent performance! Love it
Whoa.... these guys are so tight. Super-bossy skills... aka. Real artists ! Love their work .
