Joan Cusack is everything in this movie lmao. She delivers two of my favorite lines with "WOULD YOU LIKE A HUG?!" and "all of your children are missing 🤷♀️"
Joan and John Cusack are great people. My landlord met Joan at her house in Chicago. I ran into John twice at the Malibu Inn in California. He recognized my Chicago accent right away. Bought me and my wife a round of drinks just to let him know what was going on back in Chi-town. Humble, honest and real.
I was teaching guitar at the time, and used this movie as inspiration for the kids. One kid wanted to learn Zak's song and he crushed it! Then later we had a summer program called School of Rock and I rehearsed a band of kids on like three or four tunes, and we did a concert for the parents. They ate it up! That was a great summer.
It kinda breaks my heart that there are people out there still who need to be told about Tenacious D. Don't they know they performed The Greatest Song In The World? And beat a Demon at his own game.
School of Rock is an utter joy. Led Zepplin were notorious for never allowing their music in films until this movie where Jack and the cast sent a begging video to Led Zepplin. Its in the special features and bO0m.. Zep are in School of Rock🤘🏻😁🤘🏻
This should be a class. When you think about it Jack black is the best teacher ever. He found rols for everyone. Something they loved, and souther were good at. At he let it grow and he encouraged them. When the little guy wanted to make the outfits, DO IT! You don't wanna be a roadie wanna be a manager? DO IT! wanna sing? DO IT! He never stopped encouraging these kids. He found what they liked and what they were good at and told them to be the best at it. Fun fact the band got back together for a few shows with Jack black like 10 years after this movie
"School of Rock" (the actual school) had it's beginnings in 1996, but prior to the movie, the school only had one actual location. After the movie came out, locations popped up all over the place. Videos from the past few years shows that these kids in the program are really great.
School Of Rock is a work of genius. Not only is it a genuinely brilliant and comprehensive education in Rock & Roll, it's also utterly hilarious, perfectly cast and extremely well written. Mike White, Jack Black and Richard Linklater deserve so much credit for this film, but also the incredible kids that make up that class. When a film is so quotable like this you know its done its job and then some. There are countless favourite moments I have in this film, but one that always makes me cackle with laughter is the way Joan Cusack delivers "I've just been informed, all of your children are missing". (Also RIP to Kevin Clark who sadly passed away 2 years ago at just 32 years old.)
This movie is incredible. This is just Jack Black lifting this kids up and telling them stop listening to 'the man' and do what their passionate about. Every single one had a place, no one was left out and EVERYONE was embraced. This is a gem of a movie. I had this movie on DVD and some of the kids did the commentary, it was so wholesome.
Hey, funny seeing you dudes here! I too wish you could react to this one. If you haven't seen it, High Fidelity is great and is also full of young Jack Black musicality.
Jack Black also sings & plays rhythm guitar for the band Tenacious D...which was also a show on HBO, and also a film "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny".

Yes the kids are actual musicians. There's a video on You Tube where Jack and the kids did a ten year reunion. Unfortunately, Freddy got hit by a car and killed in 2021. RIP Kevin Clark.

One of my all time favorites. The reunions are awesome to watch as well. RIP to Kevin Clark who played Freddy Jones. He’ll forever live on through this film!
A real life professional musician has been teaching a kids rock music school in my city for years. A few made a living playing music. Others just stayed off the streets and their lives were enriched and happier for it.
It’s reacting to these types of gem movies that make this such an amazing channel. Wonderful to share someone’s first time seeing a movie that I grew up watching over and over and have seen in entirely new ways through the years.
Jack Black was born for this role. He and the kids had a great relationship and to this day remain in touch. Very recently they had a reunion with him and all the kids now fully grown adults.
Hey Ames, here's a few more great music-themed movies: The Commitments (1991) Unemployed young folks in Ireland form a band playing American Soul music. Crossroads (1986) Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid/Cobra Kai) is a classical guitar student at Julliard who hooks up with an old school Delta Blues harmonica legend. Honkytonk Man (1982) Clint Eastwood is a depression era songwriter/musician trying to make it to the Grand Ole Opry. Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) Coen Bros. film starring Oscar Isaac as a struggling folk musician in 1960s Greenwich Village, NYC. Purple Rain (1984) Prince is a struggling Minneapolis club musician trying to reach that next tier of greatness. The Blues Brothers (1980) Two low-life ex-cons try to reunite their RnB band to raise money to save the orphanage where they grew up. True Stories (1986) A docu-film of a fictional small Texas town, told as a full-length music video featuring all songs by the Talking Heads.
As a former math teacher, yes, parents are rough. Parent teacher conferences were the worst. I taught at a title 1(poverty stricken) middle school. It was rough.
This movie is two hours of Jack Black teaching those kids (and people in general, including the viewer) to be confident in who they are and to pursue the things you're passionate about without worrying about getting approval from others. And you'll notice that he never hesitated to let the couple of kids that wanted to change their role in the band, to change their role in the band. For example, the one kid that wanted to be the band's stylist rather than be part of security; Dewey just said, with no absolutely zero hesitation, "Of course you can, Fancy Pants." No judgments, no weird looks, no questions about why that's what he wanted... he just let him do it. It's a great movie with a lot of teachable moments that everyone can benefit from. I really loved how much this movie got you smiling and laughing 😊
I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s with a lot of this music. Back when public schools were teaching music, band and choir. Wood, metal and electric shops. After school programs for kids were normal and fun. We need to get back to investing in the next generations again. Btw, this movie does Rock..
Either a lot of people have notifications on or this popped up on people recommended or this channel and the subs are just that goodZ but 9k views in under 10 hours on a channel that has less 100k (59k subs) subs is NUTS!
Always love watching your reactions, but this one (sorry for the pun) rocked. Your sincerity makes it a lot of fun and you have such a great sense of humor. Thanks.
Wow another classic! This movie means so much to me, gave me a new found love for music. I saw it in theaters with my mom, had the soundtrack on CD and played it everyday. In my Top 10 favorite of all time. Jack Black is just 🤌🏼
In my opinion, this is one of THE most influential movies made in the 21st century. Before this film was released, most kids had no appreciation whatsoever for music that was made before they were born. School of Rock is single-handedly responsible for kids today listening to Zeppelin, AC/DC and the Stones.
That is absolutely ridiculous, every line of this comment. It's a great movie, but everything you just said is fiction fantasy. ESPECIALLY when you're talking about Zeppelin, AC/DC and (to a lesser extent) The Stones. Those bands have NEVER gone out of style, every generation discovers them, through a whole variety of avenues (first and foremost, their parents and their older brothers and sisters). In the 80s, those bands continued to be big, in the 90s same exact thing. Amy knew all the songs being referenced (even knew who Lemmy was), and had never seen the movie (although she had played Guitar Hero. Probably as much of an influence, if not more than this movie). I'm not saying the influence was negligible, but that's completely idiotic. I worked at the club they filmed the first scene of this movie (I was there), we had the real School Of Rock playing there, like, the next year, doing an all Zappa show.
Joan Cusack deserves an Oscar, because she went from The Addams Family Values to this wholesome roll of lovable School Principal. She has the talent and the range… just please give her what she has earned! ❤
One of my favourite movies of all time. Great acting, great music, wholesome, funny and even with some positive messages (i.e. inclusivity, body positivity and whatnot). I saw it the first time soon after it came out in 2003 when I was 15. Our English teachers organised a field trip to our local cinema for all English classes (non native speakers, btw). It was before opening hours, so we had the cinema for ourselves. Great fun! I've been a fan of School of Rock ever since. I believe Jack Black when asked how similar he was to Dewey Finn, answered along the lines of Dewey is mostly him just slightly exaggerated. The main difference being that Jack Black could live without Music, while Dewey couldn't. Unfortunately, I cannot find the source, so take my memory with a salt of grain. Anyway, very fun reaction to an awesome movie!
Ames, I have a request in regards to the editing. Can you please keep your face on the screen? Your reaction is the focus of the video. It's jarring and a lull when the video cuts away to only the movie. You're a blast. Thank you for all the work you put into these videos.
Jack IS a great musician, mainly bc of the passion he puts in his music. When you're in the mood for some nonsensical comedy, you should try "Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny". That's Jack Black in his purest form.
Also, in real life, that kid taught Jack how to play the riff! They say in the commentary that he grew up in a hard rock kinda family, that's what he learned to play on so it was actually really hard for him to remember to play so stiff and formally.
I absolutely love this movie. It’s so heartwarming. You should check out a movie with Joan Cusack, Jeff Bridges, and Tim Robbins. A great drama that no one ever reacts to and I keep suggesting it. “Arlington Road”. It also has the most incredible ending.
The thing is Dewey really saved these kids from becoming robots. And he made going to school actually fun because school can be pretty pretentious and boring.
This movie is just the best, but also I saw the musical on Broadway and seeing talented kids play live instruments in the Winter Garden theatre was so freaking amazing I bought a ticket to see it again the very next day. And Alex Brightman brought every bit of the energy and humor and spunk that Jack Black did, I have no idea how he could do that 8 times a week
It's always funny to me how much people hate Sarah Silverman's character. Like yeah she's overbearing and blunt but I feel like almost all of us would be the exact same way if we had a roommate who slept in constantly, had no job, and was months behind on rent. Dewey is a great character and I love him but he really did walk all over Ned in the beginning. And Ned kinda let himself be a doormat. Calling the cops was a really shitty thing to do though. I'll say that.
33:30=In the spirit of rock history, "Edge of Seventeen" is a song from Stevie Nicks' solo career. But, FWM would later incorporate her song into their concerts!
I hope you made yourself a screenshot from the green board diagram of History of Rock that Jack was teaching. Now you can follow it and make up on any cracks in your rock knowledge.

And Alex Brightman brought every bit of the energy and humor and spunk that Jack Black did, I have no idea how he could do that 8 times a week
15:57 Irony is, Miranda Cosgrove can REALLY sing! She had to have a lesson on how to sing badly for that one scene 😂

Im assuming you know Mike White is the guy playing the real Ned Shneebly!!
I think a lot of us would be - but she’s super heightened for the movie
There is a TH-cam clip of theses kids as grown adults playing with Jack Black.
Jack Black's best movies would be the Kung Fu Panda movies, and this one.
33:30=In the spirit of rock history, "Edge of Seventeen" is a song from Stevie Nicks' solo career. But, FWM would later incorporate her song into their concerts!
Watch Be Kind, Rewind. One of Jack Black's best movies
I must!
JB is originally a musician
Makes sense!
I hope you made yourself a screenshot from the green board diagram of History of Rock that Jack was teaching. Now you can follow it and make up on any cracks in your rock knowledge.
It’s such a good diagram!!!!
Summer looks like my neice at that age.
As you like the bass, I would recommend listening to a Mexican rock band called The Warning, the bass is front and center in that band, just check out their TH-cam channel.
Cool!
Gacharic Spin is another all-girl rock group with an extremely talented bassist. Mindset is an awesome song from them.
Congrats, this vid made it on my legendary "Reactions" playlist lol
But srsly great vid, you should do more comedies you have a great laugh :)
One of those movies that is just pure joy.
Totally!!!!!

As someone with kids I know Summer later had her own series called iCarly.
That’s cool!
Omg me and my brother watched this movie so much when it came out wow thank you for this awesome call back to my childhood
